- scootra, on 01/07/2009, -2/+81Greatest comic strip ever. This picture captures the epic awesomeness of Calvin and Hobbes:

- dzneill, on 01/07/2009, -0/+69I've been laughing at Calvin and Hobbs for as long as I can remember.
- santiago1, on 01/07/2009, -0/+53 I sometimes wonder if Bill Watterson realizes how much of an impact he's had and continues to have on so many people via Calvin and Hobbes!
- jonesyno, on 01/07/2009, -0/+44Its a shame that it only had a 10 year run, where almost every strip was memorable. . . .while that piece of garbage Garfield has been around for 30+, with awful tv series, movies, and merchandise.
- inactive, on 01/07/2009, -0/+36The best of all was the Calvin snowmen series, where the parents react to his creations.
- nickels, on 01/07/2009, -1/+28Link is mostly dead now.
The list should look like this:
1. Timeless, amazing stories
2. Fantastic artwork
3. Most of todays competition is pathetic and no where near the level of creativity seen in C&H strips.
4. The creator never sold out. Hence no C&H anything other then books.
5. He ended it too soon, leaving us forever wanting more. - Quenlin, on 01/07/2009, -4/+30This is Calvin and Hobbes, he is forgiven.
- Gr00ver, on 01/07/2009, -1/+27Calvin & Hobbes: One of the best, if not 'the' best, comics to date.
- inactive, on 01/07/2009, -0/+24Calvin is the six year old we wish we all were, while Hobbes is the friend we all wish we'd had.
- jordanisj, on 01/07/2009, -2/+24Your mom is overrated.
- Scrappy1850, on 01/07/2009, -0/+22i am too selfish. get back to work Bill!
- plaguepony, on 01/07/2009, -0/+20Calvin and Hobbs is Great not only for its quality, but for its ending. Unlike other classic strips it did not drag it self out to an ignominious end, but rather retired at its peak.
- absurdist, on 01/07/2009, -1/+19Calvin and Hobbes, unequivocal yes.
Peanuts, not so much so. - takamalak, on 01/07/2009, -2/+20Your face is overrated.
- tEhKewleSt, on 01/07/2009, -2/+19Your everything is overrated.
- melance, on 01/07/2009, -0/+17I truly miss the Far Side!
- relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -0/+16My dad would sit next to my bed and read Calvin and Hobbes to me every night when I was a little kid. So many awesome memories in that strip, I want to buy the hardcover volumes sometime.
Bill Watterson had real artistic integrity -- quality art, top-notch writing, and he carried it as far as it could go before he knew when to call it quits. He never turned it into his personal cash cow and let it rot like his contemporary Jim Davis did with Garfield. - stevieraveon, on 01/07/2009, -0/+16http://biessman.com/calvinAndHobbes.html
- AndrewJC, on 01/07/2009, -0/+15My favorite was always the Snowman House of Horrors. God, Watterson had a wacky streak.
- num1k, on 01/07/2009, -0/+14Calvin and Hobbes was one of the bright spots on my childhood. I miss new strips dearly. I own all of the collections that I am aware exist and can't wait to share them with my sons when they are old enough. We miss you Bill!
- adiggityam, on 01/07/2009, -0/+14I'm smarter for having grown up with that comic. <3

I love C&H.
I hate MrBabyMan. - wiihuck, on 01/07/2009, -0/+11How dare you talk about Hobbes like that. For shame.
- Sherman901, on 01/07/2009, -0/+11that's sad...
- AYork, on 01/07/2009, -0/+11ACK! PHHHPPPT!
- Smaulz, on 01/07/2009, -0/+11Same here. Between C&H and Bloom County, I didn't get a lot of homework done. BTW, I got this for Christmas:

My wife rules. - Quenlin, on 01/07/2009, -0/+10Calvin and Hobbes is simply the greatest comic ever bestowed on mankind. Long Live Bill Watterson.
- lovek, on 01/07/2009, -0/+10It's called quitting while you're ahead.
- inactive, on 01/07/2009, -1/+10It was good artwork mixed with creativity, good lessons and hilarity. Reading it is like four kicks in the balls; more comic artists need to follow his example.
- TravelBizMaster, on 01/07/2009, -2/+11Just like Peanuts, we all love C&H. They take us back to simpler times.
- roedood, on 01/07/2009, -1/+10love calvin and hobbes. like i did "Bloom County" for anyone going waaaay back. like "Far Side" back
- serif69, on 01/07/2009, -0/+8kat fud ----->
- Khoji, on 01/07/2009, -0/+8Bill should come out of retirement to write and draw one more sequence, just one: The Noodle Incident. Please Bill, PLEEEEAAASSSEEEE??????!!!
- ncc74656m, on 01/07/2009, -0/+8Official pronouncement: You are not human if you do not enjoy Calvin and Hobbes.
- airrore, on 01/07/2009, -0/+8It's so rare that something can be so genuine and honest and be so broad and universal in its appeal.
I miss C&H greatly. - elhaf, on 01/07/2009, -0/+8Just got my 3-volume complete Calvin and Hobbes for Christmas. Haven't finished it yet.
- chewbacca77, on 01/07/2009, -1/+8Apparently, you haven't read it enough.
- Mujokan, on 01/07/2009, -0/+7Apologies for replying to myself, but I kind of see the inevitable realization that awaits Calvin in his future as possibly something that Bill Watterson was deliberately trying to get across. Calvin shouldn't stay in his own world forever. He will have to give up his attachment to fantasy at some point. That tension between the world as we wish it was and the world as it is is a source of tragedy -- the Buddhist precept "life is suffering" comes to mind. Where do you find the balance between responsibility and imagination? (This is also a theme you find in e.g. Seth Rogen or Jack Black movies.) Maybe this is one reason why C&H appeals to diggers so much? I know I post here often as a way of procrastinating. That dark side of C&H, even if it is usually just implied, should be acknowledged.
- Mujokan, on 01/07/2009, -0/+7You had to be quick. Top of front page with 10 comments.
- octopusorgans, on 01/07/2009, -0/+7i own all of the calvin and hobbes books and never tire of them. they are by far the best pieces of simultaneous literature and art ever committed to a newspaper. there is so much rampid creativity and mischief and theorizing that it can't help but transport any lucky reader to the days of their adolescence when life's most complicated themes and mysteries were to be mused about; not worried about or feared. Bill Watterson is truly one of the greatest american artists. and yes, the "attack of the deranged mutant killer monster snow goons" was one of the best series. my favorite book is either that or "there's treasure everywhere".
- robbob, on 01/07/2009, -0/+7Those pissing Calvin decals ruined it for me
- inactive, on 01/07/2009, -0/+6Because C+H is more than entertainment, it's art.
- MrSchler, on 01/07/2009, -1/+7dugg for reminding me of calvin and hobbes
I haven't read the article and don't need to... - nthitz, on 01/07/2009, -1/+7mirror: http://rorr.im
- lukemit, on 01/07/2009, -0/+6I would beg to differ. I believe that reading C&H is profoundly better than getting kicked in the balls.
- Mujokan, on 01/07/2009, -0/+5I don't really want to know which of you was nude...
- mustache, on 01/07/2009, -0/+5LOVED Calvin and Hobbs. I still remember the day the last comic ran. I had my mom buy 5 newspapers that day. They're probably in a closet now somewhere, sad.
