- ilikechaitea, on 10/10/2008, -0/+24wrong chililili. Superman's greatest weakness isn't kriptonite, its his idealized sense of right and wrong....which is what makes him and batman such interesting opposing characters.
There's a great scene in Superman For All Seasons where he knows Lex is ***** things up, he knows it, and in the scene you see Lex in his high rise office looking through the glass wall...at superman, who's floating still, only a few meters away from lex, on the other side of the glass, looking back at lex, with his arms crossed....just floating there doing nothing, because he know he can't.....
....because even though Supa has the power to do anything he wants, and force others to do what he wants, he can't actually make other people want to do the right thing...and that's ultimately what supa wants, and no amount of superpowers can change that.
That's why Lex is such an interesting villian, he represents Free Will, plus Lex has been done horribly in all Supa movies
Check out "Red Son" for an awesome study of Supa and one if the truest Lex's I've ever seen - llbbl, on 10/09/2008, -13/+36Smallville ruined superman
- cli006, on 10/10/2008, -2/+20@Painting - Spiderman is supposed to be a bit corny, that's how Peter Parker is.
But SM3 completely killed the movie franchise for me. They destroyed the Venom story and I STILL can't get over the emo singing. *cringe*
I pray that someday, the Spiderman movies will be reborn following the Dark Knight formula. Go darker with a Symbiote movie and viola, instant gold. - AmyVernon, on 10/08/2008, -4/+15sniff.... ::teardrop::
- painting, on 10/09/2008, -5/+14smallville is more corny then all the spiderman movies combined.

- RobotBuddha, on 10/10/2008, -0/+4:(
I thought, for a second, you meant that right wing propaganda affected him like kryptonite. Like he'd be watching tv, an attack ad would come on, and then suddenly he'd be in a coma. - chililili, on 10/10/2008, -13/+17Superman is the worst superhero ever, he is too strong, fast, and has no true weakness, nor does he have a true rival or equal, he does not even have a goddamn moral code he just upholds the law and follows what's legal. Lex Luthor is far more heroic using only his intellect he is able to fend off an overpowered alien. Ultimately Superman cannot even be held to "brave" or "selfless" standards, I mean its not hard for him to fend off bullets or stop a robbery it is the equivalent of a normal person picking up a pen someone else dropped. Superman's adventures exert on him as much effort as common courtesy gestures would put on you or me.
- hoodoodave, on 10/10/2008, -0/+4When done well, he's the most compelling hero in comics. When not done well, boooooring.

Some would say he deserves it. - KyleRayner, on 10/10/2008, -1/+5Geoff Johns, returning the DC Universe back to the Silver Age one superhero at a time.
- trizzlelv, on 10/10/2008, -3/+6Superman owns lots of stock, today was definitely the worst of days.
- Burrito, on 10/10/2008, -0/+3Kryptonite isn't his only weakness and any real comic fan would know that. Thanks for playing, now STUF.
- ElectroStep, on 10/10/2008, -0/+2Yes, there's one there.
Not that it's pretty obvious from the opening lines there mgiht be a spoiler or two. - kinseyincanada, on 10/10/2008, -10/+12i like Smallville :(
- fumar, on 10/10/2008, -1/+3"That's why Lex is such an interesting villian, he represents Free Will, plus Lex has been done horribly in all Supa movies"
Here's why I hate Superman so much. Free will and free thinking should not be villains. Ever. - rpad, on 10/10/2008, -0/+2I've always thought Johns was hit or miss...and very overrated. Don't get me wrong, I like a lot of his stuff, but some of it is just okay, yet a lot of people think everything he writes is gold. I thought his run on the Flash was good, but extremely overrated and not nearly as good as Waid's. Oh well, that's just my opinion.

