- GemStar38, on 11/07/2008, -2/+18He has a lot of hype to live up to. Good luck to him!
- Bigmodirty, on 11/07/2008, -2/+18The republican party Lincoln was a part of is not the same republican party of today.
- gdo01, on 11/07/2008, -2/+17"You can’t talk about solving the economic problem of the Negro without talking about billions of dollars. You can’t talk about ending the slums without first saying profit must be taken out of slums. You’re really tampering and getting on dangerous ground because you are messing with folk then. You are messing with captains of industry… Now this means that we are treading in difficult water, because it really means that we are saying that something is wrong…with capitalism… There must be a better distribution of wealth and maybe America must move toward a Democratic Socialism."
-Martin Luther King, Jr., 1966 - ohsweetwoods, on 11/07/2008, -2/+16i take issue with some of these, such as this one: http://z.about.com/d/politicalhumor/1/0/N/S/2/we-h ...
with all the severe losses for gay and women's rights and, in effect, human rights that occurred on the same day, it's hard to say that all men are officially created equal.
not to mention, we are not free of racism just because we elected a black man to the highest office in the nation. of course, it's an absolutely monumental step forward, but it doesn't necessarily represent full equality in regards to race, much less for gender or sexual orientation. - wentwhere, on 11/07/2008, -1/+14What about the 50% of the country that voted against Bush 4 years ago
Doesn't feel so good does it - luzai, on 11/07/2008, -0/+13"Global President: American mother, African father, Asian upbringing, and a Middle Eastern middle name."
I like that. - Linkin4, on 11/07/2008, -5/+18We are NOT talking about the same democrat party.

- spudhead, on 11/07/2008, -2/+13I'm going to to out on a limb here, and guess that you don't really follow history or politics all that closely with the exception of watching Fox News.
- themadrammer, on 08/18/2009, -1/+11Wow this is powerful: http://z.about.com/d/politicalhumor/1/0/M/S/2/prom ...
- FreddieD, on 11/07/2008, -2/+12A quick peek at your comment history tells me you are a very bitter person.
- xxacefirexx, on 11/07/2008, -1/+11The roles of the republican party and democratic party flipped in the early part of the 20th century. Don't be ignorant.
- Puppetx, on 11/07/2008, -1/+1045% of the US did not vote against Obama. Not even 45% of American citizens voted. Which means less than 25% of the US voted against Obama.
But way to try to spin the statistics. - ModeSeven, on 11/07/2008, -1/+9There are people in this world doing jobs they hate out of NECESSITY. It's a fact of life that some people are just dealt ***** hands from birth and there isn't a thing they can do about it. I wish I lived in the word you apparently live in where everyone is born equal and starts out on a level playing field but I was born in the real world. I honestly do hope I live to see the day where your argument makes sense and a persons lot in life genuinely is wholly due to the sum of their endeavours, but that day ain't today.
- inactive, on 11/07/2008, -0/+8I voted for the man, but shouldn't we wait and see how Obama does in the first 4 years? Blind allegiance is what kept Bush in office for 8 years.
- ModeSeven, on 11/07/2008, -2/+10@PhantomRogue
It's pretty easy to see how the US got itself into the state it's in with people like yourself in it. I'm sick of hearing this same ***** "personal responsibility" ***** being used to rationalise greed and selfishness. There is no such thing as complete independence, we all rely on each other - it's called living in a ***** society and no matter how much you may hate having to give up a ***** TINY AMOUNT of what's "yours" the fact of the matter is it's the people you're apparently willing to step over on your way to the top that keep society functioning as it should.
YOU NEED people to sweep the roads and pick up your garbage. So the way I see it, it's in your best interest to make sure the people that do can afford to keep a ***** roof over their heads, food on the table and, I dunno, pay their ***** medical bills. Amazing as it may seem, there are bigger and more important things than you and what's yours. Grow the ***** up. - bhamster, on 11/07/2008, -0/+8There wouldn't be a thing called generational poverty if it wasn't for the fact that the hands dealt to these people are extremely hard to overcome.
not everyone can be doctors, lawyers, real estate agents, dentists etc. There are going to be people that work as janitors, landscapers, painters....
if they can't pay for the neccesities like health care, or a roof over the head it than it has the possibilities of undermining our democracy. The rich need these people.
If property and wealth gets so concentrated to the top, as it has in the last 8 years revolution will eventually occur. Really the rich are lucky it was a peaceful revolution taking form in the election of Barack Obama. - bhamster, on 11/07/2008, -2/+10yes he would be furious that we a have progressed far enough, due largely to his efforts, to put a thoughtful, exceptional black man as the leader of the free world.

