- obliviousfool, on 09/02/2008, -6/+128Excellent comic. I can't believe that really happened! These are crazy times we live in.
- liquisoft, on 09/02/2008, -5/+116This comic artist clearly hates America. He has an opinion, and that's the first step towards becoming a terrorist. He also drew himself wearing a bunch of American flag-styled clothing, which is a clear indicator of a terrorist trying to pretend to be an America-lover to avoid suspicion.
- Vikaas, on 09/02/2008, -4/+112"It's not your country. It's our country."
Hell yes. - dobba, on 09/02/2008, -5/+85For all those comments that say 'wall of text, couldn't be bothered to read/I gave up' perhaps that's your problem. You DON'T read enough and simply listen to what you're told. Educate yourself.
As for the story, time to take back your country people. - salivalnz, on 09/02/2008, -5/+75People didn't get through all that text?
*****, guys - what happened to your attention span? Pick up a book from time to time. - inactive, on 09/02/2008, -12/+73NYPD is a joke.
- fuzzmeister, on 09/02/2008, -15/+75Why the hell is this a cartoon? It's essentially just a blog post.
Also, it's definitely an interesting story, but I'll need more than just this guy's friend claiming he's "mild-mannered" to believe it fully. - GordonV, on 09/02/2008, -0/+49Agreed. Flag pins (made in China), Yellow Ribbons (made in China), and dogmatic patriotic gestures all all EMPTY GESTURES.
- hardwarehank, on 09/02/2008, -9/+40Don't worry - the Civilian National Security Forces will handle those types in the future.
- noyurawk, on 09/02/2008, -0/+29Looks like the NYPD has the bad habit of lying when brutalizing innocent people. The bicyclist story and now this...
http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/07/28/polic ... - mickstephenson, on 09/02/2008, -1/+30It's starts in school doesn't it? I don't know if this is true in every state, but my friend went to America to live and go to school for 2 years, and in both Texas and Connecticut they tried to force him, a British citizen to salute the American flag and recite the pledge of allegiance everyday, along with all the other children. To me that kind of forced patriotism and indoctrination of children is completely sick, and not the actions of a free country and this was well before 911.
- Divals, on 09/02/2008, -0/+28So stick magnetic ribbons on your SUV... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmsOIjzQ1V8
- pudgypoultry, on 09/02/2008, -9/+36I dont hate my country, I just hate the general populous OF the country >___>
- b8man99, on 09/02/2008, -3/+28Nicely done.
I don't know about you, but I fear the police arresting me for nothing more than I fear a terrorist attack. - chase001, on 09/02/2008, -2/+27Patriotism is being arrogant enough to believe your country is better than all other countries just because you were born in it.
- bjornski, on 09/02/2008, -1/+24Wall of text?
You couldn't read a ***** COMIC?
Just how far down does someone have to break down information for you?
Good lord, man. Learn to ***** read and quit eating so much sugar. Your ADD is making your ***** stupid. - bjornski, on 09/02/2008, -2/+23It's over 20 words, it's TOO MUCH FOR ME TO DEAL WITH!
You people are pathetic. - kimathi, on 09/02/2008, -1/+22That comic was unamerican. I had to read for over a minute.
- robopuppy, on 09/02/2008, -2/+23It's depressing that this is a comic and people are still complaining that there's too much to read to bother with it.
- edzilla, on 09/02/2008, -0/+20I agree.
I went to high school in the US for a year, and they actually wante me to say the pledge of allegiance along with them...
I loved it there, I still have many good friends, but this is just stupid. - alittleroy101, on 09/02/2008, -0/+19@note
Just one, eh?
Apparently you've lived in a cave for the last 20 years. NYPD has put out some of the worst officers ever to serve America. - lukedamonkey, on 09/02/2008, -14/+33Most police are ***** bullies who love to wave their power around at every opportunity they get.
- BlackJacket, on 09/02/2008, -1/+20That might be nationalism actually. George Carlin once said that you shouldn't be proud to be an American. You should be happy.
Pride should be reserved for personal accomplishments. You didn't do anything to be an American citizen. You were born that way. You shouldn't be proud, but you can be happy. - Aroundtheworls, on 09/02/2008, -1/+20No video so far but there's at least one witness: http://gothamist.com/2008/08/29/witnesses_in_yanke ...
- e_mnc, on 09/02/2008, -0/+18As an Australian I wonder what would happen if I was at a US sporting event and didn't stand up, take my hat off and put my hand on my heart when the American anthem was played? I'm just asking the question because I would stand up and take my hat off out of respect.
- pixelate, on 09/02/2008, -1/+18One? I count probably two who escorted the guy out of the stadium... and then you obviously have a head ***** who released the fabricated statement.... which means this kind of thing is probably just business as usual at the NYPD.
