- TheThirdWheel, on 10/12/2007, -4/+107I think I got these same pictures from my grandma in an E-mail in the late nineties.
- ABadInAlbany, on 10/12/2007, -7/+68lame, old, and mostly photoshopped.
- ModernGeek, on 10/12/2007, -10/+36http://www.duggmirror.com/
- BionicBeefpile, on 10/12/2007, -9/+35Wow... this is one best example of a stupid website
- dogbowl, on 10/12/2007, -4/+29you must be new here.
- detrate, on 10/12/2007, -13/+38oh the irony... the domain of this site is "notusable.com"
- cowardlydragon, on 10/12/2007, -6/+31Not irony. Irony is reality contrary to expectation. A strip club in Spread Eagle City is expectation meeting reality.
- NeutrinoQ, on 10/12/2007, -5/+30Does anyone else think at least some of those signs are photoshopped?
::shrug:: - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23I saw a sign in a public bathroom above a urinal. It said, "We aim to please. You aim, too, please. - The Management"
- szembek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17I dugg you all down for discussing politics.
- szembek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14It works perfectly with firefox 2.0.
- Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12If you think that's silly, clearly you've never heard of Dildo, Newfoundland.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dildo%2C_Newfoundland - izzie2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12My favorite sign is just down the street from here( Little Rock Arkansas).
It reads,"Caution: Road unsafe when under water".
The first thing I thought was duh.
2nd thing was that they put the sign there for a reason which means there were apparently alot of idiots who thought they had a boat car? - ricree, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14"If there is a HUGE ***** up, call Todd"
How is this not the greatest sign ever. - Hardcase, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13'Cause it's Photoshopped?
- caseycoold, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11My grandparents house has one:
"My aim is to keep the bathroom clean, you aim would be appreciated." - Hashiro, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Does it really matter? It beats sitting at my desk, frustrated taking calls from stupid people that don't know how to turn on their computer...
- heptahedron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10My Favorite: Signs for garage sales/yard sales/tag sales that give the date of the sale as "Today" with no indication of actual date. These signs sit on telephone poles for weeks
- master_of_fm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9somewhere outside of weiser, idaho there is a an intersection of "This" and "That" road
- bakagaigin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I'd be disappointed if there weren't one!
- spidoman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I prefer Athol, Idaho. As you drive by, oh man it smells like Athol in here. Athol is the Athol of Idaho.
- drewskyjones, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12Really old pics...amusing, but not digg worthy, IMHO.
- Odweaver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6This website doesn't have the sign warning of sharp edges on the sign with a small sign close by saying the bridge is out.
- skankyBacon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I'm pretty sure the SHCOOL one is photoshopped.
The A.B.USED CARS sign I'm thinking is intentional. Note the Groucho Marx picture.
The movie theater sign is an amusing coincidence, but not really stupid.
The construction site one is pretty funny, but obviously intentional, not really stupid
The only one that seems stupid is the Instant Death/$200 fine one.
The newer post, with pointless rambling about open-source program names not being descriptive enough, is completely mind-numbing. Like "Excel" is descriptive of a spreadsheet program? Dreamweaver? Acrobat? - gabraham, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Many of these look like fakes.
- awm4, on 10/12/2007, -11/+16I have been to Spread Eagle it is a small town in Upper Peninsula Michigan. Not much is there. But ironically they do have a strip club.
- raindog469, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yeah, I can verify the "maze without walls" one is real.... it's Wolf Road in Albany, NY, looking south towards Central Ave (Route 5, which you can see in the background.)
On the right you can see IHOP and Herman's World of Sporting Goods. Herman's closed about 15 YEARS AGO to be replaced by a strip mall with Starbucks, Barnes and Noble, etc. and all the entrances and exits you see have long since been replaced by one traffic light.
Buried for being old and linking to the front page of a blog (which now displays a "Linux command names? What's up with that?" article, also pretty retro) instead of the actual entry.
Oh yeah, and if that "huge ***** up" sign weren't photoshopped, it'd be one of the rare examples of extremely clear and concise communication. - PhillyMJS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The best sign ever was handmade by an Iraq war supporter a few years back, to let the antiwar protesters know what he thought of them:
"Get a brain! Morans"
Yes, the person holding the sign had a mullet. You can't write jokes like this.
If by some chance you haven't seen this image yet, Google the sign's content-- you'll find plenty of photos and links to people mocking the idiot.
