- Scratkiller, on 06/09/2008, -0/+52http://www.volll.com/ ... this made my head explode!
- dshPls, on 06/09/2008, -5/+33It's probably good if you never go to any of these places for design help. That is unless you want to look like every other designer... Notice how the sites listed all look the same, and contain links to other sites that also look the same? Innovation over imitation.
- jggube, on 06/09/2008, -0/+18I have mixed feelings about this comment. For one, going alone facilitates innovation and true uniqueness. On another, being too different can be a bad thing - and here I'm thinking of alternative navigation schemes, logos not being on top of the page (where users expect it to be), unintuitive page sections, etc. Additionally, to see what others are doing is good because you can have a goal as well as see trends that you may want to incorporate or innovate on.
- wild, on 06/09/2008, -0/+11Not to get all high and mighty, but any designer that isn't following DesignMeltdown.com on a regular basis needs to get that in their bookmarks. It is better than all of the sites up their because it organizes everything by trends and groups like sites together. You can also view by color, specific problems, and the guy that does the writing is pretty solid in ideas. (Not always right, but he always has sound reasoning.)
- x5pfif, on 06/09/2008, -3/+13I wish I could design like that.
- sockpuppets, on 06/09/2008, -1/+11I want to be in the forefront of design trends, and build on further as to how far I can go with my inspirations. Some of these designs are truly inspirational, and to the comment regarding "look like every other designer" I take that as a positive. I would like to say the secret to creativity is inspiration.
- wild, on 06/10/2008, -0/+8Thats because web design and web programming are two different things. While I agree it would be nice to see the occasional gallery of nicely designed apps, for aesthetic inspiration, sites tend to be better.

- Vodd9, on 06/10/2008, -0/+6Another list in my list of lists
- waynesun, on 06/10/2008, -0/+6I'm surprised nobody mentioned www.thefwa.com.
Most amazing websites out there all in one page. - Donchavez, on 06/09/2008, -1/+6Great resources. I'm just starting a redesign and I'm sure this will be a big help.
- tigerpaper, on 06/09/2008, -1/+6cssloaf has such a terrible logo
- itsjustmax, on 06/10/2008, -1/+6It's the same 10 or 12 layouts with different pictures, over and over and over again.
- inactive, on 06/09/2008, -0/+5Great resource of inspiration, looking forward to explore some of them.
- FBMGriever, on 06/10/2008, -1/+6Excuse me digger, but why aren't you on RC2 yet? Tsk tsk tsk...
- Vodd9, on 06/10/2008, -0/+5This made my old pc explode.
- tayf, on 06/10/2008, -0/+5You are both right. Familiarity is the foundation of usability.
I agree that lately I am seeing the same old ***** come up in these galleries. People are copying formulas for a design, changing colours, patterns and then slapping it on a grid and they call it web design. I know this because I used to do it before I really found my way with web design. But this sort of thing shouldn't be showcased and promoted. I see maybe 1 in 20 sites on these galleries where my reaction is 'wow!'. They also seem to be often full of blogs, 'studios' without a mailing address or small time clients.
On the other end of the spectrum is thefwa.com full of big budget flash work.
Where's the in between? - inactive, on 06/10/2008, -0/+5But, what about myspace?
- HungChimp, on 06/10/2008, -0/+4http://www.inspirationfolder.com is probably the largest and it has unique features like storing the designs you like and color search.
- harvested, on 06/10/2008, -0/+4FaveUp.com is good too.
- rdldr1, on 06/10/2008, -0/+4My company (i used to work for) more often than not swipes the source code off the Apple website. Then we study it and use the code for our own.
- flashy007, on 06/09/2008, -0/+4very good sites with good links, sure most of them look the same but they all look professional...
- inactive, on 06/10/2008, -1/+5Just Google "css galleries" and you'll get nearly all of these sites and more. The list is nice but from a designers standpoint it's nothing from ordinary. Most of these sites are good if you want to get up to speed but if you're looking to innovate, I don't think those are good places.
- tippmann1, on 06/09/2008, -1/+5Its a good design and all but in firefox 3 beta 5 on linux the flash object is above the rest of the graphics preventing me from seeing the top of the lighthouse and it completely ruins the gradiant used for the sky. other than that I am in awe of the designer's(plural?) use of javascript to make the movement of the different elements. I am truly amazed.
- Akram, on 06/10/2008, -0/+4Good artists copy, great artists steal.
Picasso. - GregFD3S, on 06/10/2008, -0/+4What about BestWebGallery.com and CSSBeauty.com?
- woofers07, on 06/10/2008, -0/+3that's using some flash, not strictly html and css like these other sites
- therealfoz, on 06/10/2008, -1/+4www.designmeltdown.com & www.dailyslurp.com
- justokman, on 06/09/2008, -3/+6nice sites, but rarely do you see any WEB APPLICATIONS in these galleries
- THE4IRON, on 06/10/2008, -0/+3So much cool stuff here: http://faveup.com/
- minid, on 06/10/2008, -0/+3Pretty true. Real inspiration comes from others sources than finished websites. I recommend anyone to avoid this graphic diet because it will become a temptation to copy it. Watch photographs, subjects, old poster works, walk on your city, study the enviroment and you will reach a good idea.

