- brianter, on 07/11/2008, -10/+30Great article, maybe flash is starting to come back now that google can index it...
- justinil, on 07/11/2008, -6/+20I didn't know it left...
- hijinks, on 07/11/2008, -4/+16thanks.. i was looking to learn actionscript and flash now that you can use it with google maps and its a lot faster then their javascript version.
- aslemay, on 07/12/2008, -0/+6Blame the carpenter, not the tool.
- kgdoom, on 07/12/2008, -1/+7But you do watch TV in a browser, no? Round 1 goes to Flash.
- prgmctan, on 07/12/2008, -0/+5I do
- inactive, on 07/11/2008, -2/+7Lots of great websites here, most I've never heard of. I'm digging goToAndLearn video tutorials.
- dontswimtoshore, on 07/12/2008, -0/+4flashkit is a nightmare of a site. kirupa ftw.
- Olfster, on 07/12/2008, -0/+4Unless the carpenter is a tool.
- ChrisXPPro, on 07/12/2008, -2/+6I Personally Use Flex, and I LOVE IT!
- orangethirteen, on 07/12/2008, -3/+7Okay, we need to stop the hating on flash. It's a great tool when used correctly.

http://www.thefwa.com - kgdoom, on 07/12/2008, -0/+4I'm currently writing Flex apps in AS3, but I've also written apps in C#. Adobe should be very worried.
- meeee, on 07/11/2008, -4/+8eh, dude - coming back from where? It never left, it took off after the launch of Flex and when Adobe bought Macromedia.
- Charklii, on 07/12/2008, -0/+4Since before then.. actually.
- DoodleMaster, on 07/11/2008, -1/+5I want to learn how to use flash but every website i checked seemed geared for people who know action script already and only needed a guide on how t do things nothing for legitimate beginners.
- MavRevMatt, on 07/11/2008, -1/+4Digg's algorithm is kinda ***** since the recommendation engine isn't it? I can't see any reason this isn't on the frontpage.
- JonnyCasino, on 07/11/2008, -2/+5i've used Flash Kit for a few years now, and really didn't need to explore other resources with my work capacity, but ActionScript 3 Tutorials on your list actually is very helpful. thanks.
- l0k0, on 07/11/2008, -2/+5I found this one helpful too; a bunch of tutorials from all over the place:
http://www.tutorialized.com/tutorials/Flash/1 - analreceiver, on 07/12/2008, -1/+4I might not be a huge flash fan... but dugg for the fact that digg needs more articles like this
- bizsumpark182, on 07/12/2008, -1/+4This is a fantastic list. There were only three sites on there that I already used.
- vinnyvenus, on 07/12/2008, -1/+4Lookat all these people hating flash for no good reason. I want to go against popular opinion and openly admit that I love Flash.
- kgdoom, on 07/12/2008, -0/+2As usual, the developers will choose. Software doesn't write itself.
- inactive, on 07/12/2008, -0/+2Once Silverlight 2 is finalized, the developer community for Silverlight will be larger, much smarter, and much more capable than the flash community. Flash has no chance on this one.
- ravithepimp, on 07/12/2008, -1/+3Where's Kirupa? I know he surfs digg.
- NGliam, on 07/12/2008, -0/+2http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/638183
- patm1987, on 07/12/2008, -0/+2They would seem to be targeted at different markets in the end. Flash has the very visual and standard development envrionment. Silverlight, on the other hand, is programmed in a standard development environment (Visual Studio Express would perform fine for most users) without any of the visual aids to development. For developers familliar with writing interactive multimedia applications in C# this provides an excellent chance to expand into the area of web based applications. I personally would love to see my XNA applications running in a web browser and on OSX/Linux (although since XNA wraps DirectX for much of its functionality, it would be interesting to see if Microsoft could make a cross platform executable even using a virtual machine).
- Jakerius, on 07/12/2008, -0/+2Sure, but it so often isn't, and the retarded use of Flash is so prevalent that I feel justified in completely avoiding sites made entirely out of Flash.
- Stonekeeper, on 07/12/2008, -0/+2'Suse my noobness, but is there a free flash compiler/ide around these days?
- Table16, on 07/11/2008, -2/+4I wonder how much Silverlight is going to take away from Flash and stuff. Good ol Microsoft needs their hands in everything.
- GeorgeStone2, on 07/12/2008, -0/+2I haven't used AS 3.0
But I'm pretty pro at AS 2.0.
I need to actually finish a game though. I had a bunch of old projects I never finished. - TastyLamp, on 07/12/2008, -1/+3Exactly. You can do flashy annoying ***** in HTML, too.
- inactive, on 07/12/2008, -0/+2For the Flex oriented:

- desbest, on 08/12/2008, -0/+1great article i love it
- championchap, on 07/12/2008, -2/+3Good *****, love Flash.. Been at it for so long now it feels like second nature using it.
Still though, especially when coding there is always a time when i just go "what the hell!!"
Very useful. Couple ive not explored till now. Thanks! - maximumsteve1, on 07/12/2008, -5/+61) Flash never went away. If you go to youtube, you use flash. 99% of video on the internet is served up using flash.
2) Flash DOES need to go away. It's bloated, ugly, proprietary garbage. No one in their right mind would make a website in flash. It's currently enjoying popularity just because all browsers have it. - geoken, on 07/11/2008, -2/+3I don't think either one will really take away from the other. Flash is free and trivial to install. Even if silverlight becomes really popular there wouldn't really be a reason to not install Flash. It isn't like people are going to have to choose one or the other.
- sparkalex, on 07/12/2008, -1/+2Any San Francisco natives interested in ActionScript might like to attend this months "San Flashcisco" (San Francisco's Flash Platform User Group) meeting as this month they're hosting an ActionScript round table event. More info on the website: http://sanflashcisco.com/
- theadvinci, on 08/11/2008, -0/+1Is it really so hard to make search engine friendly flash sites?
- geoken, on 07/11/2008, -4/+5If you figure out why you posted that comment then you'll have your answer.
(I'm going to assume it has something to do with mindlessly following the herd and posting things you think will make you sound cool) - annjay, on 07/11/2008, -1/+2Collection is really nice. Same with me that I often use flashkit for my flash needs but in this list I found some great websites as well. I will must try them.
- xeo4ke, on 07/12/2008, -0/+1SEO + Flash = pwned
Expect to see allot more crap and allot more cool soon. - gareth84, on 07/12/2008, -0/+1Another good way to learn is to see how the masters do it: http://flashden.net?ref=Chuckanucka
- inactive, on 07/12/2008, -1/+2I concur.

- stepfresh, on 07/12/2008, -0/+1use the flex sdk and compile with mxmlc
http://www.adobe.com/products/flex/flexdownloads/i ... - findhostcoupons, on 03/22/2009, -0/+1Being a beginning web developer, I would like to point out that this story is very helpful for me!
- NGliam, on 07/12/2008, -0/+1Although I agree flash should not be used for full websites, Flash is a brilliant platform and has been for some time. Actionscript is so easy to use, it allows for brilliant creativity and cool interactivity.. not to mention the usage for full video players such as YouTube. Without flash, youtube would not exist.
- Patareco, on 07/12/2008, -1/+2I don't! I think flash is the right way to serve interactive multimedia...
- feelphones, on 07/13/2008, -0/+1Thaks
