- twatwaffler, on 05/30/2008, -6/+385I am horrible when it comes to remembering my dreams. I have even attempted to do that thing where you keep pen and paper near your bed and write down notes as soon as you wake up, but it never works. Every time I've gone back to look at it later, it's always a bunch of random crap like, “cat gone, sun, turnips, blazing saddles and monkey men, adam says rocks have fingers.” I never was good at taking notes in school either. :
- jakash, on 05/30/2008, -24/+357It's great to see an XKCD everyone can relate to from time to time... This one actually deserves to make the front page.
- cesclaveria, on 05/30/2008, -5/+227Has ever happened to anyone, that while dreaming you have a completly different life on your dream? with different people on your life and different memories? It feels really weird when you wake up, its like you just lost something you never had.
- dvicklund, on 05/30/2008, -14/+232How about we talk about the comic for once? Like how that happens to me EVERY DAMN MORNING as well.
I can remember exactly three dreams and I could tell you every little detail about them. Every detail, however, is probably wrong because since I've run those three over and over in my head they're completely faded by now. - Uroboric, on 05/30/2008, -5/+146XKCD has ruined my experience with other webcomics.
For example, I was just reading the latest Penny-Arcade strip and instinctively hovered my cursor over the comic expecting some additional witty commentary... - dvicklund, on 05/30/2008, -0/+60Best example of that is the strip about the synchronized turn signals. I obsess about that almost every time I see a couple of cars turning. If I ever saw anyone with signals exactly synced with mine, I'd freak out, too.
- WCL23, on 05/30/2008, -1/+54All aboard the fail train.
- revjustin2, on 05/30/2008, -1/+53Suddenly my whole life has just come into perspective. Thank you.
- itbescott, on 05/30/2008, -2/+52That's a quote from the Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis in the book "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader". It's referring to a story that Lucy reads and loves but can't remember. Great books, all of them.
- Smashery, on 05/30/2008, -1/+48Talk about the comic? But this is Digg! We're not allowed to! I'm sure it's somewhere in our code of conduct that every comment surrounding a ZP/XKCD submission has to consist solely of whining about the fact that it always hits the front page!
Seriously, though, I love how Randall can turn something so mundane and everyday into an incredibly clever comic. It's like he's inside my head! - tschau, on 05/30/2008, -0/+41I used to watch for that every day (when I drove more). I'd also get into counting how many flashes would pass until we were briefly in sync for a few. Oh, the low-level OCD that we all share.
- Natnie, on 05/30/2008, -2/+40Yeah. Last night I dreamed I was a grisly old man with stubble that came into peoples' lives and gave them amazing business advice in exchange for use of their toilet. Um. Maybe I am better off forgetting that one.
- roebeet, on 05/30/2008, -0/+38It's called "lucid dreaming" and you can allegedly control this better, with practice.
As for what I think about doing when this happens to me... let's just say it's not about stealing cars... - josereyes0, on 05/30/2008, -1/+37I wish I could bury you twice.
- stopsucking, on 05/30/2008, -0/+34Yes yes yes! All the time with me. The strangest part are the completely different memories. I'll be in a different place (house, town) with different people I have never met while awake, and it is all very normal. Not like being there and saying "what the hell am I doing here?!" but actually experiencing something in this completely different setting. Hard to explain...as all dreams really are...
- alpha19, on 05/30/2008, -1/+33Can anyone else, once in a while, actually control their dreams? It's like you almost wake up... but realize you are in a dream and then you start controlling what you do in it. Since it's a dream, you can get away with anything too... like stealing a sweet car. I usually fall down or something when I'm trying to run to the car though...
- baylat, on 05/30/2008, -27/+54"There was something about a cup and a sword and a green hill..."
- empirenine, on 05/30/2008, -3/+29"There was something about a cup, and 2 girls..."
- dvicklund, on 05/30/2008, -2/+28You, my friend, are dirty, filthy, refreshing brigand.
- blackhole82, on 05/30/2008, -1/+25there are some dreams that I can remember for years
- tschau, on 05/30/2008, -1/+25Thanks for sharing that... that's cool.
- Koush, on 05/30/2008, -5/+28I usually forget my dream as soon as i step out my bed...
cept those....espically weird ones that make no sense. - luke374, on 05/30/2008, -1/+23http://thingsididlastnight.com/
- EserVerx, on 05/30/2008, -0/+22That sucks, alot of my friends are like that too. I, on the other hand, remember my dreams in great detail and achieve lucidity with ease.
About a month ago I had a lucid dream in which I was ironman. (before the movie was out.) It was the most epic dream I have ever had.
Heres the wiki for lucid dreams. It may help you out.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucid_dreams
Try doing alot of reality testing, to where it becomes a habit in your everyday life. This way when you dream you will habitually test reality and hopefully pop into awareness inside your dream.
Although not directly related, you should watch Waking Life. Great movie, and theres a part about reality testing in it. - drakenlot, on 05/30/2008, -0/+22My favourite has to be:
http://xkcd.com/207/
I do that all the time for long lights - Aikidi, on 05/30/2008, -0/+21yeah, i can do that in the early morning. like...i know im awake but i want the dream to keep going. I get ***** pissed when people wake me, cause i almost instantly forget everything afterward.
