- yagotmeseruchi, on 05/12/2009, -0/+5YGMS' kwik critique®:
1. Junction--Optima has the serif/sans-serif combo market cornered, and it was designed over 50 years ago. HZ will kick your ass every time in a font design battle.
2. Nadia Serif--OK font
3. Nilland--When I see the term "beautiful" applied toward design I swallow my puke.
4. CartoGothic Std--"legible", what a $hitty compliment to pay any font. Anyone who would download this font already has Myriad, so why bother.
5. Bergamo Std--Anyone who would download this font already has Garamond, so why bother.
6. HVD Comic Serif--This is nothing like Comic Sans, which emulates the writing used in comic/cartoon text boxes. The comparison has absolutely no merit. And comic sans hating is over, years over.
7. Birra Stout--OK font
8. Vegur--See #4
9. Whiteboard Modern--Demo version != high-quality. Filler.
10. Neighbourhood Type-- WTF are those slanty lines? Oh, I get it-you don;t want me taking a screenshot, vectorizing the bitmap, importing/separating into fontlab, and exporting it so I can make crazy cash on your skillz. Don't worry.
11. OK font, not sure what about it makes it a "70s" font.
12. AI!=font
13. See #4
14&15...whatever
Smashing Mag got lazy with this post. See http://www.alvit.de/blog/article/20-best-license-f ... for the good stuff.
- LastDitchHero, on 05/12/2009, -2/+5BURIED, for lack of Comic Sans!!!!
/sarcasm - lpxxfaintxx2, on 05/12/2009, -0/+3Please go crawl back into your hole.
- HamatoKameko, on 05/12/2009, -0/+3Wow, you're a little on the retard side, aren't you?
- HamatoKameko, on 05/12/2009, -0/+3Rock, thanks for the time-saver. :D
- Bobby1978, on 05/11/2009, -2/+5Some excellent fonts there.
- inactive, on 05/12/2009, -0/+2Whiteboard is the only one that I would have considered downloading and it was a demo that was removed...
- HamatoKameko, on 05/12/2009, -0/+2Huh?
- logic, on 05/23/2009, -0/+1All in separate subdirectories which is still pretty annoying - Here's a copy with all of the fonts extracted into one directory (original included as well to preserve EULAs): http://logankoester.com/files/15freshfonts.zip
- IamNomad, on 05/13/2009, -0/+1buried for ***** font list.
- centran, on 05/13/2009, -0/+1site design? you can't use these for a website unless you want 0.000001% of the web to be able to view it correctly. Title should read to boost your graphic design.
Might be good for a banner but I think it is bad site design to use images as text. It is OK for logos as to keep with branding but almost everything else should be avoided. - llamabox, on 05/12/2009, -1/+2They need to do way instain mother> who kill thier mr babby mans.
- AlexanderSavage, on 05/13/2009, -0/+1All five safe fonts? Or whatever the number is. For body copy, and all that sure, but hell use something else for the graphic elements.
- HamatoKameko, on 05/12/2009, -0/+1...I'm not sure how to answer this one.
- lpxxfaintxx2, on 05/12/2009, -0/+1Thanks. Anyone have a .zip archived for this one?
- smackydoodle, on 05/12/2009, -1/+1Neigh... 42 people in the world have Neighboorhood... millions have Comic Sans.
- inactive, on 05/12/2009, -4/+3ever hear of safe fonts? not pictures *****
- Urrelles, on 05/12/2009, -2/+1This is more like 5 new and inventive fonts. The other 10 are just slight modifications to Helvetica. I can go into Illustrator and widen the arch on a "C" or make the whole cast of Hevetica fonts wider.
Now the few that were actually different were really good. - inactive, on 05/12/2009, -2/+0nice post! i like cartogothic!
- brandon93s, on 05/12/2009, -3/+1I have downloaded all 15! Excellent list :)
- annjay, on 05/11/2009, -4/+2This is really a great collection. No doubt these are fresh and beautiful fonts. I am just going to download these.
- DeadlyNinja, on 05/12/2009, -3/+2Buried for no wingdings
- OutThisLife, on 05/12/2009, -4/+1None of these are good...
- arthursk, on 05/12/2009, -4/+0Let's make neighboorhood in all caps the new comic sans, those opposing say neigh...
- inactive, on 05/12/2009, -5/+1Hahah jokes on this web site, we all already have Arial installed, so there is no need to get another font.
- inactive, on 05/12/2009, -7/+3Don't even bother. That's now how fonts work. Your computer reads the fonts on a webpage and displays only what you have. If I have some font called "dibbily dabbily" and you don't have it your browser will just result to something else.
- laterthandawn, on 05/11/2009, -5/+1Nice.
Do you have anything for my sense of self? - BooYah2, on 05/11/2009, -5/+1Yes Please
- styleinmotion, on 05/12/2009, -6/+1some great fonts here, thanks!
- 25oClock, on 05/11/2009, -5/+0Yes, I love to see these types of stuffs that can introduce free things to get.
