Using those, it makes pushed/broadcasted status updates and short blog-like entries available to just about anyone at no charge. I don't think it's for everyone, but I've enjoyed using it to keep up with the day to day lives of my friends who live in other states and countries.

(top 10 hot linux nerds, page 1, next,..... page 10). Seriously, everything could be put on a single page, but were forced to wait 30-60 seconds of banner ads loading just to read a paragraph.

      Direct linking to images can easily be fixed by the administrator. Also, directly linking to images (AKA Bandwidth stealing) was bad years ago when bandwidth was expensive, it isnt so expensive these days. I get 100 gig transfer for 10$ a month.

        So it's better to whip out my DS or listen to music on my ipod then interacting with real people?

If I had no work to do at work or was bored, I'd either ask for some work or make use of my time by doing some learning or reading something USEFUL (as opposed to reading some strangers "twits").

          As for "interacting with real people"... you're not really, are you?
