- Neticule, on 03/12/2008, -9/+108Wow thats a pretty old animation! Did they use flash?
- coppyrightmind, on 03/12/2008, -1/+72FTA: "the members of the team at that time had not recognised the relationship between the pictures." They must have been the most unobservant archaeologists ever.
- creationism, on 03/12/2008, -8/+70Wow, that's only 800 years after the world was created by God!
- Jo9100, on 03/12/2008, -3/+49Old.
- mooshcala, on 03/12/2008, -3/+47Soon to be Pixar's next feature
- h4mx0r, on 03/12/2008, -1/+36Actually it was an earlier version of shockwave.
- gthyb, on 03/12/2008, -1/+28The world's oldest animation is a gif?
- TobiasParker, on 03/12/2008, -3/+30I figured the first animation would be some kind of porn...
- mwolfzorn, on 03/12/2008, -1/+26It's actually really old, it's from several thousand years ago.
- h4mx0r, on 03/12/2008, -0/+24WHAT TRICKERY IS THIS?
- ninjaberry, on 03/12/2008, -0/+21Quicktime keeps telling me I don't have the right codec to view Iranian goblets.
- Roger, on 03/12/2008, -0/+21Still more entertaining than American Dad!
- berky93, on 03/12/2008, -2/+18oh it was...the maker had a weird goat fetish.
- capiCrimm, on 03/12/2008, -1/+17You laugh but...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:%C3%89douard-He ... - makkaveli19, on 03/12/2008, -1/+16it's actually older than the internet
- superfusion, on 03/12/2008, -2/+17I count nine frames.
- inactive, on 03/12/2008, -2/+15That goat is my hero.
- wakarusensei, on 03/12/2008, -0/+13Ok, is it just the animal that's animated and they added the background later? or is it just me and is this a hoax since the plants are the same plants in every frame? Why no pic of the real non animated object? here, I'll do the job for u poster.
http://www.cais-soas.com/CAIS/Images2/Pre_History/ ...
There's the real thing. Some noob animated it themselves and added their own stuff to it. Buried as inaccurate. - inactive, on 03/12/2008, -1/+12How come modern goats don't have a giant moon on their heads?
- ToadLeg, on 03/12/2008, -0/+10Don't they often collect thousands of artifacts at a time, and then process them over the next several decades? They probably just tagged it and it's been sitting in a box for the past 30 years until they took it out and examined it recently, and noticed the pattern.
- inactive, on 03/12/2008, -0/+9OMG, Wikipedia does goat porn?!
- 4d669, on 03/12/2008, -4/+13Old news. That's why the called it Macromedia Flash, Macro is an archaic word that was used to describe goats and other animals. In other words, the company that created Flash is named after this goat. This is all ***** and I just made it up.
- greenlight2001, on 03/12/2008, -1/+9This was the oldest FOUND not the oldest made. I'm sure the very first one was porn.
- dukeochutney, on 03/12/2008, -2/+9making fun of religion is always necessary
- Namco, on 03/12/2008, -0/+6Anime boy, get outta here!
- Pillage, on 03/12/2008, -1/+7The real reason behind wanting to bomb Iran, the strong Disney lobby....
- TheRealTopherG, on 03/12/2008, -0/+6VLC plays it! FTW!
- absurdist, on 03/12/2008, -0/+5If you look at the animal closely, it's not a goat. It's a Scimitar-Horned Oryx, which was very common to that area of the world. And no, I am not making this up.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scimitar-horned_oryx - inactive, on 03/12/2008, -0/+5I would've figured the first animation would've been of cavewomen stripping.
- MisterNipples, on 03/12/2008, -2/+7Fantastic! I can almost hear the comic book guy saying that!
- Anfidurl, on 03/12/2008, -0/+5Is it sad that I thought the animated .gif was going to be a "screamer", for how slow Wordpress was loading it?
- wbrooks, on 03/12/2008, -0/+5Sorry
http://www.cais-soas.com/CAIS/Images2/Pre_History/ ... - capiCrimm, on 03/12/2008, -1/+6even older then the internet?
- peterkay, on 03/12/2008, -0/+4It's not a JPG... how did they do that?
- krisscofield, on 03/12/2008, -1/+5Please go back to whatever site you came from.
- wbrooks, on 03/12/2008, -0/+4I'm calm, don't worry. Sorry if I was too direct.
Here's the actual picture of the goblet...
http://www.cais-soas.com/CAIS/Images2/Pre_History/ ...
Try spinning a top... do you see individual frames, or a blurred image?
How can the trees act as a shutter? they are attached to the goblet and spin with it.
Some people would call this a comic, not an animation. - bxblox, on 03/12/2008, -0/+4...I hope this doesnt turn into one of those threads
- WolverineBlue, on 03/12/2008, -0/+4Somehow, I think they need books first.
- Fracture98, on 03/12/2008, -0/+4The first Goat See!
- hadak, on 03/12/2008, -0/+4You're telling me it doesn't get you off?
- panpizza15, on 03/12/2008, -0/+3That was an amazing cartoon. Can't wait for the DVD box set
- mrjohnnycake, on 03/12/2008, -3/+6calm down. use your words.
- KingGorilla, on 03/12/2008, -0/+3and how!
- adooga, on 03/12/2008, -0/+3Apparently you haven't heard of a breakthrough technology we call the animated gif.
- Namco, on 03/12/2008, -0/+3When you read comics, do you wave the paper around in front of your face in a feeble attempt to animate an image?
- AdamaObama, on 03/12/2008, -1/+4Watch out, this was discovered in Iran. The Bush Administration might see this as an act of terrorism.
- Fracture98, on 03/12/2008, -1/+3Yeah. How does that go? If you don't want us to laugh, don't have such a silly religion.
- SquigglyP, on 03/12/2008, -1/+3or flipped through them really fast. Or looked at one, blinked as you brought the other one up. In this case... look at one, blink and turn the goblet, blink and turn the goblet...
Animation existed well before film, you know. Everything's gotta start somewhere. - Pillage, on 03/12/2008, -1/+3Technology is driven by sex. Now if only a flying car could get you off.....
- novenator, on 03/12/2008, -0/+2check out the venus figurines (dated 40,000-10,000 years before present roughly). the earliest are is erotic art.
