A company is usually one organization made up of many people. When we say the name of the company, we are referring to the company, not the people, therefore we refer to it in the singular.
A high-rise building is made up of many steel girders. Do you say the name of the building as a plural? For example, Captial One Plaza ARE located downtown. That makes no sense and sounds wrong. Capital One Plaza IS downtown sounds and is correct.