Best sites for my inspiration for years. - TheKingInYellow, on 06/10/2008, -0/+3if you used to work for a company it was never yours.
- GarethLWalt, on 06/10/2008, -0/+3http://www.gmunk.com -- this guy was pushing flash to it's graphical limits back in version 2. you simply have to get past the awkward navigation and the fact that there's a dancing half naked guy.
- Fubeman, on 06/10/2008, -0/+2And what about The FWA:Favourite Website Awards? I like the list that they have up, but come on, this is a great site for getting the latest cutting edge sites out there. You can not only see a list of the sites awarded, but you can also see profiles of the design firms, interviews as well as view the sites by a whole list of categories. Only half Dugg.
http://www.thefwa.com/ - Fubeman, on 06/10/2008, -0/+2Very funny! I didn't think ***** like this still existed on the web. I was waiting for the 30 or so animated GIFs to start popping up. Almost like getting RickRolled.
- reclusivemonkey, on 06/10/2008, -0/+2No Smashing Magazine? http://www.smashingmagazine.com/
- TheKingInYellow, on 06/10/2008, -0/+2web design and web programming two different things? tell that to everyone on craigslist.
- TheBSG, on 06/10/2008, -0/+2... what? This is a post about design inspiration, not UI design inspiration.
- inactive, on 06/10/2008, -0/+216 Sites to make me feel like crap and want to quit freelance web design because I suck. :(
- webzyne, on 06/10/2008, -0/+2So happy to see Design Snack on this list, thank you!
- cosmotron, on 06/10/2008, -0/+2No csszengarden.com ?

Should be called: "16 Web 2.0 Design Collections - Every flavor of Plain Oatmeal imaginable."
Same old "web 2.0" BS... again. I think that most of these designs, although clean-cut, are very bland and uninspired. How about putting some graphical elements in your design, rather than just 2-colors and gradients? I hate to be pessimist, but I wish people would design sites based on the content composition - not based on the current trends of web design. - Azselendor, on 06/10/2008, -0/+1"I don't steal ideas, I just make sure the person who had the idea before me gets whacked" - unoriginal comment from a xerox manager.
- CircleFusion, on 06/11/2008, -0/+1I think you're generalizing a bit much. Speaking of trends, I think it's become quite popular to complain about "web 2.0" designs. Some of those design elements are things that have existed in graphic design for decades. Sure, there are a lot of designs that are quite similar, but you find that in any media. Do you not think that web design, overall, has improved over the last 5 years?
- antoncox, on 06/27/2008, -0/+1The list is not bad at all. Talking about inspiration take a look at the vector art gallery here : http://vector-art.blogspot.com/search/label/Galler ...
