- dreman, on 10/12/2007, -5/+28Yeah, it copied "The Hardest Button to Button"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qRJ-UTBScI - pcminute, on 10/12/2007, -12/+31worst episode ever.
- gfindlay, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18"The Hardest Button to Button" music video was directed by the amazing French director Michel Gondry. He has also directed music videos for the Foo Fighters, Daft Punk, Chemical Brothers, and movie direction in Eternal Sunshine.
Hands down one of the great minds of our day. - merr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17dugg down? Oh come on, this is clearly a Simpsons reference.
- DanteDefiance, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16In the words of South Park:
"Simpson's did it"
We forget so easily that the Simpsons were the first to do many of the gags that are reused in TV today. Family Guy in many respects is just a bloody reboot of the Simpsons. - snowwrestler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15How many people bashing the Simpsons now actually watched the early episodes in-season? The show has always been hit-or-miss, the only difference is that when they show the episodes in syndication now, they skip the misses. Also a lot of the jokes took repetition to become the standards of hilarity they are now. "Worst episode ever"--not exactly a screamer at the time but a pretty funny cultural touchpoint now. The seasons aren't any worse than the old ones IMO, they're just newer and held to an impossible standard.
Plus we all know the "fanboy" mentality always goes with the new over the old. The Family Guy is new, therefore the cutting edge of cool. The Simpsons?? I think my dad used to watch that when he was a kid. Right? - UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Off-topic, I guess, but Family Guy last night was absolutely hilarious. The gag of the radio bumbers with the goofy sounds effects never wore thin for me. My roommate thought I was nuts because I was laughing so hard.
- mecole21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Go back and watch the first season... they're pretty painful to watch...
- UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Cheers for the great moment from last night's episode.
Jeers to the douche who put his logo at the beginning of the clip as if he deserves any credit whatsoever. - LucasVB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I think up to season 9 it was great. After that it just declined too much to bother watching.
Nowdays Simpsons is relying too much on celebrity cameos (like this) and the humor is surrealistic all the time (like this!)... It used to be more realistic, linear, and the surreal was kept for special occasions (like Halloween specials), and that's what made it, well, special. For me, Simpsons died since season 11...
This clip was funny, but doesn't even come close from the good old times... - Loath, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Yeah that was funny but otherwise the episode was a bit gimmicky and not particularly good last night. Family Guy got me laughing a lot more. Especially the frying pan thing.
- Manhigh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Well didnt Groening leave to do Futurama? That would explain the lack of intelligence.
Futurama has been the most intellectually funny cartoon since the Simpsons, in my opinion. I like Family Guy and ATHF too, but theyre just not as smart. - oddmanout, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7the simpsons have been around for almost 18 years now. they must be doing something right
- Misanthrope, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12yeahbut....it's NOT worth digging to the front page. It's...something that happened on TV last night. Is that what Digg becoming? "Hey guess what! Such and such did ***** on some show last night!!!"
DIGG ++!!!!!!! - UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Simpsons was still best as far as at least season 8, or at least thats my opinion after just watching that season on DVD.
Last night's episode had more musical numbers than I have ever seen on the show. It's obvious they're getting low on ideas but there still are a few episodes a year that are pretty funny (just not last night, well other than this White Stripes bit). - MyKungFu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Definitely one of the funniest Simpsons in a long time. The part that made me belly laugh was when the ghost dog appeared to Lisa, and out of nowhere blurts out "You suuuuuck."
- H3avyC, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11One of the few times I've really laughed out loud at the Simpsons in a couple of seasons. As I watched it, I thought to myself, it's a shame not enough people will understand the gag.
- tenaciousdino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I pine for the days when the Simpsons consistently provided witty social commentary, clever wordplay, and effortless parodies of just about anything. Now it seems to mostly be "ZOMG HOMER IS DUM!!!1"
- theprez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Well that's because it's from the world famous supernova17 who gets dozens of stories to the front page a week.
I don't like the conspiracy theories but there've been many stories about how a select few users get anything they submit to the front page with very few diggs. It isn't surprising anymore to see supernova17's stories on the front page.
Also look out for 3monkeys, digitalgopher, aaaz and others. :P - Rethcir, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12Remember 15 years ago when the Simpsons was the best show on TV? Seinfeld had it ***** right man, enough is enough
- UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Whatever your opinion of their music it's hard to deny that their music videos, especially Hardest Button to Button, are classic. Props to Michel Gondry.
