OWD was the next step, but was sold to a new owner who put ads into the templates themselves, which prompted the core of the community to leave and start OpenDesigns.org, which might not have the most designs now, but is the most active and has the freshest stuff.

I'll agree with the first 2 you listed, and also add PHP and Ruby on Rails. As for the Linux thing, as much as I like it, it doesn't seem to be taking Windows or Mac OSX down anytime soon. It might once Linux users develop the ability to recognize flaws in their OS, but for the time being, the Linux community would rather bash Windows than fix their own interface problems. I'll just say that Linux+Apache+PHP is the best setup for web servers and leave it at that.
As for Open Source software as a whole, it generally just can't compete with professional-grade software. GIMP's been around for a while, and it's just about on par with Photoshop from 10 years ago (but not quite). I'd personally like to see some better Open Source software available, but it doesn't seem to be happening. - travbrack, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Very helpful, thank you.