~Philly - lechatron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I end up here when I click the duggmirror link: http://duggtrends.com/diggmirror.aspx
The problem isn't FF 2.0, it's most likely a firewall you have running that is blocking the referrer. - Ystig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That Windjammer sign might look absurd, but having lived in downtown Toronto at Grange Blvd. and Grange Ave., which is two blocks east of a Grange St. and a block west of Grange Rd., I can kind of believe it.
- OiJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4http://www.funnysign.com/funnysign/086_water.jpg
A personal favorite. - buddylee415, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Just throwing this out there.
Near my town there is a sign hanging over the road near a bridge that reads:
"If you hit this sign, you will hit that bridge." - arizonagroove, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8"Don't digg tvh2k down, the plain ol' http://www.duggmirror.com/ doesn't work with Firefox 2.0."
Maybe not for you. Works fine for me. - mancat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I've never been able to figure out how people miss the urinal. I'd have to be pass-out drunk before I'd miss a urinal, and by that point I'd be too far gone to unzip my pants.
- indy500fan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Two of those signs aren't even stupid, they are completly normal. The first one with Windjammer drive looks just fine to me. The second to last one with the two one-way streets also looks completly fine.
The author is probably one of those people who don't know how to read signs, and piss off the people like me.
/Yield does NOT mean stop.
//Left lane is the FAST lane, so get the hell out of my way! - IzeasGT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3They didn't list this one?
http://dowhatitsays.ytmnd.com/ - Liembo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Here's a sign for those in case they don't understand how stairs work:
http://www.bahneman.com/liem/caps/tn/upstairs.jpg.html - IEatHamburgers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I guess people in the U.P. are too "moranic" to give their cities distinct names. Anybody Photoshopped a "Detour to DeTour" sign yet?
- dcipjr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3In the Valley Forge / King of Prussia, PA area where I work, there's Gulph Road, North Gulph Road, South Gulph Road, Upper Gulph Road, Lower Gulph Road, New Gulph Road, and Old Gulph Road. Sometimes they're the same road, but not always. Sometimes they intersect, but not always. I owe a kick in the ass to whoever thought that road naming scheme was a good idea.
- silentex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The A.B.Used Cars was intentional. I work for the company, it's located in Beaumont, TX. AB Used Cars no longer exists, but the owner had, at that point, three different companies: American Bedroom Home Center, Golden Triangle Insulation and A.B. Used Cars. The A.B. comes from American Bedroom, seeing as the lot was in front of the store. Nonetheless, the owner/my boss is an absolute idiot and an *****. So, I like the fact that they call him an idiot.
- rc_collins, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Nothing like some old and busted Photoshoppes to make the news.
--dan - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Was I the only one who caught that he (incorrectly) called Evolution a web browser?
- acousticiris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Interesting site, though at this point he's already added a new post where he takes apart names of open source software.
The thing I found funny is he both proved his point and proved his ignorance. He referred to Evolution as a Web Browser, which it is not ... it is ... effectively ... a mail client. So he may not be as much of an open-source advocate as he states. (I think he was looking for "Epiphany").
He is right about the names though. It took quite a bit of getting used to the naming of some of the things in Linux, especially KDE (We get the picture, now please kuit it!).
One thing is for sure, though, most major distributions that are aimed at the desktop do a very good job of organizing the software in the start menu so that you have a relatively good idea about what it does.
The reality is...most open source projects don't have marketing departments. Many don't have more than one developer. And (a point I've made several times), most don't care if you run their software or not, so they don't put much time or thought into naming.
It's unfortunate that the names can't be as explicit and obvious as we'd like so they'd get mass exposure, but if the focus isn't on mass exposure (or how it's going to look in a menu), then who cares? - riplikethat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3You feel a connection with them?
- noGoodNamesLeft, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2IIRC that particular image is one of the running cliches on fark.com...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4FYI, not just left-wingers are digging you down, for wasting 5 seconds of my life reading your comments, I also dugg you down and I'm a centralist. Neither left or right.
- Pyrogen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Lack of caring.
- mark1372, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Nothing says bleeding-heart liberal commie more than wacky signs.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4"This Account Has Been Suspended
Please contact the billing/support department as soon as possible."
I don't get it??. And where are the 9 other signs? ;) - IBadassI, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Seen some of these before, but well funny.
Abused cars - with Groucho Marx LOL! -