- mlvassallo, on 11/07/2008, -1/+8Why? MLK was the voice of Civil Rights and Lincoln was the president who championed the abolition of slavery.
Obama wouldn't be where he is today without the accomplishments of the first two. - joshhan, on 11/07/2008, -1/+7How about we see how the first 4 years go first, sparky?
- themadrammer, on 08/18/2009, -1/+7Down :(

This right here is by far, the most powerful...says a lot without saying anything. - EricSchC1, on 11/07/2008, -0/+6You know you're really stretching your argument thin, when you throw 25-100 year old mud.
- standing8, on 11/07/2008, -3/+9Another good one:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/standing8/3009903517/ - EssPii, on 11/07/2008, -1/+7Thanks, I intended it as a biting and sarcastic commentary on the Obama/McCain race. I'm glad you got it.
- dlm85, on 11/07/2008, -2/+7Now you can be anything. How true.

We're not talking about taking your earning and giving it to someone else, and I'm not saying that garbage men should make the same as doctors. You're taking my point to an extreme you know full well I didn't intend. Can you honestly not see the difference between communism and socialism?
And one last thing ""Greed" and desire are what motivate people to work and be productive.". I'm sorry but that's complete *****, people are productive because it's innate in all of us, it's what makes us great. - Thuktun, on 11/07/2008, -1/+6Plus, on a more obvious note, Lincoln was a popular lawyer/politician from Illinois.
- V0lk, on 11/08/2008, -1/+6seriously, you wing-nuts need to STFU about the "wealth redistribution" crap. It's called rolling back tax cuts that are no longer working. ALL taxation is, in effect, a redistribution of wealth. If you stopped using a 2 word sound-bite from ***** you saw on Fox News that was an excerpt from a 5 minute long explanation from Obama, you might have half a brain left.
- ModeSeven, on 11/07/2008, -0/+5edrodgers731
I respect your views, and share more than you might think, but I think it's time we looked beyond the individual and instead tried to focus on the path we all share. It's time we started thinking about the direction of the human race as a whole and try to bring the world together, something I believe only the United States is capable of. I don't know about you, but I'm in it for the species:) - EricSchC1, on 11/07/2008, -0/+451%
fixed - Ogre73, on 11/07/2008, -0/+4Seriously down with 99 diggs? Mirror?
- spvn, on 11/07/2008, -1/+5100 diggs and down it goes... This has got to be the epitome of the digg effect.
- inactive, on 11/07/2008, -0/+4i totally agree!!! - we are still moving forward, though...
- momomathew, on 11/07/2008, -0/+4So, I have to wait for a woman to be elected president before I can tell my daughter she can be anything she wants to be?
- cardyology, on 11/07/2008, -0/+4you shoulda stuck a rick roll in there too....
- inactive, on 11/07/2008, -1/+5now THAT is America...always have always will be...
- addingyears, on 11/07/2008, -0/+4I'm not so good in math, but basing the % of votes for either candidate on your analysis, and being that it was really closer to 60% that voted altogether, then only about 30% of the country voted for Obama. Doesn't sound like much. No?
- inactive, on 11/07/2008, -0/+4idiot speaks....
- mr3looc, on 11/07/2008, -0/+4Mirror anyone?
