- angusm, on 11/14/2007, -5/+51Wow! This is the greatest list of design resources since the last great list of design resources! Please, make more lists of top 100 web design resources! I just can't get enough of them! If I had my way, Digg would be nothing but lists of "100 top web design resources", "2857 websites every designer should see", "437 essential webdesign resources no developer should be without" ...
For bonus points, your "666 web design resources that Satan doesn't want you to know about" page should be hosted on some Wordpress-powered blog that goes ***** up when the Digg effect kicks in. Because really, the only thing I like more than another 'same-old same-old' compilation of links is looking at Wordpress "I'm sorry, our database server just melted" error pages. I can't get enough of that *****.
Bitter much, moi? - Grimdotdotdot, on 11/14/2007, -5/+42If you need 99 resources to design a website, then you shouldn't be designing websites.
- chrisrowe, on 11/14/2007, -5/+39#100 A decent host.
#101 Another platform other than WordPress. - 0xFEEDFACE, on 11/14/2007, -3/+18Resource #1: Good hosting.
Resource #2: WP-Cache - zuul86, on 11/14/2007, -2/+17I thought Art Vandelay was and importer/exporter.
- sockpuppets, on 11/14/2007, -3/+17You must be new here.
- harvested, on 11/14/2007, -2/+15DB error here.. Mirror?
- antdude, on 11/14/2007, -2/+15Heh, I got ap php error:
php
/* Short and sweet */
define('WP_USE_THEMES', true);
require('./wp-blog-header.php'); - Intramin, on 11/14/2007, -1/+14http://www.vandelaydesign.com.nyud.net:8080/blog/d ...
- ajlozier, on 11/14/2007, -1/+14we have passed the point of the absurd here. using reflections, badges, and gummy bear style icons does not make you "cutting edge." adhering to, and extending web standards and innovative web technology is the "Web 2.0" i can get behind. the whole point of advancing web technology is to release human creativity, not funnel it into a certain design style that is now totally cliche. anyone remember css zen garden? to me those designs are far more "Web 2.0" than the most gummy, shiny, pin-striped "beta" site out there. actually, i'm just going to stop using the term Web 2.0 altogether. i'm getting nauseous.
- ghettodev, on 11/14/2007, -2/+12you mean like this?
// ** MySQL settings ** //
define('DB_NAME', 'marc2242_ixxxxxxr'); // The name of the database
define('DB_USER', 'marc2242_ixxxxxr'); // Your MySQL username
define('DB_PASSWORD', 'xxxxxxxxxxxxx'); // ...and password - toxicityj, on 11/14/2007, -0/+9design for web 2.0...so the entire internet can look the same...
- Goobernutz, on 11/14/2007, -2/+11I'd rather see 198 top sources for Web 1.0 design. You know, various ways to use the blink and marquee tags. Using animated gif's as a background wallpaper. That sort of thing.
- neoknight, on 11/14/2007, -1/+10I'm doing Web 3.0 design now, call me when someone compiles a list for that.
- jprez, on 11/14/2007, -2/+10what is this .. "web 2.0" you speak of?
- BTMPL, on 11/14/2007, -4/+12Ooops? ;-)
// ** MySQL settings ** //
define('DB_NAME', 'marc2242_i293wor'); // The name of the database
define('DB_USER', 'marc2242_i293wor'); // Your MySQL username
define('DB_HOST', 'localhost'); // 99% chance you won't need to change this value
define('DB_CHARSET', 'utf8');
define('DB_COLLATE', '');
define('WP_CACHE', true);
// You can have multiple installations in one database if you give each a unique prefix
$table_prefix = 'wp_'; // Only numbers, letters, and underscores please!
// Change this to localize WordPress. A corresponding MO file for the
// chosen language must be installed to wp-content/languages.
// For example, install de.mo to wp-content/languages and set WPLANG to 'de'
// to enable German language support.
define ('WPLANG', '');
/* That's all, stop editing! Happy blogging. */
define('ABSPATH', dirname(__FILE__).'/');
require_once(ABSPATH.'wp-settings.php'); - .Steven, on 11/14/2007, -3/+11mv 99_Top_Resources_for_Web_2_0_Design /dev/null
- ckdvt, on 11/14/2007, -1/+9He's strictly concentrating on the exporting now.
- Nuphor, on 11/14/2007, -7/+15***** Wordpress.
- RoboDonut, on 11/14/2007, -11/+18Buried because "Web 2.0" doesn't actually mean anything.
- ChrisLondon, on 11/14/2007, -0/+7If they have the time to make a top 100 list, they obviously aren't making many websites.
My Top 3 web 2.0 Resources List:
1. Learn how to use Photoshop properly.
2. Learn how to use CSS properly.
3. Understand and implement Web Standards. - aaroncampbell, on 11/14/2007, -1/+8Anyone with a little WP knowledge could get that...but it takes an ass to post it.
- fuzzmeister, on 11/14/2007, -1/+7That's really not good if his site is reading out the PHP code. He's lucky that code doesn't have any database passwords in it.
