- zeropointD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6TigerDirect is the biggest ripoff artists out there. I made the mistake one time of buying something from them with a rebate and never saw a dime. They suck. Avoid at all costs.
- Omninox, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0I actually like TigerDirect, and I have got some REALLY good deals from them in the past. I have received rebates for all of my purchases without any problems. Their rebate system seems to work fine for me!
- Ssullivan, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Same here, I have had no problems with rebates from tigerdirect...
- flapjack, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yarr, they be pirates of hardware!
- mattza, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I didn't have any problems with the rebate from tigerdirect, but the manufacturer of the mobo I bought from them. I had to call a lot and annoy this one guy at Biostar to get my refund. Beware of Biostar, and talk to Leo if you are missing your rebate.
- markman07, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I will let you know what I find out in 6-8 weeks.
- mattza, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4just to show how greedy these guys are, they tried to sue apple for naming thier new os x version 'tiger'.
- Darth_tater, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5i submitted this and i hope i get my case+ PSU deal with the $60 rebate...
i have read a lot of stories that either say "i got my rebate" , or "never saw a dime"
seems like a hit or miss thing...
wish me luck cuz i cant afford 2 eat the rebate - disord3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Rebates are very hit or miss. I've submitted 7 or 8 rebates in my life, and only ever got 2 of them. Fortunately they were the larger ones, but it gets to a point where it's just not worth the hassle over $10 or $15.
The first time I got stiffed, I ended up giving up after having to call the company 4 separate times and either talking or waiting on hold for 5 hours in total.
How much is your time really worth? Better make sure the rebate is worth it. - takdiego, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I bought a pc from tiger direct... I think the motherboard isn't top of the libe..but I had a good experience..
no rebate from what I remember though - hater2win, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I bought that 79 dollar seagate deal (After rebate) from tiger the other day, and i already recieved my rebate, like... 5 days early. *Shrug* I guess it really is a hit or miss thing.
- Gamepad-Guru, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I really don't like rebates. If you're gonna get the money back ANYWAY, why not just reduce the price.
- nyamdagni, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0its because they want you to forget about sending in the rebate... my family and I always say that we'll send in the rebates but we usually end up not sending it.
- CapAmerica, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I've been buying all my PC stuff from TigerDirect for the last 5 years and I've never had any problems. No problems with the rebate too.
- PunkFenixJT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I never got a rebate back from Tigerdirect....im a newegg guy neways
- kubedawg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"I really don't like rebates. If you're gonna get the money back ANYWAY, why not just reduce the price."
well, first of all, they do it so they can look good when it comes for how much money they made each quarter. secondly, a lot of people are just too lazy to fill out therebate form and dont ever send it in, making the company more money.
but i agree. i only look for instant savings if at all possible. if i cant pass something up because its that good, i usually go to different sites to see what the diff is and whether or not they honor rebates and such. - binarystar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Newegg.
- AndrewJ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Tiger Direct is BBB flagged for fraud which is almost impossible to have happen.
The Federal Trade Commission issued a Decision & Order against Tiger Direct for violations that does not expire until 2019!
http://www.bbbsoutheastflorida.org/nis/newsearch2.asp?ID=1&strBCode=06330000&ComID=0633000027000500 - BigGroundhog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I had an issue with a 50$ rebate via OnRebate. The OnRebate web site is a little light on information, but a quick phone call to their customer support people and I found out that I was missing the proper receipt. I emailed the missing documentation to them and they were able to continue processing my rebate without any issues. Rebates are a pain, but either choose not to purchase products with a rebate, or definitely follow up on the rebates so that this isn't another profit center for the companies that will keep rebates around for years to come.
- siloportem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Whenever you send in a rebate, make copies of everything you're sending in. That way you can at least have something to refer to when they come back at you with missing signatures, UPC codes, etc. It'll at least give you some power to figure out whether or not they're BS'ing you.
- Darth_tater, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0i never thought that my story would go 2 the HOME page thanks for digging digg more cux it would be awesome if i could get on the diggnation podcast... (i am a big fan of diggnation) mostly cuz of the fact that kevin and alex are funny...but i also feel sorry that they fired alex from tss after only a few monts of shows... i also think that g4 fouled up tech tv and it pisses me off that g4 ruins the thing that got me hoocked on technology (i have built/refurbished over 40 laptops/computers/servers and i have written some software mostly ***** stuff) NOT BAD FOR 14 but what g4 did pissed me off
ANY HOO im done with that little rant...
plz digg this some more cuz that would be awesome if it got on diggnation!
and a will state that tigerdirect even though they have been submitted for fraud it still is a hit or miss thing with the rebates
seems as tho manufactures and tigerdirect specify what ever back ass backards things you must have 2 qualify for a rebate and then the complicate the process by throwing in throw onrebate.com thing...
so for those of you that have gotten all your rebate back u probabley did not have many things to fill out for the rebate
and i am glad 2 hear that you got your money
but for those that did not.... they probably made you provide a bunch of things and the rebate amount was probably for a lot... - Slipdisc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Tiger always seemed kind of high on their shipping charges. I switched to Newegg for that reason alone. Never looked back.
