- duggtodeath, on 05/28/2008, -0/+39A design is never finished; you just kinda surrender :(
- inactive, on 05/28/2008, -2/+33WTF is it with people using apostrophes when pluralization!?!?!?!? I see it all over now...
- wild, on 05/28/2008, -2/+22Most of those are illustrations, not designs. Just saying...
- michaelpinto, on 05/28/2008, -4/+22I loved the article and added my Digg, but do any of these designers have real paying clients with deadlines?
- SkippyDoorknob, on 05/28/2008, -0/+1223 Pro Designers Opinion's what?
- monospaced, on 05/28/2008, -0/+10I was a little taken back with the "designer" title at first, thinking that they were all illustrators. But when I began exploring their websites, I realized that some of these guys are creating the cutting edge animations and styles for clients like VH1, Nokia etc... Design is getting a wider definition.
- jmkiii, on 05/28/2008, -0/+9No art is ever finished. You just have to make the decision to stop working.
- PabloMac, on 05/28/2008, -0/+7Can an apostrophe own anything?

- Takteek, on 05/28/2008, -3/+8...you've used every photoshop filter.
- cadmiumpaint, on 05/29/2008, -1/+5Lots of photoshop tricks. Very little design happening there.
i'm under_fracking_whelmed. - doctechnical, on 05/28/2008, -2/+6The design is finished when you get paid for it.
- Hangly, on 05/28/2008, -1/+5All but one by my count.
- fxu1989, on 05/28/2008, -1/+5A design is done when you're tired of working.
- Hangly, on 05/28/2008, -0/+4...not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away?
Thank you Sid Meyer and Leonard Nimoy! - coolian12, on 05/29/2008, -0/+4Those are illustrations. not so much design.
still F'ing awesome! - alwaysthere, on 05/28/2008, -0/+4At my office, a design is finished only when you have modified it so many times it has come back around to look almost exactly like it appeared in the first draft.
- asskicker32, on 05/28/2008, -1/+4I think something is finished when it meets my artistic vision...
- dshPls, on 05/28/2008, -0/+3Yeah a couple of these guys are from Depthcore and Evoke art groups.
- serif69, on 05/29/2008, -0/+3I revel in the irony of misusing a gerund.
- KSUdesigner, on 05/28/2008, -0/+3Design has always had a pretty wide definition–that's the beauty of becoming a designer, you have many different options ahead of you.
- wassim2k, on 05/28/2008, -0/+3I guess you haven't heard about the condition of our educational system.
- TheGeek27, on 05/28/2008, -0/+3INAPPROPRIATE APOSTROPHE
- jamesmcv, on 05/29/2008, -0/+2thus rendering the "23 pro designers" title misleading.
- PabloMac, on 05/28/2008, -0/+2Inability to design a proper headline for a communication piece?
- mikebritton, on 05/29/2008, -0/+2Design is complete when your programmer is two days in the hole because you have missed your deadline, and must work 12 hour days to deliver. Enjoy, because you don't deserve it.
. - waxdart, on 05/29/2008, -0/+2Seriously. The article should be called Photoshop Hax0rz answer: When Do We Stop Masturbating?
- RSTaichi, on 05/28/2008, -1/+3Nicely worded.
- HigherLogic, on 05/29/2008, -0/+2Agreed, I was expecting "web" designers.
- serif69, on 05/29/2008, -0/+2A design is finished after all of these products have been used:
http://www.makemylogobiggercream.com/ - hiPpymIck, on 05/29/2008, -0/+2i thought designers consulted the oracle..Oblique Strategies..
http://music.hyperreal.org/artists/brian_eno/obliq ... - maehem, on 05/29/2008, -0/+1My boss once said: "The design isn't finished until you shoot the engineers."

"You have discovered Engineering." - KaivenTor, on 05/28/2008, -0/+1At some point, boredom sets in and I do something else. About a week or two later, I start planning changes and if it really bugs me enough, I'll do a redesign. But usually, I just hit a balance point where I mentally just say "I'm done."
- thredden, on 05/28/2008, -2/+3after like 2 quotes, i quit reading, kept scrolling and looking at the pictures.
dugg for some cool artwork - ligyron, on 05/28/2008, -2/+3I don't think a design is never finished, and this applies to all kinds of "creative" works.
There is always something you want to change or improve upon. The only way most people finish something is by finding inspiration from it and creating something completely new. Sometimes they may still go back to the old project though - Twenty, on 05/29/2008, -0/+1I related it to writing music. I was writing one with a friend and after a while, while trying to simplify it, we started throwing random things in there. It wasn't finished before that, but it definitely wasn't the right path to take. I like the opinion that when you're at the point where everything you add seems to make it worse, the piece is done. Also, it really helps to let it cool down for a while and then come back to it. Applies to music, writing, all sorts of stuff.
- el_taco, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1I don't know how many times I have to yell at my designers to get their ***** done.
- Sketchee, on 05/29/2008, -0/+1Are we talking about art or commercial design? Most of the responses in the article are "oh just wait and then feel it out and then you just know!" Oh yeah, that's really solid advice...
- inactive, on 05/29/2008, -0/+1Its done when the water breaks.
- AtWorkSurfer, on 05/29/2008, -0/+1We just keep getting more and more retarteder.
- PabloMac, on 05/28/2008, -1/+2...and poorly punctuated.
- bryceman111, on 05/29/2008, -0/+1And have at least 1 rainbow gradient with an outer glow...
- SpiroPope, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1Quote a price for a job based on how long you anticipate it will take. Work on it until you run out of paid hours... unless you're a registered charity and are happy to work for nothing. Simple.
- fant0m, on 05/29/2008, -0/+1Yeah, I was expecting the usual list of "THINGS YOU CANT LIVE WITHOUT!!!11" for Photoshop
- Mononuclear, on 05/28/2008, -5/+5They need to redesign that website. It looks like the bastard child of web2.0 and a website from the 90's. That starry space background is horrid and the glow on the logo is also bad. You can see where it has been cropped... The little galaxy by the "more tags" has it's own starry background that doesn't match up with the fixed background and you can see the border as you scroll. The last 2 links "designers" and "effects" can barely be read. This website is hideous..
- jgross68, on 05/28/2008, -1/+1When the project manager says so. OHHH, YEEAAAHHHH!!!! *drops PM's Elbow on creative director*
- agitpropre, on 05/29/2008, -0/+0For most of these, the design appears to be done when it is obscured by clutter...athough the Tron rip-off was, well, sort of interesting...
- PabloMac, on 05/29/2008, -1/+1Roll's?