- boveesean2, on 11/14/2007, -3/+9So does everyone have a half ass web 2.0 project they have been thinking of or what?
- kevyn, on 11/14/2007, -1/+6write your name on some paper, draw a star after your name, and add the word beta! inside the star, then stand said paper on a mirror - hey presto.
- aaroncampbell, on 11/14/2007, -0/+5Unfortunately, if you have a little understanding of Wordpress, you CAN get that info. I hope they fix the site soon.
- rivasj, on 11/14/2007, -0/+5I liked the plain old Web 0.05 designs. ASCII art we miss you!
- delhokie, on 11/14/2007, -3/+7Didn't know Art Vandelay had a web design service- thought he was just into importing/exporting...
Google Cache did not catch the blog- but here is the site: http://64.233.169.104/search?q=cache:_1gUnmLetIUJ: ... - sheepster, on 11/14/2007, -0/+4coral is slow but has it if you're lucky: http://www.vandelaydesign.com.nyud.net:8080/blog/d ...
- DemonWasp, on 11/13/2007, -0/+4I concur, in many ways. Make your site standards-compliant - or, if you can or want to use something like YUI (http://developer.yahoo.com/yui/), then you could make it work in all browsers. Just making things rounded, with pastel colours, does NOT make your site worth anything beyond a single glance. Instead, make your page: fast, robust, secure, standards-compliant, accessible and (most importantly) functional. Then you can start talking about making it look cool, though not at the expense of function, speed, etc.
- ghettodev, on 11/14/2007, -1/+5p.s. I'm not a complete dick, I notified them that their code is exposed.
- rcurts, on 11/14/2007, -1/+5Ah these N resources for css / web 2.0 / javascript / dhtml / ajax are so much fun and never redundant! Since June I think I've accumulated over 67,000 resources!!!
- apsivam, on 11/14/2007, -2/+5nice collection.
- affanjam, on 11/14/2007, -0/+3define('DB_PASSWORD', 'just kidding'); // ...and password
- freedomhater, on 11/13/2007, -0/+3"This is the all encompassing list for the latest resources that will help you regurgitate the same handful of photoshop effects over and over again to compensate for your lack of creativity ..."
Fixed
Also, there is no such thing as "Web 2.0" - SleepingOrange, on 11/14/2007, -2/+5that was a waste of time. If you need a "resource" to make buttons, 'badges' and comment styling, you are in the wrong line of work.
Am I the only one that was expecting some ajax and modern javascript resources?
Buried as retarded. Forget lame. - Firehed, on 11/14/2007, -1/+3Heh - funny to see that at the bottom of the page is a guide to picking a good web host.
- hoodmonkey, on 11/13/2007, -2/+4If enough people use the term, said term actually becomes something and that something is in the form of thousands of web developers, including many at Google, Yahoo and Zillow putting the fundamentals of 'web 2.0' to work every single day.
However, George Bush hates black people. :( - jondo85, on 11/13/2007, -0/+2I used to agree with you but because of what hoodmonkey said I just accepted it about 6 months ago
- rhylan, on 11/14/2007, -0/+2off to a flying start there...
- Bridea, on 11/13/2007, -0/+2*****
- automatikman, on 11/14/2007, -0/+2looks like he edited out the password. not a total ass.
- joshuaer, on 11/14/2007, -1/+3damn i only have 2 :(
- benjony, on 11/14/2007, -2/+4LOL! I'm loving the "666 web design resources that Satan doesn't want you to know about". Funny ass post!
- mjaleo, on 11/13/2007, -0/+2Explain to us the "design portion of web 2.0" then.
- rswelling, on 11/13/2007, -0/+2Must have forgot about WP-Cache...let's try to make "Web 2.0" more about making websites function.
- mjaleo, on 11/13/2007, -0/+2... and that's why you're a designer and he's not.
By the way "MeatBiProduct," Helvetica is a print typeface... - ajlozier, on 11/13/2007, -0/+2i definitely get the design portion of web2.0. to me, it is the people that think it means pinstripes and reflection and mandatory rounded corners that do not. the design style that has become cliche first came into being as a way to demonstrate what was "possible" due to the evolution of web technology. designers need not work within the limits of either having a boring, blocky layout that loads fast and uses tags properly, or having a fancy looking site that is built entirely in tables and bypasses the technological limits that were there for a reason.
css zen garden is "old news" in the sense of time only, but the lessons are still relevant. "[css zen garden] had little to do with web 2.0 other than flashy graphics, semantic markup and good use of the helvetica font" are you kidding me? what does any of that have to do with web 2.0? by flashy graphics, do you mean good artwork, created by real artists? to me, that was the point. that web design could be on the same level as all other types of design--truly artistic, and aesthetically pleasing on the exterior as well as "under the hood." - speerross, on 11/13/2007, -0/+2Can we have like top 10 lists or something instead of these top 99 or top 100, the point of a list is to cut down the available resources to a small amount
- colouredCoder, on 11/14/2007, -0/+1I like the way you think.