- blindmonkey, on 05/30/2008, -0/+20My favorite's the floor tile one. Happens all the time.
I'm not walking funny...
http://xkcd.com/245/ - CharlesDance, on 05/30/2008, -1/+20It's called lucid dreaming. I can do it about 4 times a week. Ask yourself when you are awake whether or not you are dreaming, then look at a digital clock. Check the clock again seconds later and see if it the same time or whether you can read the numbers clearly. Do this about once an hour throughout the day and when you ask yourself whether or not you are dreaming take it seriously. Then when you are in a dream, you will do the same thing but instead of saying "no i'm awake" you will realize you're in a dream and you can do what you want. If you get too excited and can feel yourself coming out of it look at your hands until you feel you have control and just carry on.
That's how i got started anyway. Also if you really want to do it, set your alarm a couple of hours earlier then go back to sleep. - Rikkochet, on 05/30/2008, -2/+20They should have a rule instead where the description has to describe what the linked content is more or less about, and the thumbnail is an image on the linked content as closely related to the spirit of the content as possible. That would be sweet.
- Laminarcissus, on 05/30/2008, -0/+18WHY DON'T WE TALK ABOUT THE FACT THAT EVERY DAY I SUBMIT THE NEW MARMADUKE AND IT NEVER MAKES THE FRONT PAGE.
- melonhedd, on 05/30/2008, -25/+43http://www.*****.com/
- Kauzman01, on 05/30/2008, -0/+17My friend had the music on her iPod running through her speakers the other day and a song came on and was EXACTLY synchronized with her turn signal. It was one of the cooler experiences I've ever had with turn signals.
- cesclaveria, on 05/30/2008, -0/+17The on that really got me was about he dreaming about a girl that says to him, "don't wake up, if you wake up I die" or something like that. That happened to me once, all the people on my dream did not wanted me to wake up, because they would no longer exist.
http://xkcd.com/390/ - dubloe7, on 05/30/2008, -0/+17I once fell asleep while typing, evidently I kept typing, I was just typing gibberish. whole words, spaces, and everything, but no more than 3 words could connect into a workable phrase.
- Impeller, on 05/30/2008, -2/+19They are called wet dreams... google it.
- jr93087, on 05/30/2008, -2/+18The Rocketeer? anyone?
- moxley, on 05/30/2008, -0/+16Everytime that happens to me (lucid dreaming, which isn't very often) there are only three or four things I do:
First, initially when I realize I am dreaming I do something impulsive to "check" my omnipotence and unlimited power in the dream. Usually I jump into the air and fly, or throw my arm out in front of my and shoot bolts of energy or use ESP to move something ..***** like that.,
Once that happens and I realize I can do anything or make anything happen I usually conjure girls and and incredible setting and well...you know. - lacreme, on 05/30/2008, -0/+16you've become very environmentally aware so you ride tricycles instead of driving a car because you're afraid that mother nature will ***** your ***** up.
- makemoneynotart, on 05/30/2008, -4/+20This just occurred to me 3 hours ago. Why couldn't I have forgotten to leave the hot girl with the blue-hair and clown makeup out of the dream and saved myself an entire pointless argument with the girlfriend.
Every damn morning indeed. - porkdanish, on 05/30/2008, -1/+16Did you wake up sticky and with a sore ass?
That wasn't a dream. - abusive, on 05/30/2008, -2/+16Do not care.
- NeoNcP, on 05/30/2008, -8/+21so true
- Hypermarkalan, on 05/30/2008, -0/+12Was it a dream where you see yourself standing in sort of sun-god robes on a pyramid with a thousand naked women screaming and throwing little pickles at you?
- r00tus3r, on 05/30/2008, -0/+12That's actually the first thing I thought of when I saw this. "Wow, I hope this makes it on digg.". But I sure as hell wasn't gonna be the guy to submit it and get blasted.
Seriously tho, it's weird how when you wake up the dream is so vivid, and then, you go to tell your girlfriend about it, and you suddenly can't remember a single thing that happened. Sometimes, I think it's because our dreams are so illogical, our conscious mind can't express them. - ronintetsuro, on 05/30/2008, -0/+12I've had dreams where I lived out the next 20 or so years of my life in one night and then woke up totally shocked to be two decades younger and unsure of what's real.
- sovietninja, on 05/30/2008, -0/+11...part of the Matrix which blurs the line between, what is real and what is fantasy?
- djm101, on 05/30/2008, -6/+17Buried as ***** troll comment. *****.
- inactive, on 05/30/2008, -0/+11*corrects the exaggeration, saying it's only 3 days a week*
*Promply buried by everyone else* - Tyrghast, on 05/30/2008, -1/+12I'd rather congratulate tian2992 on winning the XKCD Front Page lottery.
- Doomsan, on 05/30/2008, -1/+11that's why yo should write your dreams down (at least i do it), you'll be amazed by the amount of crap that you dream about!
BTW, this is the first xkcd submission that i digg, because i can relate to it. -