- palehorse864, on 10/10/2008, -1/+2Pa Kent has died before (Heck, I didn't read it and thought he was dead before this). Still, really nicely done on the scene.
- ilikechaitea, on 10/11/2008, -0/+1hey guys, agreed.....
@ fumar: maybe saying lex represent free will is a bit simplistic, but I don't think free will is the villian here. Its more that free will allows for people to make "wrong" or selfish decisions....but thats whats great about superman, he understands the importance of free will, and so thats always his conflict....
@Chilili: yeah, I agree with you about Red Son, but I think Communist Russia is used to illustrate a point about the USA too...and maybe the conflicts there...the US is far from perfect right...
anyways, I think when done right, Supa can be infinitely interesting. His overwhelming power means expectation are higher....like is something ***** up, Supa can go back in time!...but it ins't easy...and when with all that power supa still feels helpless, that's when it gets really interesting.... - shipwreck58, on 10/10/2008, -0/+1IO9's web site load time and layout suck real hard. BURIED!
- phogasmic, on 10/10/2008, -0/+1Thats the kind of storylines that the Superman movie needs if it ever hopes to compete with TDK
- danwallace, on 10/10/2008, -1/+2Was that that show with Pamela Anderson voicing the lead? I vaguely recall something like that and I also vaguely recall it being awesome.
- LordPhoenyx, on 10/10/2008, -4/+5Come on Pa has died before. Big Whoop
- KyleRayner, on 10/10/2008, -2/+3I really hate when comic stories hit front page, because then all the faux comic "fans" come out of the woodwork. "I used to read comics way back when, so Im an expert." GTFO.
Whens the last time you read a Superman comic? How about red-sun radiation and magic? Right-wing propaganda, haha! At least I have a valid reason to hate on the comic! I havent been buying it, but at least Ive been keeping up.
And lets not compare Clark and Bruce's angst level please. Clark wins that one easily. Unfortunately, many writers have already been down that road. - Saulidus, on 10/11/2008, -0/+1Invincible is still > superman
- KyleRayner, on 10/10/2008, -4/+5"Superman is the worst superhero ever, he is too strong, fast, and has no true weakness, nor does he have a true rival or equal"
Well, except for most of his rogue's gallery excluding Lex. And by your standard, Jesus is the worst hero ever right? And a blind lame pedestrian who is about to get run over is the best?
Power level =/= good hero. A weak hero doesnt always make a good story. A strong hero doesnt always make a good story. Its all about the writers. Unfortunately, Superman seems to attract the worst. - xavyre, on 10/10/2008, -0/+1My thoughts exactly. Or better yet beat death up.
- revenz, on 10/13/2008, -0/+1thats a completely different "universe", sure it has a whole bunch of crap in it (most episodes i just hang my head in shame for watching it, but i do keep watching it).
they really need to kill off most of the characters though (i was so happy when lana left, now kill chloe already!!!) - chililili, on 10/10/2008, -0/+1Already checked out Red Son before I find it to be a great comic but the problem with Superman is put in that even better he instead of growing up in the US grows in the Soviet Union, therefore his moral code becomes Stalin communism and he upholds the state at all times, he knows things are far from perfect but he still follows communism until he creates a totalitarian state which does not give room to any freedom or stepping out of line. In the end we are shown that the world Lex creates is infinitely superior with true freedom and resources for all, still I find that the Red Son Lex is a bit too different from the normal universe one.
- revenz, on 10/13/2008, -0/+1if you don't like it, don't watch it.
any show that might bring in a new reader to the comics, i say good on it. i really doubt anyone will stop reading the comics because of a tv show they dont like. - contradictator, on 10/10/2008, -0/+1Hm, I wasn't aware of this, I've been too busy with Batman R.I.P.
- cquinnd, on 10/10/2008, -0/+1Lex does not represent free will any more than Superman does. Or from another point of view, they both have free will.
They both are free to choose their paths. Lex Luthors obsession is that he has always chosen the path to abuse the power he has to gain more, without understanding why Superman would not chose to conquer the world instead of trying to save it. Superman's obsession is that he chooses to live with the principles he was raised on as Clark Kent, even when he is given countless opportunites and excuses to be more like Lex. - Punisher2K, on 10/10/2008, -0/+1Kill yourself
- Darksoul, on 10/17/2008, -0/+1Though I understand your point you are wrong him having no rival or equal for one Doomsday killed him no let me refresh he beat the living ***** out of sups. And its an understanding though nobody ever says it if the government wanted to kill him they would.
- BigRMcD, on 10/11/2008, -0/+1I guess collecting all of the kryptonite on earth and destroying it with Batman (Batman/Superman series) might have backfired for the Man of Steel. And they call the villian Brainiac. LOL
- trdrstv, on 10/10/2008, -0/+1Kingdom Come is a better study of Superman.
- jaywalker, on 10/10/2008, -0/+1Lucas and Spielberg: Hey superman, what you doin' in this neck 'a' da woods?
- fumar, on 10/10/2008, -1/+2I just hate every DC hero except Batman and the heroes from the Watchmen. Marvel FTW.
- Darksoul, on 10/17/2008, -0/+1Don't worry ackkk and jaywalker, *DARKSOUL IS HERE TO SAVE THE DAY" to the rest of you get a since of humor.
- AnthonyFTMFW, on 10/10/2008, -0/+0I shall torrent the scanlation to empathize with you.
- ackkk, on 10/10/2008, -1/+1superman looks like he is getting raped in the tn.
- bat-21, on 10/10/2008, -1/+1Why did Gary Frank make Superman look like Trent Reznor?
- cquinnd, on 10/10/2008, -1/+1Because it causes even bigger problems down the line. And he has learned the lessons from that kind of interference.
- MistrBrownstone, on 10/10/2008, -4/+4I can't help but wonder, why doesn't he just fly around the world and reverse time again? It worked awesome the first time.
- XagentofthebatX, on 10/10/2008, -0/+0This title has been one of the best books on the shelves since these guys took over. Bravo.
- diggsterrrr, on 10/10/2008, -0/+0True but every time Superman runs into someone who can give him a game, he doesn't run away.
