Good news and bad news.
Greg kicked himself for twenty years, thereafter. He felt like a dope
and he thought he must have really hurt the fellings of someone
that meant a lot to him. "What was *she* thinking of *me* all these
years", Greg would moan to himself as he hugged his lonely mugs
of beer.
The regrets of that day were given new life twenty years later when
he read that Claire had dug up, *in her backyard*, the largest gold nugget ever to be found in those parts, and that nugget was only the beginning!!
But unbeknownst to Greg it was the wrong Claire, something Greg
would not realize for another twenty years.
The real Claire, was not hurt AT ALL by Greg calling her "Janifer" that day on
the pier. She could not hear his words over the growl of the ship's
engines as they started up. Claire read the lips of her lover; with "Janifer"
becoming "your knee is furry" and she did an instantaneous flash-back
