- fuzzboxer, on 10/11/2007, -7/+30Smashing Magazine is becoming like A List Apart. Every post is just so good it has to be dugg. Do yourself a favor and just add the RSS Feed.
- dshPls, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11I cry for Helvetica.
- speerross, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9Yeah RSS is a good idea, continuously good and regular content. I look forward to the next Smashing Magazine post.
Is it just me, or have recent A List Aparts not reached front page? - JCSaint, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8I look forward to this page finally loading....
- Cirrius, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10This could also be titled "60 elegant designs that all look the same"
or
"Screw the target market, designs made for designers to love" - bacon_skoda, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4i hate the fat headers. have to scroll down to get to content on every page that has the fat headers.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5We require more minerals.
- Jpardue, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3whats web 2.0?
- dasilva333, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4i love it when this website makes it on digg, its fun just browsing through some really pretty websites, amazing what ppl can do with a lil creativity and web 2.0 tools
- thailand1972, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Check out their first example:-

Click on the navigation at the top. Talk about confusing.
Aaahh, web 2.0-gradiant-backdrop-minimalist-fat-header-crapola that wows the style-over-substance 'designers'.
Meanwhile, real people need usability. - Kugo, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Isn't there a way to force spell checking on headlines? Or disallow people who can't freaking spell?
- spargett, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I think these sites are very user friendly. They are stylish without being gaudy, which was the case with the last trend of pixel font flash load everything crap.
- TyphoidTimmy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3I dunno....fast loads, easy on the eyes, graphically minimalist to ease in navigation. Really, I would not mind a more simplified form thats gets the point across without being blasted by 32 different ads for separate products that I have no interest in.
Besides, a good many of those in the list are blogger types sites where you don't need that much crap jammed in to divert you from the point.
They do need to get away from the 'beigy lime green' color that seems to be the norm, though..... - tize, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1um are the first 3 posts spam? Seems like an advertisement to me...
- noirhawk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I agree, smashing magazine is kick'n cookies!
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1For all you Kevin Rose lovers, this article contains this in the list
http://www.futureofwebapps.com/
which has Speaker Presentations & MP3s Podcast RSS Feed of Kevin Rose - wild, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Ewe. its all web 2.0 and the same basic layout. (nav across top and a single column of content down the middle).
Welcome to the c-frame, circa 1998. - silverbullet126, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1In reality I think that closing the digital divide is great, but I think most kids would rather ~$100 in food and shelter than $100 piece of plastic that requires $1000's more in investments just so they can have internet. $.30 a kid is great low cost, but I really don't see laptops a "necessity" for kids that have more important things to worry about. Lastly if governments can buy in the end 2 billion kids $100 laptops .. I’m sure they can build them all houses and feed them all too.
- wild, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1""Screw the target market, designs made for designers to love""
No, designs made for programmers to love. Designers know better than to do most of that crap. - TwistedHope, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Is it just me or does their first example on the list absolutely suck?
http://www.tomas-design.com/about.html
If the numbers on that list are in order from best to worst, that site has no business being listed #1... That design is nowhere near 'elegant.' - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Oh, jeez. Web page designs. I was hoping it would have been something more substantial... like industrial designs.
- wiz0rian, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1with web.20 tools.. wtf
- nekitip, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1#46
- peachpeach, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I find it odd that the actual article spelled "appealing" incorrectly
- aaarrrgh, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2Fantastic list.
As someone who has done his fair share of web design, everything from crappy table based *****, to high-tech css-overloaded web 2.0 wonders of doom, it is always very nice to see what others have done, if just for inspiration.
I am quite fond of this one, even if uses quite a few colours: http://www.playgroundblues.com/ - it's just very appealing to my eyes, for some reason. - abeja, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Ja sam ga napravila (#46), iz Rijeke sam/smo. :-)
- masskurec, on 03/01/2009, -0/+0best windows tricks
http://xptweak.net - johnburk, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3I wonder of the top sites are prepared for a digg effect ;)
Some are great, others are nice. How about:
http://www.sojasite.nl and http://www.modeblog.nl - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0odakle si?
- praveens, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1finally a comment on the spelling!
- lorainee, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2@theredbicycle: well, why don't you do it? Honestly, I don't have 20 hours to browse through 60 css galleries and select 60 decent designs. Do you?
I am just glad someone else is doing it. Therefore - DUGG! - Anamith, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Naw, ALA has actual content, Smashing Magazine just aggregates stuff.
- theredbicycle, on 10/11/2007, -7/+7@fuzzboxer
While many of smashing's articles are actually worthwhile, this one is just lazy and a waste. Any joe can go to a css gallery like webcreme.com or cssmania.com and create this list. I can't believe this made the front page... If they had at least elaborated on *why* these were good, it would probably be front page worthy. Like I said, you can find every single one of those sites in a css gallery already, and many of those sites are pretty recent additions to the two I mentioned above. Go figure... - silverchrysalis, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1#60 looks vaguely like one of the cartoon clips on monty python.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3more like,

Check out the huge list of 8600 designs at http://www.screenalicio.us for more design inspiration. - MotiveJustin, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Looks like their site couldn't handle the traffic, I can't get the link to load!
- newstart, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Lol yea, and a tutor too!
- ilikefun, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1its too bad that this article about appealling designs looked like crap. i got about 2 or 3 and couldn't stand reading anymore
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0which one?
- airquotes, on 10/11/2007, -2/+0At first I read the title as elegant and virtually appauling designs.. I thought this ought to be confusing.
- Drull, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2Edit: Duggmirror didn't catch it, but coral cache did.