- Sanchez, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Funny, considering how many character traits, plots and jokes Family guy stole off the simpsons.
- goofy_goober, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5My favorite white stripes video is "Fell in love with a girl" http://youtube.com/watch?v=J6TcX_TKLcg
- whiskeymb, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9saw this lastnight, great segment! was there a white stripes video that this copied (the drums repeating)
- DanteDefiance, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12Funniest moment from the Simpsons in years.
- arof, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6A full list of Gondry's video and commercial work: http://www.director-file.com/gondry/credits.html
There's also links to info about his movies. Interesting to see what he does with Beck's next video. - DyDx, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8@merr: Maybe, but pcminute is right. That episode completely sucked. Though the last several seasons haven't been as good as the first 8-10 seasons, they still were at least pretty funny. This was just bad.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I wish i had seen this before watching the simpsons.. now that part makes sense.
- Manhigh, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8The simpsons is way too formulaic these days.
1.) Minor subplot (5-10 minutes)
2.) Some result of the subplot results in the primary plot (~10 minutes)
3.) Touching moment at the end ala Full House - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5For those who watched all the shows last night on FOX
www.mywoodcock.com - adam84a, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Too bad kdubbz668 sucks
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9As funny as it might have been it would have been funnier if they didn't drag out that part. I think that joke lasted 3 minutes too long. Timing in comedy is everything
- jacobpellegren, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It's actually funny, because out of the entire show, this was the only part I caught. I thought it brilliant, especially whey they crashed into each other and then presumed with a chase. I wonder if the White Stripes falling into garbage was a metaphor from the writers? ( Personally love the White Stripes ).
- rickbauls, on 10/12/2007, -8/+12Oh how dare something worth digging get to the front page.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Too bad the rest of the episode sucked.
- Misanthrope, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I think I can taste blood!
"Well there's a lot of it."
Someone should post THAT clip and digg the F out of it. - whiskeymb, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5especially the "it tastes like my dad" part...
- IHaveIssues, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"That's a lot of blood."
- skidooer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Remember the line saying they won't stop making the Simpsons until it is no longer profitable? They can't go back on their word now.
No matter how bad the show gets, it's still significantly better than the majority of the rest. - UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yea but it was new and at the time really took the country by storm. The show would have flopped if they didn't get excellent writers and keep the amazing voice talent.
- mecole21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3wow Metallica last week, the White Stripes this week, who's the band for next week?
- UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3from seasons 2 or 3 until 8 there were very few misses... I watched them all when they were new and too many times to count since then.
I wouldn't say I am bashing the Simpsons but I do think there are only so many things they can do on the show.
The Simpsons used to at least appear to contain a level of intelligence I don't feel is there any more. When I watched seasons 4-6 I was 12-14 years old and was still able to laugh even though I knew I didn't get alot of what they were parodying. Now I re-watch and it's just as funny but I can appreciate it in another way. - bflfab, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I did this recently and was surprised how bad they really were. They focused way too much on Bart and catch phrases. Oh well, the worst Simpsons episode is still better than most of the other crap on tv.
- oddmanout, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2its funny, as i was watching, i sort of knew that clip would end up on digg
- JeremiahLBurns, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Dugg. Nearly didn't watch "Til Death", but did anyway. Brad Garrett did a fantastic job. As a guy getting married soon, I'm finding the show extremely funny on a personal level.
And no, I don't think I could talk her into a pool table either.
But that's off topic. The Simpsons, while not the shining beacon it once was, is still by far my favourite show on TV. The only show I go out of my way to watch. It's even better when sanwiched in with great shows like Family Guy...but I'd hate to see it go. I still like it too much.
At the same time, it would be awful to have it leave a bad taste in my mouth. So I hope they know when to throw the towel in...but I don't think it's time yet. I suppose as long as they have fresh ideas, I'll be happy to continue watching and buying DVD sets. - BBryan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@gfindlay
ditto...
Eternal Sunshine = awesome and i am waiting for "The Science of Sleep" - deehomsarro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@fordistumley:
"These cats don't know squat!" - Cojawfee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It seemed kind of dumb, as if they just needed to put the White Stripes in the show, so they just threw them in. I literally looked at the TV Guide info, saw the White Stripes were going to be on, closed the guide, and then the WHite Stripes showed up and left.
