This post proves that the definition of "orange websites" is up for debate... - toasty, on 10/12/2007, -5/+20orange you glad there's a list like this?
- adc86, on 10/12/2007, -8/+20I'm so sick of people's "yawn" comments on every freakin' web related story. *Hating more art does not make you a better critic*

- Spr0k3t, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Clear is the new black
- camerony, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10mmm.. orange!
- keepclear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Yep, love the layout and color.
- reevolutn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9with all that orange atleast you dont need to be worried about getting scurvy
- asforme, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Dugg for being on one page.
- antonioevans, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10We actually run one of the featured pages http://www.FriendsEAT.com and when we were working with our design team we kept hitting into the question "What color makes you hungry?" We looked at plenty of other community websites and kept telling ourselves, these maybe cool sites but they don't have the feeling of food. They used pictures not layout to give their feeling. The industry calls them food porn but I am fan of slick clean css driven design. Sites that stand on their own without having to get high gloss istockphotos on their homepage. We are confident our design gives a good vibe and our recent beta launch , we are doing good things for a "mom and pop website". Come visit us.
- idonthack, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8stop it
it's not funny
please stop - dfunct, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4My website is orange, can I join the bandwagon? http://geekmeetsgirl.net
- Mandeep, on 10/12/2007, -7/+10People actually care about the color of websites?!?!
- VioletArrows, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4You mean you're not sick of 90% of the internet being black, white, and/or blue? I know I sure am.
- FatalTragedy316, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I was shocked to see a "wannaburger" but no "whataburger" :(
http://www.whataburger.com/ - jrsims, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Designers of the Ubuntu website and default theme - take note! :)
- CraigJ, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5is orange the new black?
- burke, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4umm, ok.
- jimcarrey363, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Dugg because this story isn't about politics or that damn HD-DVD code...
Thank you poster. - burke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Error: Missing adjective. Question aborted.
- brianfgonzalez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3nice sites!... I use friendseat and i always enjoyed that design.
- smackhero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2that design looks like crap. who the hell would look at that for inspiration? these are supposed to be good designs that show how an orange layout can be made to be aesthetically pleasing, not tacky and unprofessional.
and that image map on the homepage... whoever made this site deserves to be fired. the web designer is clearly incompetent. - aussieaubs, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4but its not summer - its heading into winter....
- smackhero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2the main 3d image that is the focus of the page is also orange. and this page is clearly for web/graphic designers. the point of that particular list is to demonstrate different orange-based color schemes. and from a graphic design perspective, all those designs are definitely orange-centered. brown is a shade of orange with more value, and in some cases less saturation. in that color scheme and layout design, your eyes are drawn towards the brighter orange areas, and the brown (or dark orange) is a secondary color used in the negative space--a very effective use of analogous colors. the entire page doesn't have to be orange for it to be a good orange-based layout. the first layout is primarily white, but it's still based on an orange-ish color scheme--what chromatic value a design is centered around isn't determined by the background color or what color takes up the biggest portion of the drawing plane.
most layout designs use white or black for the negative space in their background, but their color schemes are usually centered around a different primary color. putting orange on a brown background holds the design together quite well as you retain the same hue throughout the entire page and stick to analogous colors. adjusting saturation and value is a easy and very common way of creating a fluent/harmonious color scheme centered around a color that is difficult to match with other colors. orange is one such color, and the layouts showcased show how such colors can be paired up with analogous hues or shades with different value/saturation.
these layouts don't really use any complementary colors or other contrasting chromas so your complaint just demonstrates that this page isn't really made for you. if you want to be pedantic about something, maybe do so in a field you're actually familiar with where you can contribute to a meaningful discussion, but you demonstrate little understand of graphic design. if you're indeed a graphic/web designer then you might want to look into some basic color theory to gain a better understanding of how human perception interprets a color space, which is useful for analyzing the use of colors in a particular design. - frankiejr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ha! That's pretty funny. I actually helped Stellio's developer at the time get that site up and running. Funny to randomly come across something you worked on...
- smackhero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i heard that red yellow and green were chosen for the blimpie's logo because they elicit hunger.
btw, slick site. i like the design. - smackhero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1why wouldn't people care? that site is obviously designed for graphic/web designers (the digg title might be a hint). so of course analyzing the use of different color schemes is of interest. if you're a web designer and you didn't know that color scheme is one of the most crucial elements of a good design, then you should probably go into a different profession.
- OpticalLiam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Was he tasty?

My high schools home page. Doesn't look to bad and it's orange too. - michellepeet, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I think this site for this antiperspirant product that I use is really well designed. It's for excessive sweating sufferers, http://www.sweating-treatment.com Simple, clean and right to the point, no sweat.
- dreadlock7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://www.knottyboy.com
This site has been orange before it was cool. - smackhero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1dude, customize.org's layout isn't that great. and i just took a look at isonews and their design is horrible. the designs listed on this page are actually good.
- michellepeet, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I like this site, it's for an excessive sweating antiperspirant http://www.sweating-treatment.com and it's just simple and clean, no sweat, nothing too fancy, no overly busy, strait to the point.
- Bklynadam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1am I colorblind or is this site blue?
- burke, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I... don't... oh right. Hemispheres.
- AstralSin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2some of these are more impressive than others but there are some really eye opening websites that use orange very effectively. very nice work by those designers
- keepclear, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Spot on, great site.

I think the post autor should see the current ubuntu's website theme: is light and profesional. The designers of the ubuntu website have nothing to learn from this. - DariusMonsef, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1A resource of more orange (and every other) colored websites: http://www.designmeltdown.com/chapters/Orange/Part3.aspx
- CarolynMittens, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2the portfolio section makes me dizzy :(

- aauthor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great site - easy to use, lots of jobs, and nice looking, too!! Better than any of the national boards!!
- 84bliss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ours is orange and is good enough to be on that list for sure... http://www.jobburner.com
- dstewart1017, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have a small website that was designed with orange as the primary color. I have been pretty nervous about the color scheme and have thought about changing it several times. ( www.fitnovo.com ) After looking at these sites, I have a more confidence that orange can work - even if my site isn't quite there yet.
Thanks! - 35chililights, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1wanna burger
pfff, rip off.
i couldnt find an established date for wanna burger, but whataburger was founded in 1950. -
