7 (More!) Unusually Geeky Approaches to Graffitti (+PICS)
weburbanist.com — What qualifies something as geek graffiti? In some cases it is the content but in many instances it is the methods employed in its creation. Here are seven more geek graffiti projects that comment on and employ tools of the digital age to reinterpret traditional street art approaches or convey contemporary messages via new media.

- hoodmonkey, on 02/18/2008, -4/+11ascii graffiti ... classic! but that bottom virtual reality vid is just badass
- gyurka, on 02/18/2008, -8/+2Great.
http://www.space-invaders.com/index2.html is also quite cool - dcmusicfusion, on 02/18/2008, -6/+1the two graffiti videos are siiiick, especially the one on the bottom...
- rudlavibizon, on 02/18/2008, -4/+0Have you noticed it runs on Ubuntu. :) Well it doesn't really say on the screen of the laptop, but the brown window theme is a givaway.
- cdahlkvist, on 02/18/2008, -0/+2That must mean the Zune runs on Ubuntu too since you know....it's brown.
Looked like a Mac setup to me.- rudlavibizon, on 02/18/2008, -0/+0Nope, it looks like it is Ubuntu, of course it could be some other Linux or BSD distro running gnome with the Ubuntu theme: http://img107.imageshack.us/img107/4561/screenshot ...
Remember, not everything that shines is a Mac :P- cdahlkvist, on 02/19/2008, -0/+1Not everything that is "cutting edge" runs on Ubuntu.
- rudlavibizon, on 02/18/2008, -1/+0Ooops, a 404.. . :(

- z28com, on 02/18/2008, -10/+2Man, that ***** is dope. I love the 0Day ASCII graphic. Lots of great warez put out by those people. You down with it?
- itsgotyou, on 02/18/2008, -1/+31next thing you know we'll have a gang of these geeks running around, they'll call themselves the 'geek squad' or something to that effect.
- mllawso, on 02/18/2008, -1/+0Represent.
/With symbolic glyphs.
- mllawso, on 02/18/2008, -1/+0Represent.
- sleepyjjk, on 02/18/2008, -6/+1I love the Link and one.
- kmc127, on 02/18/2008, -8/+1I don't get the name tag....
- Zipko, on 02/18/2008, -1/+2It's a motion sensor and speaker. It says your name when someone walks up to you.
- deviouskoopa, on 02/18/2008, -1/+2Another good similar collection:

(check out Hektor and the printball one) - harpdog, on 02/18/2008, -6/+19Tagging is done by vandals and destroys most cities. Most Taggers in London are not artists by anymeans they just spray things like 'cosa' tox2008' with no pictures or colour. Tox2008 is the biggest prick in the world and obviously a backward native from zulu land.
- cathpah, on 02/18/2008, -2/+17there are many styles of graffiti. some people just throw their name up on someone elses piece (bombing) to try and show their everpresence and lack of respect for the original artist....these people are idiots.
real graffiti artists are amazing. they make the mundane and ugly into beauty. lets not group them all together.- cdahlkvist, on 02/18/2008, -5/+5"they make the mundane and ugly into beauty. lets not group them all together"
You forget to add "on other people's property". Therefore, by your own reasoning (see your explanation of bombing) they lack respect.
See, they don't own most of the buildings and rail cars and bus stops and signs they are supposedly making "beautiful".- fancyj, on 02/18/2008, -2/+4Not necessarily true. There are legal walls around.
- EggNogIceCream, on 02/18/2008, -3/+1Also if you want to learn more about graffiti from different perspectives I recommend this documentary, Infamy. http://pop.youtube.com/watch?v=F9v2UgHUHY4
- fancyj, on 02/19/2008, -1/+1Bomb the Suburbs is a pretty good book about graffiti, hip-hop, and other "urban" philosophies.
- EggNogIceCream, on 02/18/2008, -1/+3Yeah most graff artist dont tag places like cars houses churches most murals and this is common sense.
- cdahlkvist, on 02/18/2008, -5/+5"they make the mundane and ugly into beauty. lets not group them all together"
- meteorix, on 02/18/2008, -2/+1I agree with you
- explodingzebras, on 02/18/2008, -1/+1"Tox2008 is the biggest prick in the world and obviously a backward native from zulu land."
Could we avoid rascist comments please
- cathpah, on 02/18/2008, -2/+17there are many styles of graffiti. some people just throw their name up on someone elses piece (bombing) to try and show their everpresence and lack of respect for the original artist....these people are idiots.
- thedinomeister, on 02/18/2008, -1/+4useless information:
Graffiti comes from the Greek word "graffito" meaning "written." Graffiti dates back to Ancient Greece more than 2,500 years ago and can also be found in Ancient Roman ruins including the more famous ones of Pompeii.- D3koy, on 02/18/2008, -0/+3If I'm not mistaken, one of the first graffiti artists did it as a message to the Romans....something to the effect of "Romans go home"
- asa400, on 02/19/2008, -1/+1What's this, then? "Romanes eunt domus"? People called Romans, they go, the house? Conjugate the verb! Write it out a hundred times, and if it's not done by sunrise I'll cut your balls off...
