You probably could use Joomla instead of Wordpress. I run it on a site I run, it works really well. Takes forever (literally, a week or two?) to figure out exactly how Joomla works, but once you do, it is pretty good.

- Herolint, on 08/21/2008, -0/+4More than some cool WordPress theme, I'd like the WordPress developers to make their CSS less todgery. If the CSS in WordPress was designed better, people could make their own themes without the need to fight the urge to gouge their eyes out; which is really what takes the most time when making a new theme.

In fact, it's not any harder than making an XHTML/CSS website. All you do is copy/paste the php from wordpress into the right places and you're done.
There are tons of tut's out there; unfortunately I don't have time at the moment to find them for you, but trust me, they are out there. - billymo, on 08/21/2008, -0/+1Check out CSS-tricks.com. Chris Coyier does some video there on building your own WP site. I don't know if that will help, but I've found his tutorials changed the way I look at the web and how it's built... but I didn't know a whole lot about it going in.
