Enjoy my mirror: http://www.nate-dog.com/digg/cssbeauty.htm
(score it so people with a threshold can see it) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I would only use some of these recommendations. For example, I personally do not consider his "fix" for clearing floated divs that useful. Not only are you relying on a rendering bug in IE to keep displaying divs in the "right" way, all you are effectively doing is requiring we add css code that some browsers don't support properly and in place of a normal you are assigning a class to the container div. Additionally, if I use a normal clear:both I don't have to worry about my divs displaying correctly if someone has their stylesheets turned off. My divs will still be nicely contained because IE, Opera, and Firefox render the assigned style clear:both styles.
- Elxx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I was just about to post what you just said, geuis. I just use a class with clear:both applied to it and stick that in a quick div wherever it's needed. The method written there seems like more work and is probably buggier and less compatible with other browsers as well.
- jased, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yep it's down and I can't get to the mirror either.
- yesacs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0geuis and elxx,
you are both right in that you put div with clear: both in there, but the technique is so that you don't have to alter structure, which is important. It also works in most browsers and is actually quite easy to implement. Here at the shop (i'm a web dev, eek!) we switched from clear: both divs because it can cause a serious case of divitis (divs for no good reason). - digikill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is why I never post links to any site I host on Fark, Digg, or Slashdot.
- theohiobloke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0We dugg them into the ground. Site down!
- Galileo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice website 'This account has been suspended' :)

- brandonb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good to know, did you ever find a new host?
- droppyale, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've removed the donation button... This was no planned, and certainly was not done for money.
- LoathRevolver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How many sites has Digg brought down in the course of its history? It seems like every time I come here the external link is down do to high usage. Seems like being a Digg story is a blessing and a curse.
- champ365, on 02/08/2008, -0/+0thanks for the tip. I'll use it on my site
http://lizziebooks.com - digikill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If the targeted site owner had a choice to either serve pages ( and ads ) until the server melts, or have their site temporarily mirrored, I wonder which option would be more popular?
I would prefer to have some system of mirroring setup before the linky hit digg or a similar site that can bring the noise. - HitLines, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The problem lies with personal blogs hosted on virtual server or in worst case, privately on a small bandwidth pipe. If the site is strict HTML then the server does not have to parse any code because the browser will turn the code into something visual.
More complex sites that implement PHP, ASP, etc. along with a database, such as a CMS like Wordpress uses, takes more server resources as the server must process it first before it can spit out a result. So combine a small bandwidth pipe with a ton of database lookups = diggdotting/digg effect. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I love it when digg causes somebody to have to buy extra bandwidth or make their website unloadable, it's f**king awesome man!!!
- aznboi04k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i dugg it for the digg effect, lol.

We're they just wanting money? - Gruesome, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"CSS Beauty will return soon
our server was killed by digg.com and del.icio.us/popular/, we are currently looking to switch to a better host."
Oh, dear! - GoblinCock, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Maybe it is a repeat, but it is useful. Right on Devision.
