- RegularJohn, on 10/06/2008, -2/+7Just saw a great presentation by Andrew Shorten of Adobe thursday at Romania's Webstock Conference, about Air and some applications. The framework is indeed extremely powerful!
- jackcrack7, on 10/06/2008, -0/+5It's no different than any application that you install on your computer. I'm not aware of any desktop application programming language that can't access to your file system.
- tikal2k, on 10/06/2008, -0/+4Yes, that is actually why I joined Digg in the first place
- Barackalypse, on 10/06/2008, -0/+4Me too, usually by the time I arrive the server hosting them is already down. =)
- chaoswings, on 10/06/2008, -1/+5It's funny when a website about web design has a database error and goes down. I guess they don't practice what they preach?
- Marvnation, on 10/06/2008, -1/+49min and it goes down.. figures.

- tempusrob, on 10/06/2008, -0/+2Yeah, shame on them for not being prepared for a slew of Diggers they probably weren't even expecting.
- stephenjames716, on 10/06/2008, -0/+2server fail
- PopcornDave, on 10/06/2008, -0/+2Nope, it's just running on an AIR web server.
/s - dsingletary911, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1Too bad most sites can't handle the Digg effect...
- RobotBuddha, on 10/06/2008, -0/+1I just wish it could access growl.
- rossbren, on 10/08/2008, -0/+1My fav on the list is FEAT - Freelancer's Estimation Assistance Tool.
- MariusStuparu, on 10/08/2008, -0/+1Beautiful! The Google Analytics tool is a bliss!

- inactive, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1Cloud computing is for backups and data sharing. I'll keep my apps on my workstation tyvm.
- JohnKappa, on 10/25/2008, -1/+2I imagine this would be one killer list. Can't wait to see it...
- azazel00, on 10/06/2008, -0/+1Scalability doesn't have a whole lot to do with web design.
- azazel00, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1I'm serious. If your a one-man shop, then yes, you should take those into account. But most of them are not in the scope of the web design, they a a matter of development and infrastructure. That's why most websites separate their web designers from their developers. Different scopes and different areas of expertise.
- webresources, on 10/06/2008, -3/+3The website is hosted on a dedicated server at Softlayer just to prevent the digg effect but seems like it is more than I imagined..
- joelfernandes19, on 10/09/2008, -0/+0Great post!
- pbhj, on 10/07/2008, -2/+2azazel00, are you kidding? Cacheability (caching dynamic pages, setting headers correctly), database and query design, proper choice of image type, design tweaks to improve compression, remove excess requests, compacting CSS and JS. Just like a print designer will consider paper sizes, co-printing, half-toning to get the best value out of a run.
I'm a pretty small time web designer (with a little PHP/JS "programming" in there) but this is pretty much a minimum consideration.
