http://1984comic.com/?q=node/413 - fernando26, on 10/12/2007, -2/+29My god. Complete and utter blogspam.
A tiny 2 line blurb links to the actual site where the comic exists (http://1984comic.com/ , which is apparently down). Then 95% of the screen is ads and whitespace. Digg should inplement a feature that allows the community to replace crappy blogspam with the link the article truly links to.
Buried with a vengeance for being blogspam. - gumby05, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23I gave my little brother a poster for his birthday that says "Big Brother is Watching You" and has a huge picture of my face.
- RedLion, on 10/12/2007, -1/+202+2=6 for extremely large values of 2.
- stellamaris, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17I made a shirt in High School that said 2+2=5 and no one ever got it. People tried correcting me all the time.
- Waterispoison, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15I really don't understand how hard it is to link to the original site. This spam is ridiculous.
- ezikiel2517, on 10/12/2007, -0/+132+2=5
- kaelyiesta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11extremely large? you mean double plus large.
- 98acura, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9need an option: Bury as Blogspam, and the ability to provide the link to the real item in question.. when enough people do it, the link changes...
- thomble, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Cory Doctorow and his BoingBoing cohorts are all tools.
Blogspam. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5crimestop blogspam.
- asimo8, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I recently read 1984 (again). Amazing how much of it has come true in a modern sort of way.
It is easy to see how the internet can be used as a telescreen type of device (not exactly the same but similar in its goals) in which propaganda (we now call it psyops) is fed to you while your actions are monitored by big brother.
War is peace - it ceases to be a state of war when the war is perpetual and never ending
Freedom is slavery - giving up liberties for the sake of security will only turn us into slaves to our governments
Ignorance is strength - as long as you believe what you are told, there is strength. but the strength is not in the ignorant, it is in big brother - Herkguy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6buried for blogspam...
- 4NDr01D, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4boing boing sucks, esp when you can't comment on any story like you can on Digg
- mikesbaker, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6the people at boingboing put their stuff on the front page by having everyone they know digg it
- foofightrs777, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I always liked Huxley a bit more...I think his dystopian vision is a more potent critique of what one of today's major problems: excessive consumerism.
- millette, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If the server is giving you a hard time, try this coral cache link: http://1984comic.com.nyud.net:8080/
- themulf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This guy did the decoration banners for the fifth HOPE.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Blogspam?
- RadiantBeing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If you like BoingBoing (I don't anymore) you will find it a lot more pleasant if you use one of the following CSS stylesheets with Firefox's Stylish extension. These strip out all the seizure-inducing crap in the side bars and put the content into one clean column.

http://userstyles.org/stylish - EtherGnat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've been meaning to read 1984 for the longest time and this finally inspired me to find a copy to load on my smartphone. You may download the book in various formats from http://orwell.ru/library/novels/1984/english/ but please be aware the copyright has not expired in the US (2044) or Europe (2020).
- Elric1977, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Why is there so much blog spam? Are you THAT desperate to have people read what you stole from another site? Maybe write something worth reading and you won't need to spam Digg. Cuz you are just making people hate your site.... sure you get hits for an hour, then no one ever goes back.
Get a clue about marketing and you'll realize spam is not cool in EVERYONE's eyes. - woody56292, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I double plus happy for this!!!!
I loved this book, really opened my eyes and also scared the crap out of me when I read it. - mrgreen4242, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Zamyatin FTW!
- iTorrey, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7I didn't realize this was based on 1984. I thought I was looking at a comic based on the fox news channel.
He was a visionary
http://www.samizdata.net/blog/archives/002285.html - AltDelete, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Agreed. Where are my mirrors at?
- vdog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just submit the article itself.
- vdog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@popfrogs: Blogspam is where a submission links to a blog which links to the article the submitter actually wants to read.
Bloggers and their friends use it to try and increase traffic to their site, which is why it is considered spam.
The simplest answer is to bury the story, and submit the actual article so it makes the front page. Once the blogspammers see their method no longer working, it should stop. All the comments saying 'bury this' don't actually help. - 4NDr01D, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1my life is much happier without boingboing in it
- 5xSTUN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wish the artist would run a spell-check on the text. It's one typo and misspelling after another.
- foofightrs777, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does anyone have a mirror? Site is down.
- scabbers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wonder if the comic guy knows about the copyright? I suspect he will soon.
- pintomp3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2a sound track for the current administration?
- vikingcoder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@fernando26
Then we'd run into malicious link-changing problems. - sendakseuss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Agree with you on Huxley being a bit more accurate. I don't know if "like Huxley" is the exact phrase that I would use - it's hard to like the truth when it's so painful.
- sendakseuss, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1When I first read 1984, it was actually 1986, I was 16 and the ending so infuriated me that I ripped the book in half and threw it across the room. It's not that I didn't like the book, it just angered me and scared me. More books should be out there like it to keep us on our toes.
Good graphic adaptation by this guy, but it's a bit too hard to read online and I don't plan to print it out. - scabbers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Then you threw yourself on the bed and pressed [play] on your 'The Queen is Dead' tape...
- kappuru, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2A very literal adaptation, but still compelling.
- andr3, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Ouch. BoingBoing and Digg almost at the same time? That's gotta hurt.
- Psalms, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1His stories are interesting, but please- don't take them too literally. Don't give me the whole "OMG America is becoming a totalitarianistic state" B.S., either. They are good novels, leave them at that, and it's a lot more enjoyable. (Not targeted at Asimo8, I kind of agree with the internet part of it.)
- gallagherFTW, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1omg my favorite book. how awesome is O'Brien? I just read an essay by Orwell last night for English. sweeeeeetttttt
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1its in the wrong section, bury
- Sturmur, on 10/12/2007, -11/+5Big Brother is Hitler?
- iTorrey, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2And no, that isn't my blog. How about this article
Big Brother eyes 'boost honesty'
The feeling of being watched makes people act more honestly, even if the eyes are not real, a study suggests.