- A-Dubb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I've never had a problem, in fact it seems as though they really want me to get my rebates as I always get emails telling I should really download and print my rebate forms and send them in. Hell, they also send me links to to get printable order forms to send in with the rebates. Just because one or 2 people have this doesn't mean jack.
- LukeAskew, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1tigerdirect prints a note on the invoice saying that if you bought a product with a rebate you have to go to tigerdirect.com/rebates to print out the forms. this guy got all hot and bothered about nothing. all he had to do was take the time to read his invoice.
- loker269, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0so he does not pay attention to his rebate forms and misses the signature and its tigerdirects fault? this is ridiculous me and many many many other people I know have never had issues with rebates from tigerdirect or any other issues they are awesome on returns and everything
- Dafish, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0You have to think of rebates as a bonus. If their prices are cheaper than the competitors or close to it before rebates, then buy it. Submit the rebate, a couple months later a nice bonus comes in the mail. SOMETIMES
- hablahforme, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Got all my rebates back flawlessly from them and I use them alot!
- Trivialnight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The bastards OnRebate.com are a bunch of morons, and they think i am one too. They ripped me off of a $30 rebate, they told me that I sent the receipt, and the rebate form, but they made me try to believe I forgot to put a UPC thing into the envelope, uhhh I remember putting the little thing in the envelope wrapped with the receipt in the rebate form. But those idoits probally dropped the UPC in the morning when opening mail and lost it, cause its not anywhere on my desk the only other place i had the evenlope and sealed it.
- OrSupport, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If you made a copy of the UPC code please send an email to nadina.urdaneta@onrebate.com and you will be instructed on how to resubmit.
A lot of times customers use a wrong barcode (UPS label or vendor barcode) or it fell out of the envelope, this is why it is always recommended to make copies.
- OrSupport, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If you made a copy of the UPC code please send an email to nadina.urdaneta@onrebate.com and you will be instructed on how to resubmit.
- drummer70714, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Rebates suck. Stop doing it. Don't buy anything with rebates and hopefully these people will get the message. Never had a problem with tigerdirect.com, but i never buy rebated items either.
- Wondermikej, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i agree with many aspects of this article and responses.. I bought my laptop from them them and recieved a rebate form for the printer i got with it for "free".. i receieved the printer a week before the laptop which was real fun and then when i got the laptop and reciepts to send in the rebate for everything.. i only got 50 of the 80 $ promised.. i was not pleased.. great hardware though..
- WolfwoodX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Booo.... Newegg only uses FedEx for shipping. TigerDirect uses UPS. Yay!! You know what I say, screw both of them and go to buy.com
- Darth_tater, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0www.newegg.comthats what im gona do from now on
and for thos jackasses above...
maby actualy reading the article might do you some justice
the guy goes on about how he did everything how he was suposed 2 just that they (tigerdirect.com)in partnership with (www.onrebate.com) is being a pain in the ass
so i am only bring this 2 other people attention.
dont be so quick 2 judge.
and yes i know that a rebate is considered a bonus but still they should not be cited by the BBB and they should not have so many complints filed against them
i hope it works for me - Saxonx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I shopped at Tigerdirect one time, had a $50 mail in rebate, followed directions, fwd to 2 years later and still no $50 dollars. Mail in rebates suck all around. Newegg.com is peferct, good service and good prices.
- sarasweet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ha! The best part of ripoffreport.com is the "adultery" section. Check it out, it's just people just posting the names of people who cheated on them! Much more interesting than some rebate scam. I avoid rebates. Even when I rebate is offered I usually don't go through the hassle of actually filling that crap out and crossing my fingers that someday a check will show up. Except Amazon.com, they're great.
- flash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ok, first of all MAKE COPIES!!! If you have a copy of everything you sent....trust me they will always honor your rebate. I have gotten a 100% return on all my rebates. On several occasions some companies would claim that I had not sent a piece of information. All I did, was call them up and tell them I had copies of everthing I sent...including a copy of the UPC taped to the rebate form. 9 times out of 10 they will just process your rebate after you tell them you have copies.