- roodammy44, on 09/02/2008, -2/+18Yaah, too much book learnin'
It's bad fer my eyes, darnit!
Yeeehh Haw! - inactive, on 09/02/2008, -2/+18"next time I hear a quote from them [the nypd], I'll have to think twice before believing it."
This is the scariest part - the police should be trustworthy and respectable, but somehow they're turning into a bunch of overbearing bullies. The management have to stop automatically protecting their officers and start honestly considering the complaints they've accrued. - TheSeeker11, on 09/02/2008, -0/+16"My Daddy died in Korea for that flag!"
"What a coincidence, mine was made in Korea."
Bill Hicks. - tikal2k, on 09/02/2008, -0/+15I can't, the NYPD won't let me read during "God Bless America."
- ndseifi, on 09/02/2008, -6/+20I'd love to bitchslap that overzealous cop. I would also like to bitchslap anybody who claims that he was just doing his job.
- dasamps, on 09/02/2008, -2/+16Or just stop telling us you're too lazy to read.
- curtisag, on 09/02/2008, -3/+16This story reinforces my growing dislike for cops in general. They always gotta be ***** with people. And they shouldn't even be singing that song at all at a public event. Not everybody believes in God after all.
- xeic, on 09/02/2008, -0/+13I have never been in the US to compare, but they can't be worst than Europeans ones. If they are... buff!!
I know policeman who deal with drugs, abuse of their power, they are above the law, corruption,...
I see, policemen stinks all around the world. - Red1Delta, on 09/02/2008, -1/+14guantanamo bay motha fu**a
- bjornski, on 09/02/2008, -0/+13There are both types.
I wouldn't say "most" covers either side.
I've met some awesome cops. I've also met some absolutely pathetic ex-jocks who get off on the authority thing too. - dungbeetle, on 09/02/2008, -5/+17For those who pulled a tl;dr it's basically a story about a guy saying he got getting kicked out of Yankee stadium because he went to take a leak during God Bless America. The NYPD says he was drunk and causing a disturbance so they through him out. I don't like the idea that someone would be thrown out for not wanting to stay during a song they didn't care for but I also don't know how far to believe the guy either. All in all it's a complaint about the stupid post-9-11-ism ideologies this country has adopted.
- mrhedges, on 09/02/2008, -1/+13It appeals to those with ADD.
- sryan8913, on 09/02/2008, -3/+15more like patriautism at this point!
- brownsound00, on 09/02/2008, -3/+15is it because you can't read? i don't get it.
- overridemymind, on 09/02/2008, -2/+14Unfortunately, bjornski, even your comment is much too long for Brododium to bother read.
- bjornski, on 09/02/2008, -1/+12Don't you know?
That "book learnin' stuff" is ELITIST!
They're just "keepin' it real"!
REEEEEEEAL dumb. - YoctoYotta, on 09/02/2008, -0/+11It is something all of the public schools do every day across the entire country for probably at least half a century, but I imagine any mindless god-fearing unquestioning patriots are a product of their parents' indoctrination, not the pledge.
To be honest, all of the schools I went to in Washington State did such a horrible job putting any sort of context around the pledge's history, meaning, or why the thing was even recited, it was really no more than a empty exercise anyhow. Maybe more conservative areas of the country are different. Most teachers I had were respectable enough to not force anyone to recite if they didn't want to, but we still had to stand up while others were, probably more to keep order of the whole class than anything else.
There's also been fights around the country to have the "in God" part omitted since public schools are state institutes, but oddly, they haven't been successful, even with the whole "separation of church and state" thing the U.S. government has.
In either case, I can imagine how creepy it would be from an outside perspective =) - SeaFour, on 09/02/2008, -1/+12Pretty sure if they were too lazy to read a comic strip then they will be too lazy to read your post.
- ysaberi, on 09/02/2008, -2/+12We need Police reform in this country. Every day I see stories about corrupt, violent, criminal cops.
- Smuikas, on 09/02/2008, -0/+10I overheard a NYPD officer outside the Morgan stop on the L jawing into his cell phone about how his baby mama (his words, not mine) was cheating on him and how he was gonna whup her when he got home.
For srsly. - mickstephenson, on 09/02/2008, -1/+11I don't understand what people like you actually want? You don't want healthcare, do you want a police force? do you want a military? how about NASA? do you want a country at all?
I think what you really want is the wild west, and the "true justice" of Marshall Law eh? - Barackalypse, on 09/02/2008, -2/+12The problem isn't forced patriotism, its that the authorities in this country have whatever power they choose to grant themselves and you're left to try and sue them afterwards for their abuses. This is what happens when you let government get too big.
- robopuppy, on 09/02/2008, -0/+10Did you not notice the people saying that wouldn't read it even though it WAS a cartoon?
....That's the reason it's a cartoon. -
