- 1607 diggs
- digg it
- Crispuk, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14Looks like a nice set
- wiifm69, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1dugg for the atari icon
- nickj6282, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2That's what she said!
OMG, I'm sorry. I couldn't resist.
- Azimuth1, on 10/10/2007, -9/+3http://www.smashingmagazine.com/images/freshicons/flags.png
Ugh, that is not the right way around that the Union Flag goes. That is backwards. Seriously, how hard is it to do a Google search and look it up?- trib4lmaniac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Well, it isn't "backwards," but they have messed up the thick white borders on two of the four quarters.
- Azimuth1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5You're right, I only looked at the top left quadrant.
- meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3http://www.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/geography/unionjack7.html
Wasn't the Union Flag flown upside-down at the olympics once?
- trib4lmaniac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Well, it isn't "backwards," but they have messed up the thick white borders on two of the four quarters.
- crushfan, on 10/10/2007, -8/+3Ha! "Free" - Like anyone would ever pay for them.
- Snakedal337, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13Why are 3 of these "Fresh" sets "iphone" icons. Also they missed oxygen (which is one of the most beautiful sets to come out in a while)
- jsully, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Link to the gorgeousness:
http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Oxy-G?content=64872- mossblaser, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Kind'a ironic that links to gnome-look :D
- Nerevar, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I'm pretty sure he meant the oxygen project for KDE.
- Nerevar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Why did you link to the gnome port and not the actual project's site? http://www.oxygen-icons.org/
- jhuebel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Am I missing something, or is there no download link for the icon set on the project's site?
- tony134340, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I think Oxygen icons look sort of goofy. And is it any wonder: http://www.oxygen-icons.org/?page_id=16
- jsully, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Link to the gorgeousness:
- mstachiw, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2try http://interfacelift.com/icons-mac/
- Kyderdog, on 10/10/2007, -11/+3Very 2002ish Glossy looking icons yuck.
I think the Price is too high. - jackspayed, on 10/10/2007, -2/+24Dugg for CS3 Icons (default icons suck!)
- MiDri, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The CS3 icons are sweet! They keep the same feel of th new adobe designed ones, but add a nice "flare" to them.
- DirtySnachez, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2yer, the whitespace varies sides though - and makes dock layout awkward
- cephelo, on 10/10/2007, -8/+2I can't stand any of those icons. They are far, far overdone for what icons are intended to be: simple, recognizable, usable representations for a given function. Oxygen and Tango are two prime examples of this. The metaphors used by most of the article's icons are terrible, too. Please choose your icons carefully when designing systems! (besides, most of the linked icons don't have a license attached -- no license does not imply public domain!)
- Urusai, on 10/10/2007, -4/+5Icons should be:
1) flat, not glossy;
2) not pretend to have perspective;
3) be high contrast and use simple colors;
4) use colors and shape to distinguish utility;
5) be immediately identifiable from the corner of your eye.
My objection to glossy is actually based on utility, not aesthetics. Gloss emulates light reflections, which in real life distract and obscure. Adding it intentionally is counterproductive.- twe4ked, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2"Adding it intentionally is counterproductive." hahah, i lol'ed
- smackhero, on 10/10/2007, -4/+4what are you guys using, windows 3.1?
- Urusai, on 10/10/2007, -4/+5Icons should be:
- stillmitch, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Does anyone know how to restore icons for the recycling bin, my computer, my documents and my network places in windows XP when they are blank? They aren't deleted and they still function properly, but since switching to the royale noir theme they are just like blank placeholder icons.
- Hattrick, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Right click the desktop,
Choose "Properties",
Choose the "Desktop" tab,
Click "Customize Desktop" button at bottom,
All of the system icons are customizable there.- stillmitch, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Thanks so much. Everywhere I looked was gave instructions on how to re-display deleted icons.
- Calcularius, on 10/10/2007, -9/+1Three easy steps.
1) Dump XP Machine in garbage.
2) Get a Mac.
3) I was just kidding there are only two steps.- gfnw, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Yep, buy new hardware just to replace an operating system. That's the Apple way.
- Hattrick, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Right click the desktop,
- Mutton, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9Am I the only one who thinks this latest fad of displaying gigantic RSS feed buttons on your blog is absolutely stupid?
- antitab, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Dugg for the mention of the new Crystal Project icons, which are absolutely stunning. However, they're forgetting about Oxygen, another great-quality icon set with SVG versions of each icon.
oxygen-icons.org - NicksVideo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1"Elm Nightmare Street Icons"
Nice. - renegadeafk, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Tango ftw
- cephelo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The Tango team's rendition of the gnome-icon-theme is even better than the default Tango set. Some of them are truly awesome. I just wish they released them under LGPL instead of GPL!
- Tetraca, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1How about the icon set that can just show me that this, is in fact a folder which I am clicking on, and not, in fact a text file? GEM's icon set would be good enough for me. Ugly in the eyes of the computer illiterate(think myspace here) is beautiful when it comes to computing, and the GUI in particular.
- janitorgeek, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Why isn't the FamFamFam set in there?
http://famfamfam.com/lab/icons/silk/- Terr01, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1That's the first icon set that came to mind seeing the digg title.
When I become fantastically wealthy from my hypothetical software product, I'll be dropping Mr. James some cash :P
- Terr01, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1That's the first icon set that came to mind seeing the digg title.
- usergentoo, on 10/10/2007, -12/+2buried for the apple crap
- nitrousconsumed, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2Hater
- stuartg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Can icon sets such as these be imported and used for win xp sp2, or any other operating systems for that matter? Or are these sets soley for use in web design?
- Spr0k3t, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Get an icon editor and import the graphics if you want. There are many packages out there which will do this for you... but you would need to pay for it. Another option is to ditch windows and pick something else, but I won't go there.
