- fartron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23A license would be nice. Can these be redistributed? Creative Commons? Commercial projects?
- cantankerous, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13All contents © copyright 1999-2005 Spectralogue, Inc. All rights reserved.
If it has a copyright, it's not free or public domain in my understanding of the law. Also, no statement is made on the site except for "take a peek, we won't tell". So I would not use the images directly.
You could grab an image and change things about it to make it your own. Then it would no longer be the same as long at the did not look blatantly similar. - ScottJG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Why does it seem to be going through an advertising link (adv=digg)
- b3and1p, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10yup sure did, over a couple years. Everything is made from scratch. a lot of the images are color corrected and almost all of the textures were taken at dawn to minimize shadowing.
- Durrok, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Your wish is my command.
- smspence, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9What are you talking about? Do you even know what a texture is? This is misleading in absolutely no way. Don't go making comments about things that you are clueless about.
- zcreem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@b3and1p
Follow the questionnaire on this link it should be fairly easy, if it's a language thing there is a link to other jurisdictions (countries) next to the world wide link top right.
http://creativecommons.org/license/ - DanAtkinson, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7@gunmod: Maybe if you stop calling people worthless ***** and morons, you wouldn't get your posts modded down.
- b3and1p, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5You're right. For some reason I wasn't expecting a front page story, so I wasn't prepared. The copyright notice at the bottom has changed.
- seventoes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Sure hope that "adv=digg" in the address doesnt mean "advertising source: digg"
- b3and1p, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Good question. This whole site was created to not be free. I decided a while ago to just say F-it and turn the site from a pay site to a completly free resource. Thats why the images are still watermarked in the low res version.
- b3and1p, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I changed the message on the bottom. Now it says: Free and available for any use commercial or non commercial.
- musteval, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6The real question is, how many of them are not wearing clothes?
Your visitor count is going to be directly proportional to that number. - smhill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3CC is unnecessary (and generally is). He has stated his licensing terms.
@b3and1p
Thanks, very nice resource and very considerate of you to make them available. I for one would be interested in getting them on DVD rather than downloading them. - brfuk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Erm no. He hasn't explicitly specified a license. He casually says it's free, but then also says it's all copyright to spectralogue. For those of us who work professionally in 3D it's very important to know exactly the license regarding source material/textures.
- b3and1p, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Unless they want to download 17gigs I think a mirror isn't coming anytime soon :)
- SneezingTree, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Nice, but are you sure it's legal?
- zcreem, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Nice idea, but please sort out the license thing, dead easy look on the creative commons site (google it) they have stacks of ready made licenses, one should be perfect for you.
With 8Meg downloads, I hope you have spare bandwidth oh! the digg effect, ouch! - zcreem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Your wish is my command
http://www.spectralogue.com/textures/index.php - Knoton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Giving something away and giving the rights to distribute it are 2 very different things
- b3and1p, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Sorry I should have made a copyright page. Basically they are royalty free. I created from scratch everything on that site and it is all availble for whatever purpose.
- chosenone-, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Is this guy gonna try and sue people over using copyrighted material? All rights reserved sounds quite definite to me.
So what will it be b3and1p, is it really free? - FXPooky, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Wow. This is unbelievable. I needed EXACTLY this for Tuesday, you've just saved my life.
I just hope the server is still up for the rest of the week! :P - smokeyghetto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Nice collection. Please keep this up and expand.
Put up a link for donations. Myself and others would be more than happy to dontate in order to use these images. - b3and1p, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Thats just so I can track digg vistors. Its not a referall thing because obviously there is no money to be made ;)
- brfuk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4What is the license for these images?
Are they free for commercial use? Or private non-commercial use only?
Is everything here guaranteed original? i.e not sourced from elsewhere in any way? - catfive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And if they ARE free... why are the thumbnails watermarked?
- occam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This is a great collection! I've been looking to start work in some 3D Models, and I was about to start looking for textures.
- scheper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thanks for your work bandip - it's much appreciated.
- teh1337one, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nice, I really didn't like spending countles hours on Google to find some specific texture. Btw, anybody got a mirror going yet?
- wizpig64, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1so the modesl are just pictures of models? whats the point then?
- xst4t1kx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+117gig sounds like a lot but there really isn't much here, just large file sizes.
- RealyBigFish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Best site ever, I can't say how many hours I have scoured the internet for the right, free, metal and concrete textures
- kolavar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Referrer tags look suspicious, check the browser referrer header instead ($_SERVER['HTTP_REFERRER']). Users who don't have a referrer-capable browser probably aren't worth counting.
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Really, really cool. Although I haven't seen them, I just started using Maya, so this is a great resource
- wizpig64, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh, i see, i saw "click for full resolution" so i was confused when you said "right under the picture." its actually a little farther down :
- b3and1p, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Here are some stats:
about 10k visitors so far.
and only about 6gigs bandwidth so far. I don't think Bandwidth will be a issue, but the speed of the site is.
I looked up creative commons but I couldn't figure it out. - b3and1p, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I actually have a DVD of character reference photos that I was thinking of selling for like $20-$30. Check the site in a month or so if you are interested.
- rideagain, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Thank you!
- BritishGolgo13, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2They're 3D models, not live models if that's what you were after.
Server is under an extremely heavy load, but from what I am looking at, these textures are pretty cool. Sure they might be copyrighted, but you can use them for reference images and create your own textures based off that. Not too bad. - SergeyK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You have to click on download link.rnShould be right under the picture.
- chequel, on 10/13/2008, -0/+0they are not free, just free searchable !!!
this is crap ! - zcreem, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Look up, look down, look up again; there it is at the top
http://digg.com/design/17gigs_of_free_searchable_textures_and_models - SuperSloth, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I wouldn't trust the link. Norton Internet Security is stripping the link from the page on my roommate's PC.
- speakeasy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Turbo Squid is also a resource for free and commercial textures and models. This is a search for free cement textures.
http://www.turbosquid.com/Search/Index.cfm?FuseAction=ProcessSmartSearch&blKeepCheck=y&blShowCategorySelect=FALSE&intCategory2=-1&intMediaType=-1&intMinPrice=&intMaxPrice=0&dateBeforePub=&dateAfterPub=&stgBoolean=l&istSearchKey=concrete&istExcKey=&istIncAuthor=&istExcAuthor=&intFileType_1=-1&intFileType_2=-1&intFileType_3=-1&fltRating=0&intRatingCount=0&x=50&y=11 - geckoman414, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0i thank u for not helping me because i need a link to the web page this digg is about. the blue letters that normaly say the title of the web site are gone. as in i can not see them. so will someone plz post the link to the site. not to the digg. but to the site. i apoligize if i was not clear
- dmitry, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1DIGG DRAMA!!!!
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3exactly. I think Gunmod is the only worthless ***** in this situation
- b3and1p, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1seventoes: it does, but right now it should mean: Advantage: DIGG!
- SergeyK, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I guess you have different idea of 'a lot'
