- CyberSteve, on 10/12/2007, -1/+71Hope you like the image.
For the record, it's a touch under 720 Megapixels (approx 40,000 x 18,000).
It is made up of about 170 images, taken with a Canon 10D and a Canon
100-400L lens.
Almost all of the photos were taken at 400mm, with a few of the "fill" shots
(eg, the sky in the top left corner) taken at around 200mm.
All photos are at ISO 200, 6 seconds, f/6.7 (Manual mode)
The large buildings (ie, all of the office buildings) are at least 1200
metres (1300 yards) away from the camera! The Harbour Bridge Pylon is
about half that distance away.
The Zoomify image is made up of 14,729 jpg files, each around 5-15kb,
which are demand-loaded. Good thing too, given that the original image is a
1.3Gb Photoshop file!

- UncommonSense, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Just a few steps away from some high-quality voyeurism...
- Quarks, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16Guys, mirroring doesn't work.
The actual jpg files (couple of thousand) are on his server.
You're only mirroring the front-end. - WhyMakeMeReg, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14http://www.gigapxl.org/
- al28p, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11gigapixel pictures much better, http://www.gigapxl.org/gallery-Parasail.htm [1920 MP]
- Autoclave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10There are some photostitching programs that do an amazing job of blending multiple images together
Here is the tutorial that I used to make some of them:
http://www.aguntherphotography.com/projects/highresimg.htm - Cosmosis, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12I don't think this is going to be mirrorable. I'm guessing that the flash file has embedded links to the jpg files behind the application, as suggsted in the comments of the HTML of the site:
"The Zoomify image is made up of 14,729 jpg files, each around 5-15kb,
which are demand-loaded. Good thing too, given that the original image is a
1.3Gb Photoshop file!" - ZaNkY, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9oncebanned, are you looking to be twicebanned?
LOL - ericdfields, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6from http://clarkvision.com/imagedetail/eye-resolution.html
Based on the above data for the resolution of the human eye, let's try a "small" example first. Consider a view in front of you that is 90 degrees by 90 degrees, like looking through an open window at a scene. The number of pixels would be
90 degrees * 60 arc-minutes/degree * 1/0.3 * 90 * 60 * 1/0.3 = 324,000,000 pixels (324 megapixels).
At any one moment, you actually do not perceive that many pixels, but your eye moves around the scene to see all the detail you want. But the human eye really sees a larger field of view, close to 180 degrees. Let's be conservative and use 120 degrees for the field of view. Then we would see
120 * 120 * 60 * 60 / (0.3 * 0.3) = 576 megapixels.
The full angle of human vision would require even more megapixels. This kind of image detail requires A large format camera to record. - JDOG, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11Digg effect...
Gotta love 715 megapixels! - native, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It looks like a cruise ship terminal.