Also, newegg is ok right now....but they starting to suck as they get bigger and bigger. You hardly get any deals now actually. Something might be a couple of bucks cheaper but usually the same as other online stores. Definitely better than retail though...thats for sure, places like BestBuy ripp you off. Lately, I have been getting my stuff from ZipZoomFly.com they they got the same prices as newegg usually with a lot faster shipping for the same price. - WarrenPeace, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have bought many many things from Tiger Direct including my current system with $160 worth of rebates most of which from OnRebates and have had absolutely no problems.
- Cameron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have used the Onrebate.com system before and it worked fine for me, it took a long time for me to get my rebate but I did get it. I found the process to be easy. I wouldn't buy another item from tigerdirect.com because of a rebate because it just takes too long to get the money.
- dhughes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0 I no longer buy anything that has a mail in rebate as part of the price. The way I see it is if you don't get the rebate and if the price as advertised included the rebate then it's fraud!
Also, written on the rebate forms I used to send in were wonderful phrases as such "we have the right to honour", "not all will be honoured" etc. So really it's at the whim of the company to honour the rebate. - Randude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I use Tigerdirect all the time with rebates and never have a problem. The $1 charge with paypal they just started in the last month or so and they did NOT make this public as near as I can tell. I usually submit between 3-4 rebates a month. You have to make sure that you follow all instructions to the letter!
- zombiedog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have no experience with their rebate program but have visited their Miami store several times. This is the big lots of the computer world, tons of junk with very few jewels, snarling security guards at the door and plywood covering the door glass. A getto store in a getto city. I was looking for a cheap joystick and found it, at the target next door for half the price of tiger!
- 16x9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I am an anal retentive freak-a-zoid by nature so it's not like I'm likely to have made too many errors when requesting rebates. But all-in-all I've received fewer than half the rebates to which I'm entitled.
Like Donald, the rebate companies always had a "good" reason for rejecting my claim. And every excuse was crap. My willingness to send them a photocopy of the item(s) they claim were missing never worked because of their "it has to be the original" policy. Now there's a catch-22.
Screw rebates! I no longer look for them. The only price that matters to be is the price I paid when I walked out of the store. - superultra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I hate to say it, particularly in light of 240 diggs, but this Digg not Bitchh.
A valid submission would have been a published or researched article on TigerDirect rebates, not a link to the poster whining that he didn't get his rebates. - taintedlove, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have no issues with TigerDirect. The rebates are clearly explained and simple for anyone who takes the time to read the instructions.
OnRebate does need some work. I mailed two rebates on the same day. They were received and accepted on the same days (according to OnRebate's tracking info), but it took 25 more days to process one payment. But ALL rebates through them have been honored.
The original poster's ripoffreport shows his own negligence in the process. Anyway, since OnRebate handles the program his complaint should be with it and indirectly with TD. - gmiller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Maybe now some of these morons will quit digging "deals" for mail in rebates.
- ah802, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Got my $40 rebate from Tigers 'OnRebate' online operation a full 6 months after purchase. I took 2 mailings before they acknowledged my rebate and 2 further reminder calls. Long wait, but it does happen, even if you have to make it so.
- G-RaZoR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0NewEgg for life!
- Mattrichards, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i don't like tiger direct they remind me of the ABC warehouse of comp parts
always to good of deals until you read details - peterxparker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I like NewEgg better or zipzoomfly for some stuff, but I've used TigerDirect a bunch and never had any problems receiving rebates.
- castufari, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I bought Quicken in 1995...it took them 5 years to get me my $50.00 rebate. I forgot about it, emailed them, they called. When they sent it they called to make sure I got it and wanted to know if I was still buying their stuff, I said that yes, thanks to warez I'd never have to worry about a rebate from them again. The guy wasn't amused.
newegg rules.
That was the only time I had a problem with rebates. They're easy - read the forms (not too hard, if you can't read, just ask your mom to read for you) - gather all of the required bits - then send it in. Oh, KEEP A COPY. This is an easy CYA should you have problems. - catoutfit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I really don't like rebates. If you're gonna get the money back ANYWAY, why not just reduce the price."
also they make interest and can invest on overnight markets with the money they owe, lets say for example at any time they're oweing $1,000,000 in rebates (not that much for a company of that size, i'm sure they make more) thats like 20,000 x $50 rebates, they're making $1000 a week interest on that money...actually that's probably not true, $1000 a week isnt that much for a company of that size...my theory sucks - jonesey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I bought a case from them with a $30 rebate. I kept checking the on line status of the rebate and wasn't seeing anything so I ended up calling them. I was told on the phone that the rebate for my hard disk was in process. After convincing the idiot on the phone that I had never bought a hard disk from them I managed to get him to send out the check. I did receive it in the end, but it was a lot more hassle than I would have expected.
Now I just avoid rebates from anyone, even though I've never had problems with rebates from Staples and OfficeMax etc. I'd rather pay a little bit more now, that pay a lot more and then (maybe) get some back months later. -
