You probably could use Joomla instead of Wordpress. I run it on a site I run, it works really well. Takes forever (literally, a week or two?) to figure out exactly how Joomla works, but once you do, it is pretty good.

If the CSS in WordPress was designed better, people could make their own themes without the need to fight the urge to gouge their eyes out; which is really what takes the most time when making a new theme.

- billymo, on 08/21/2008, -0/+1Check out CSS-tricks.com. Chris Coyier does some video there on building your own WP site. I don't know if that will help, but I've found his tutorials changed the way I look at the web and how it's built... but I didn't know a whole lot about it going in.

But most Wordpress theme look like blogs. Does anyone know of any good themes that look normal websites? Simple header and nav, or sidebar nav. Or do I have to take apart a theme and build it myself? - MtheoryX, on 08/21/2008, -0/+1It's really not complicated to make a WordPress theme.
In fact, it's not any harder than making an XHTML/CSS website. All you do is copy/paste the php from wordpress into the right places and you're done.
