- banderbe, on 10/12/2007, -6/+27What the hell does their over-paid web-developer do all day? From what I can tell, nothing at all!
- Roger, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22I'd like a way to keep track of my comments and replies, instead of having to manually check several pages.
- Tyr7BE, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22Yeah really. Why do people identify with this site so much? It's just a news aggregator. And not just that, but people who talk about how it's just a news aggregator and how everyone should stop losing their ***** at the mention of digg gets dugg right down.
- killerofkiller, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16even better would be something made by digg in adobe apollo
- fkr3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15If your friends wanted to network with you more they'd provide their msn / aol / icq / email etc in their profile. Take a hint.
- fkr3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12He's probably busy trying to keep track of the Top X Things Every Developer Should Know About Some Crap submissions that get frontpaged.
- TroubleInMind, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13I'd like a Swarm screensaver, please.
- notjamt9000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11There were some third party digg widgets, but their creators got Cease and Desist letters: http://480x.com/digg-takes-another-bite (not my site)
- notjamt9000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10There is http://diggcomments.headzoo.com although it is a bit buggy.
- fkr3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Why would he be a millionaire tycoon? This might surprise you but the developer typically isn't the one getting all the cash on a popular site.
- notjamt9000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Here's a digg widget you can use on your website: http://gmodules.com/ig/creator?synd=open&url=http%3A//digg.com/goog/ig.xml
- notjamt9000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8looks like there is one: http://digg.com/software/Digg_Swarm_Screensaver_For_Windows
- Snoz, on 10/12/2007, -11/+19How about digg makes a sidebar GADGET for Vista.
- demea, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8anyone can easily make a widget right now.
- bat-21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Firefox currently has 19 digg-related extensions. Many have the features Eric Odom wants.
- veritech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Better yet give the masses an official digg API, i waited for like a year to create a palm os digg client, and gave up because it just wasn't there. Wheres our api at folks?
- atom14x7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Intermittent 503's. Duggmirror got it though
http://duggmirror.com/design/A_Digg_Request_Digg_Widgets/ - cyrix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I would like that as well. It would be nice to check my comments instead of doing the usual CTRL+F (type in username) then search articles I've commented on.
That would be quite a nice tool to have available to us. I'm being patient though. I honestly feel that more individual user enhancements are on the way in the future, regardless of how long it takes. - ericodom, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Because this person isn't that good.
- Bmke, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4There already is a Digg sidebar gadget, I love it. Found it through microsoft's website.
- AkshayGenius, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3How about digg makes an operating system, a mix of os x and windows, with a li'l bit of digg style. Perfect.
- Dested, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The only way something like this could work is if digg had an api for such things. Without a proper api all you can do is scrape the data.
- antoni, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just want to be able to search articles I've dugg...
- aburd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That would be really really cool.
- Jabertsohn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Everyone and his brother are making Widgets now. I don't like them, they remind me of my apple 'mighty mouse' adoption process. Not Pretty.
- lemieuxster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And if you prefer widgetbox (a little easier): http://www.widgetbox.com/widget/diggfriendsscroller
- fkr3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They got cease and desist letters because they chose to ignore things like "trademarks" and "terms of use". Digg isn't "open source" where you have generally have the right to do what you want, it's a business. The open source slant on this site is by the users, it really has nothing at all to do with digg, who really have nothing at all to do with open source other than using apache and some linux distro on their servers.
- someguy9, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5why doesn't this person make it instead of asking?
- lionslair, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That also works on multi-monitors.
- lemieuxster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://www.lemieuxster.com/digg/scroller/ really ugly (and I mean really) page but the widget works. For some reason digg is server the rss very slowly so if doesn't look like its working just wait a moment.
- blackc2004, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hi. I wrote a digg widget a couple weeks ago that uses the official digg javascript. You can download it here:
http://www.cjbonline.org/index.php/2007/04/01/dugg-widget/ - Jabertsohn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dugg down for 'irregardless'. Two negatives in one word! Think about it.
- pleasenomore33, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I liked the top users list, but now that it has been gone for awhile, I do think that the Digg clique is not as prevalent. One thing I have noticed is a lot of the NOOB digg users are a lot younger (teenagers mainly).

Isn't this AKA Social Bookmarking? - Waldie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've been using a Digg widget for about 4 months now...

Links? I would love to see a Firefox extension that allows me to post a widget on my blog. Can't imagine it being possible though. - mmalone, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I just wrote a wordpress plugin to do this, you can download it at http://blog.vino2vino.com/2007/04/14/wordpress-digg-widget/
- winry, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0grease monkey scripts anyone?
- JoeBaynham, on 10/12/2007, -8/+7When apple comes out with leopard you will be able to easily make a widget.
- banderbe, on 10/12/2007, -8/+7Dugg down for wearing your hat backwards. That's super ghey.
- l0tharnt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I think just a simple one to track your #1 would be all I would want.
- Jabertsohn, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Did I forget my sarcasm tags again?
- ericodom, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I agree, most of them are crap. But widgets like the one provided by MyBlogLog have really brought the blogosphere together in completely new ways.
At least this has been the case with me. Not sure about others. - ericodom, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4Actually, it's my head that's backwards.
- windowsxp550, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0A Digg Widget would be a very bad idea for Digg.
Your article points out that the reason you would want this is "...to better network with friends..." One of Digg's major downfalls has been centered around the notion that certain folks, post articles and then their friends automatically digg their article, irregardless of whether they actually dugg (or even read) the story. What ends up happening is that the stories that get promoted to the front page are always from the same group of people.
I think that when DIgg removed the top users list, that part of the reason was to break away from this type of trend. Today most will agree that the move Digg made (by removing the top users list) was a good move. Now, there are much more diverse range of users who achieve a "front page story". Digg isn't perfect but if they were to Add a widget, like this article suggest, it would be like going back to the way Digg used to be when the top users list was around. - thefish185, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3A digg widget would be pretty sweet
- iainwall, on 10/12/2007, -18/+11Digg news == Front page story
- Jabertsohn, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1He's probably a millionaire tycoon who gambles on the stock market for cheap thrills. Probably.
