- oblique63, on 12/01/2008, -3/+96wait, seriously?...
man, ***** hollywood... can't they come up with any of their own original ideas anymore?
It seems like everything's either just a sequel, a remake, or a book adaptation nowadays... - VoidEngineer, on 12/01/2008, -3/+78Yep, it will definately be a product placement film
- apothekari, on 12/01/2008, -3/+71TETSUO!

- Niedin, on 12/01/2008, -2/+50File this next to the Spielberg/Will Smith remake of Oldboy.
- Ghoztt, on 12/01/2008, -3/+48I think the Hollyworsts' version of Dragonball proves what a retarded state our movie industry is in. Dugg for 'funny because it's true.'
There is a word for when the least fit and least qualified people in society are put in the position of power.... - Sefus, on 12/01/2008, -2/+42Oh no! No no No NO! oh god no. NOOOOOOOOO!!!!
- keyboardduder, on 12/01/2008, -0/+39(From the remastered version) CANADA!!!!!!!!!1
- fullzer0, on 12/01/2008, -1/+39Hollywood is not America. Hollywood is a beast in and of itself.
- mavranos, on 12/01/2008, -1/+32Get ready for the Hollywood ending where Kaneda saves Tetsuo, gets the girl and kills all responsible for everything while eating a Happy Meal.
- TheBaronRides, on 12/01/2008, -1/+29Actually we remade the British version, I still like both though.
- angelgabe, on 12/01/2008, -0/+26Akira is dark, trippy, gory and violent (and awesome). The girl getting her clothes ripped off and her face beaten in will never make the cut of any American version. Most of the other scenes would earn this film an R or an NC-17. The only way to make this movie profitable in the US is to make it PG-13. This can't end well for anime fans.
- Dkrainey, on 12/01/2008, -11/+36Dragonball will be horrible not because of Hollywood but because, if they are true to the cartoon, the characters are just going to stand around talking for most of the movie only to be interrupted by fight scenes that amount to nothing more than flashes and blurs. Dragonball will be crap because dragonball is crap. Sorry to all you kids out there but its true. They should make M.D. Geist a movie.
- TheFoshizzler, on 12/01/2008, -1/+26I don't think book adaptations are necessarily bad....
- imakecomments, on 12/01/2008, -6/+30http://www.d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y.com/ ffs
- Pardis, on 12/01/2008, -2/+25Seriously, everyone needs to understand that HOLLYWOOD does not ask the general public what should be made. So quit with the AMERICANS need to realize comments, it is Hollywood not Americans making the movie. And before you add well Hollywood is in America comment, yes it is but not everyone in Hollywood that is in control of the garbage that gets pumped out is American.
- inactive, on 12/01/2008, -2/+23Akira is more work of art than a commercial anime franchise, IMO. I'd rather see them put effort into something like Robotech.
- sirbeta, on 12/01/2008, -4/+24...Leonardo DeCaprio...in Akira? The hell? Is this some kind of joke?
- fuckupedoslut, on 12/01/2008, -2/+19Why an American Akira remake is a bad idea: The Ring, The Grudge, live action Dragonball etc etc.
- TrevorBelmont, on 12/01/2008, -0/+16It was already a feature length animated film in Japan in 1988. It's also widely considered to be the best anime film ever made.
Why complain? When the original is so damn near perfect the odds of the remake even approaching that level of quality is near impossible. - radicaldementia, on 12/01/2008, -0/+16I heard about this a while ago, part of me still wants to pretend it's not true. Get ready for a dumbed-down, sponsored-up, over-CGI'd "action-packed adventure for the whole family"
- SemiSarcastic, on 12/01/2008, -5/+19Tetsuo: We're a biker gang in the near-dystopian future, but we seem to be missing something.
*pause*
Everyone: A BLACK PERSON! - Internazionale, on 12/01/2008, -1/+15What are you talking about the british one was the first one
- LogicBomB, on 12/01/2008, -1/+15Dugg for Truth.
When I was under 18 I thought Dragonball(Z) was awesome. Then I took a step back, looked at the content and realised that all 300 episodes should have been compressed to maybe 50, tops. Even then, the characters are shallow, the dialog is horrible, and the animation sucks.
