- lowtolerance, on 01/08/2009, -0/+26Ordinarily I would have skipped this link, as most of the 3d fractals I've seen all look alike. Some of these, however, are stunningly gorgeous. I am going to have to play with apophysis and probably pull my hair out in frustration.
- okayokayokay, on 01/08/2009, -2/+11Dr. Sanjay Gupta warns that fractals can be just as bad for your health as marijuana.
- Jeepinator, on 01/08/2009, -0/+8Apophysis isn't hard to do anything in necessarily. It is hard to get it to do what you want, but just messing with it you can create some cool looking stuff. I still haven't figured out how to do these kinds of fractals though. These actually take skill.
- lowtolerance, on 01/08/2009, -0/+6that it is
- blacktriangle, on 01/08/2009, -0/+6For Linux users, you can try Fyre. It behaves much like Apophysis.
- Mental24, on 01/08/2009, -0/+5What are you talking about? I'm not hotlinking at all.
I used a smaller low res picture to display on the site and every image points to the source and author of the original picture in DeviantArt. By the way, I host the images on my server, (i have a separate server where i host my images) so I'm not hotlinking from DeviantArt at all, just to clear, but I'm linking the images from my own server, which I pay for.
If this is not what you meant, please explain to me what the problem really is and I'll correct whatever needs correction.
Thanks. - the2989, on 01/08/2009, -0/+4Some of those are freakin awesome. Now I kinda want to trip acid in outer space.
- laofmoonster, on 01/08/2009, -0/+3My icon was made in apophysis =)
- paranoiabacon, on 01/08/2009, -0/+3What, no love for chaoscope?
Actually, the stuff I can make in that is nowhere near as beautiful as the products of apophysis, which I never really got into. Something tells me I should. - NihilFist, on 01/08/2009, -0/+3I tried Apophysis once... I failed at doing anything cool with it. Cool bit of software though.
- sodade, on 01/09/2009, -0/+3Brings back memories of hundreds of hours spent playing with fractint in the early 90s. I was so psyched to upgrade from a 286 to a 486.
- vulpescry, on 01/08/2009, -0/+3I love using the random button. But I don't know how to control the outputs.... :(
- cl2yp71c, on 01/08/2009, -0/+2Somebody needs to make an intelligible tutorial.
- inactive, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2I am one of the artists you messaged... I have no complaints. The images link back to my dev art page so I'm okay with it.
- lowtolerance, on 01/08/2009, -0/+2there is also a java version of Apophysis, and the windows version runs just fine under WINE

Very cool video of fractals made with apophysis. - bitbytebit, on 01/09/2009, -0/+1fractint! nice
- NotAChickenHawk, on 01/08/2009, -0/+1Someone needs to publish a tutorial for this program. I played around with it for a few days several months back, and couldn't get results anywhere near this stuff.
- Rhymenoceros, on 01/08/2009, -0/+1is there anything for mac that is as good?
- TedTschopp, on 01/08/2009, -0/+1Can you explain why those pictures are not fractals?
- kingUssop, on 01/08/2009, -0/+1That blog isn't loading worth a damn. Here's a similar feature on deviantart:
http://news.deviantart.com/article/60789/ - 11oops, on 01/08/2009, -0/+1Flying toasters?
- BetaRaySam, on 01/08/2009, -0/+1All of them are really cool but when I want to see a fractal I want the sensation of never ending space and repetition. The best one in my opinion at being original and having that trippy repetition was the fleur de whatever it was..
- stronglikedan, on 01/08/2009, -0/+1From Wikipedia: "A fractal is generally "a rough or fragmented geometric shape that can be split into parts, each of which is (at least approximately) a reduced-size copy of the whole,"[1] a property called self-similarity."
Maybe I cannot see it from the pictures, but when I zoom in, I don't see a reduced copy of the whole. Although djekz brings up a good point in that maybe 3D fractals are defined differently. - stronglikedan, on 01/08/2009, -1/+2To all digging him down, he is correct. What he is implying is that the pictures represented in the link are not fractals in any sense of the word; a point on which he is also correct.
- quantumd, on 01/08/2009, -0/+1Look at the Tuts at deviantArt.
- Totz83, on 01/08/2009, -5/+6This is a fractal -

- JagPop, on 04/14/2009, -0/+1ditto
- Totz83, on 01/08/2009, -0/+1Here's a nice demo of what a fractal actually is, it's called a Mandelbrot Set -
http://www.h-schmidt.net/MandelApplet/mandelapplet ...
Just hit "GO" at the bottom of the page. - jason210, on 01/08/2009, -1/+1is fying toasters still an option?
- 3DElizabeth, on 01/09/2009, -0/+0These are beautiful, thanks for sharing!
- de5933, on 01/08/2009, -0/+0There is a screensaver called Electric Sheep that uses this very program to display animated fractals. It is very cool.
http://www.electricsheep.org/ - epadafunk, on 01/08/2009, -1/+1oh do you have electric sheep?
- GelfTheElf, on 01/08/2009, -0/+0When I see these, I feel like I'm seeing what the "Q" sees when they look at the universe. (or some other universally omnipotent alien race).
- Theli, on 01/08/2009, -1/+1Here's a few of mine:

http://imdfx.com/joomla/index.php?option=com_phoca ... - Topher06, on 01/08/2009, -1/+1dugg down for linking to a wiki on apophysis instead of the actual website.
- AndrewDB, on 01/08/2009, -2/+2I just noted every single artist on deviantart that this page features to let them know that this page is using their artwork without permission.
He's also hot linking to deviantArt. :| - dortcorm, on 01/30/2009, -0/+0Amazing!
http://www.antidote.com.sg - BobSlefty, on 01/09/2009, -0/+0How to get Apophysis running on your (intel) Mac...
http://hebejebelus.deviantart.com/art/ApoMac-75013 ... - djekz, on 01/08/2009, -1/+1They are both fractals, just that the ones in this article are rendered as objects in three dimensions. The other one is a two dimensional fractal
- bitbytebit, on 01/09/2009, -1/+1hmm you are not hosting the images on your server, 2nd image on your page links to http://parrotdolphin.deviantart.com/art/Flower-Thi ...
- masterc, on 01/08/2009, -1/+1Redundant description is redundant.

Nearly as good as my screensaver.
Zzzz
