- ar0ne, on 05/01/2009, -1/+19The soft focus effect makes me want to vomit.
- kingtobo, on 05/02/2009, -2/+10Most of these really don't look that great.
- BenTheTank, on 05/02/2009, -3/+10Very useful, thanks for submitting.
But I have to ask this question: Why does Photoshop get so much love and attention on Digg, i.e. tutorials, while AutoCAD is completely ignored? Digg has so many of us Engineer/Drafter types, but no cool CAD tutorials! - jannefoo, on 05/02/2009, -0/+6All these effects suck.
- Jeepy, on 05/02/2009, -1/+6I can't believe they left out Donnie.

Why is it whenever I click on these it's a bunch of useless photomanipulation ***** that makes your $500 camera's photos look like they were taken with a $10 toy camera? Every single one of these "after" photos look worse than the damn original other than maybe high-pass and color correction.
I guess that if used correctly a few of the things from this tutorial might end up working decently, but I'm just damn sick of people not worrying about what goes INTO photoshop before they process the hell out it because "hey, we can HDR it and people will love it no matter the composition and exposure!" - jggube, on 05/01/2009, -1/+6Then you should stay away from the hard focus effect - that will really make you vomit.
- coheedcollapse, on 05/02/2009, -1/+5A large chunk of these make me want to vomit. Seriously. This is a list of typical tools that people who suck at photography use to make their stuff look better to other people with no idea what they're doing. Take the damn photo right the first time, don't make it all glowy and fake dammit.
I dunno. I guess I've always liked photography because it captures the reality of any given situation. Making giant light rays fly through the background and putting tints and grunge filters on photos just screw them up. - ch28kid, on 05/02/2009, -0/+4I totally agree.
I use Autodesk Maya a lot but there is hardly any tutorial for it. The only reason I see why it gets so much attention is because everyone have a priate version of PS. - blacktriangle, on 05/02/2009, -0/+3I just vomited in my mouth...after looking at these terrible effects.
- ngmcs8203, on 05/02/2009, -0/+3Then skip the tutorial and buy Lightroom, where all these techniques can be done with a simple click of downloadable presets.
- Llanowar, on 05/02/2009, -0/+3Great, another photoshop article about how to make your photos look generic.
- GeekNurse, on 05/02/2009, -1/+3Buried for lying about having a girlfriend.
- xCIone, on 05/02/2009, -3/+4Love the high pass filter. great article!!!
- SuburbianMike, on 05/02/2009, -0/+1I love the miniature effect!
- inactive, on 05/02/2009, -0/+1This is definitely a great example of power users on digg. 769 diggs with 32 comments as of right now. Is anyone really reading the article? It's not that great.
Plus, it was submitted by "ThePowerDigger" - coheedcollapse, on 05/02/2009, -0/+1No, I'm not saying, "your art is wrong", I'm saying if you suck at photography and you want to use overused "creative" filters to compensate, you still suck.
- Llanowar, on 05/02/2009, -1/+2She just told me she didn't care so much for the article and begged me to get back in bed.
- solid12345, on 05/02/2009, -2/+3Amateur my ass, you ever looked at any HBO or movie promo posters lately, they are all using HDR effects.

- centran, on 05/02/2009, -1/+2I will have to try that skin one. My current technique is to do the normal curve and the healing/cloning brush clean ups.
Then I duplicate the layer and add a gaussian blur. Then take the blur off by 30-50%. I then take the eraser tool and erase from the blur layer the eyes and lips. Depending on the photo and how I feel I will also usual erase the hair and any distinct lines on the face. Then depending on the background I might erase the blur from there as well or leave it.
That cleans up the skin nicely and to finish it all up I merge the layers back down and then crank up the saturation to a nice looking level(usually around 7-10) - grbruner, on 05/02/2009, -0/+1My rough estimates are about 378 Photoshop tutorials and 153 Photography tutorials reach the front page of digg every year.
This is probably on conservative side. - Dotcommer, on 05/02/2009, -2/+2All of these effects are horrible and AMATEUR. Professional my ass.
- gurudatt143, on 05/01/2009, -2/+2These effects are great.I would like to try them with my nature pictures.
- chrisdirubio, on 05/02/2009, -1/+1Great article, too bad I had all of these effects already bookmarked in a total of 3 articles.... old!