Besides, the only way worth watching Anime is subtitled. American voice-over "talent" is awful. All expression and feeling is lost and replaced with childish wording/tones. - ZaZ2137, on 12/01/2008, -0/+13KANEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!
- robdiggity, on 12/01/2008, -1/+14Correction: Fight scenes that last for days, consisting of flashes and blurs, but also multiple transformations, multiple exchanges of the upper hand, and at least one guy who balls up his fists, squats down real low, and grunts in an ever increasing pitch whilst he tries to push gas or something.
- awtripp, on 12/01/2008, -1/+13It'd be nice if Hollywood would just STOP remaking movies. I mean, in 10 or 20 or 30 years how many different versions of the same movie will we have? I'm sick just thinking about it.
- TrevorBelmont, on 12/01/2008, -1/+13Are you *****' trolling me? The UK "The Office" came out several years before the American one.
Jackass. - FasmTrout, on 12/01/2008, -1/+12Shia?
- Jareth86, on 12/01/2008, -0/+11I thought the movie was completely inferior to the original graphic novel, and they're making a movie of out that movie? In America?!
Jesus, this will not end well... - FrankDrebbin, on 12/01/2008, -0/+10you have to wait for the stupid people to out-breed the smart people.......oh wait...never mind
- Rhendal, on 12/01/2008, -2/+12TETSUO!
- reyoo30309, on 12/01/2008, -3/+12The Akira Light...
Because the Japanese version was too much for Americans to handle. - inactive, on 12/01/2008, -13/+22Seriously...
Americans need to realise that they don't NEED to americanize everything.
Why am I watching an anime which is based in Japan with Japanese people using Japanese saying but when it comes to money they say dollars?
STOP IT. Wankers. - Einchy, on 12/01/2008, -0/+9We watched the video, no point in quoting it.
- aenima987, on 12/01/2008, -0/+9TETSUOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!11111!!!
- mebethekoko, on 12/01/2008, -0/+9Don't encourage them with your box office dollars.
- djpray2k, on 12/01/2008, -3/+11On a kind of related note, why does America have to have their own versions of shows.
Us brits get and enjoy Fraser, Cheers, Friends the list goes on, but when British shows go stateside they have to be re-made, usualy really badly...Ab Fab, Red Dwarf, Little Britian, The Office. I'm not saying they are all bad but why can't they be appriciated for what they are?
Oh and if they go through with re-making Spaced I'll ***** a brick. - thcobbs, on 12/01/2008, -2/+10http://www.for-*****-sake.com
With this easy process, you, too, can be a dick! - inactive, on 12/01/2008, -0/+7The Idiocracy is coming.
- thcobbs, on 12/01/2008, -1/+8Come on, it can't be worse than Dungeons and Dragons, right? RIGHT?????
- CarStan, on 12/01/2008, -1/+8i have a great film idea, its called 'ASS', i believe it will win a bunch of oscars, but the world isn't ready for it yet
- WhiteMike87, on 12/01/2008, -1/+7Except in the Evangelion remake they would have Lindsey Lohan play Asuka.
- Dkrainey, on 12/01/2008, -0/+6Akira holds a special place in my heart but Eva is bad ass. I have always wanted to see that scene where Tetsuo stops that tank round and detonates it in a live action movie.
- Jeepinator, on 12/01/2008, -1/+7Man that's twice today I've been way off the mark. ***** me again.
- Asianwaste, on 12/01/2008, -0/+6HER PAAAAAAAAIN IS INSIIIIIIIIIDE MEEEEEEEEEEE!
- inactive, on 12/01/2008, -1/+6I lol'd.
I really hope you were being sarcastic about the Brits remaking The Office. Otherwise I should have buried you instead of lolling :p - cerealjynx, on 12/01/2008, -0/+5Here's to hoping they re-adapt the actual manga and we at least get a badass sequence of Tetsuo teleporting himself to the moon and blowing up a quarter of it, causing massive worldwide tsunamis.
- robdiggity, on 12/01/2008, -0/+5What was the other one? I gotta know, because I really can't think of anything as retarded as this gaff, and clearly you know of at least one other.
- kingmanic, on 12/01/2008, -0/+5In America gore is fine. They could make Tesuo as gory as possible, it'd be PG13. show a nipple and it's an R unless you grease the MPAA ratings board with enough gifts. Sexual Violence against women, NC-17.
