- Micherik, on 04/13/2009, -0/+14They... all look the same :/
- MaxMWood, on 04/13/2009, -0/+12I don't like the look of most of them, if i'm honest.
- FredFredrickson, on 04/13/2009, -2/+12Webmaster don't use brushes, you idiot. God, I hate these first-comment bots on Digg.
- FredFredrickson, on 04/13/2009, -2/+10The thing is, if you can't generate at least part of your abstract effects from scratch, it's just going to end up looking like all the other generic trash on the net.
A decent resource, nevertheless. - BugMeNot2, on 04/13/2009, -0/+7These are *****.
- DOUBLEZER00, on 04/13/2009, -0/+7Most of these brushes are unusable in 99% of every day work. You need a highly specialized design built around them to get any use at all. Even then...meh.
- phlyphl69, on 04/13/2009, -0/+5If by "professional" you mean your "clan website" agreed...
- enkideridu, on 05/15/2009, -1/+6Checked technolizard's profile, he's only made 13 comments and most of them are either compliments or thanking people. Definitely not a bot, and the 'idiot' part was totally uncalled for.
- lazy6pyro, on 04/13/2009, -0/+5I thought professionals made their own brushes?
These brushes appeal to PS kiddies and "tag artists" who do nothing more than rip a stock from DA or Planet Renders, haphazardly slap on a few brushes, maybe a 'C4D' (IE: a 3D-abstract render), and then call it DONE without doing anything remotely close to professional.
Thank you, brush makers, for making people think they know Photoshop, while they are actually lazy, incompetent fools. - inactive, on 04/13/2009, -0/+5a real designer can take a ***** brush and make something good out of it..but this collection of brushes are pretty bad
- kate0spencer, on 04/13/2009, -3/+7I think he meant web design masters..
forgive the guy.. he's just overjoyed. :P - sorenrd, on 04/13/2009, -3/+7i dislike noobs who make 'art' by clicking 5 times in photoshop and be like.. "I MADE THIS!"
- sloppychris, on 04/13/2009, -0/+3You only need to "paint" one brush at a time, don't hold down the mouse button for a long row like that. Turn on angle jitter and size jitter in the brush options to randomly change the angle and size so each paint of the brush looks different.
You'll also need to apply some glow effects to the layer to make it look like the pictures in the articles. Check out this tutorial for that:

I was wondering why they set the default brush size so large
thanks! - lazy6pyro, on 04/15/2009, -0/+2Many artists/sculptors that take other materials and create art do so to stand out, and do so to express a message, and not out of inability (which is what I currently see). Many of the artists have had some sort of schooling/training and are quite capable of doing whatever task that presents itself. Take Picasso and Kandinsky (two traditional artists whom are renouned for very abstract and modern pieces that many have considered not to have "great art") they began their careers doing much more realistic paintings and tradition techniques and evolved their style in time.
However, the problem I see in the world of gfx right now is that the abundance of resources and shifting attitudes has lead to a great decline in overall competency and mastery of the software and the medium. There is also very very little deviation from what I consider the "gfx norm" which basically is: Take XXX's background render/stock image, cut out YYY's figure render/image, use ZZZ's and WWW's brushes for blending, and then throw on VVV's 'C4D' and choose one of the blending modes and add in a filter for good measure. It gets very repetitive and very boring and is certainly not the thought-provoking reflection that a statue out of old forks or tapestries out of underwear could be.
Then again, I could just be bitter because I've been getting fewer freelance jobs due to the tightening of wallets. - enkideridu, on 05/15/2009, -1/+3Downloaded some of these to try them out.
I haven't used custom brushes before, are they supposed to be like this?

they look nothing like the images in the webpage..what am i doing wrong here? - kiwimonk, on 04/14/2009, -0/+2It many ways yes, original work is a true testament to the amazingly broad talented pro. However people make statues out of old forks.. Tapestries out of used underwear.. They neither forged or wove the original medium, but were creative with them all the same... Art to me is what you do with what you've got.. if someone wishes to create within the confines of brushes.. so be it.
- lazy6pyro, on 04/14/2009, -0/+2Sure, that logic applies some places; this is why stock photography exists.
It's fine if these things are used as resources ( a small part of the whole), but they aren't. People rely on resources like these to do anything; this shouldn't be the case. Resources should be supplementary, not required.
Brushes aren't difficult to make; heck, I think I make at least two or three every time I start a new design or 3d texture. This way, I don't have to cut corners on my design to make a brush/resource fit. Not to mention I don't have to worry about any copyright/legal issues may (rarely) come up.
My take on design is that the finished work is only a part of the experience. It is going through the trials and tribulations that really make it work so much better. - rurm, on 11/19/2009, -0/+1These are *****.
- Nicoon, on 04/13/2009, -1/+2Didn't this go out of fashion 5 years ago?
- kiwimonk, on 04/13/2009, -1/+2I would argue that the same logic that applies to software development applies here.. Why rewrite code that has already been written.
- rgbg66, on 07/27/2009, -0/+1very mundane
http://faceliftforyou.com - vijjus, on 09/16/2009, -0/+0hey nice collection
- iamheero1, on 04/13/2009, -2/+2I find 90% of the 'professional design' stuff here is total BS. No real designer would use any of this; it's more for the lurking teens who downloaded Photoshop and like to call themselves professionals because they know the shortcuts :(
- slyzxx, on 04/13/2009, -3/+2I could always use new brushes awesome.
- technolizard, on 04/13/2009, -8/+2really cool brushes for web masters :)

What is Digg?
