- anagoge, on 12/26/2008, -0/+23Awesome parody of The Snowman: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=xfiqrkV_ZqI
- feezus, on 12/26/2008, -0/+17Now all I need to do is get a copy of Where the Wild Things Are and my childhood recreation simulator will be ready.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BupLNw1qeoo - d2002, on 12/27/2008, -0/+7Try to watch the video via the Youtube link instead of the Digg embedded video. The Digg embedding kills the time tag I put on the video, which should take you to the best part of the video:

Most animation from the pre CGI days didn't involve "moving cameras" or changing perspective, etc... This appears to have been done in colored pencil or watercolors or a combination of them. One of the byproducts of an animated film like this is a huge stack of original pieces of handmade artwork. Really nice stuff.
- borez, on 12/27/2008, -0/+6Arrrr the childhood memories.
- LucasVB, on 12/27/2008, -0/+5You know, I still don't get why the hell the Snowman should be able to fly.
- PsychoDesigns, on 12/27/2008, -3/+7Flying != "Walking in the Air"
- ShyGuy91284, on 12/27/2008, -0/+4I remember that from when I was a kid. I didn't think it was all that well known.
- sessyman, on 12/27/2008, -0/+4Man, the creators of that must've been on some goooooood drugs.
- championchap, on 12/27/2008, -0/+3Everyone took the piss out of him for singing that song too.
All the way through school he got ***** for it. - MRAS, on 12/27/2008, -0/+3The Song is called "Walking in the Air"
FYI - GlitchEnzo, on 12/28/2008, -0/+2Only for the UK version. The US version has an intro with the original author. (I own the US DVD.)
- hoowahman, on 12/27/2008, -0/+2Oh wow I use to play this on the piano when younger. Good song for beginners
- intro211, on 12/28/2008, -0/+2we all are..
- inactive, on 12/27/2008, -0/+2I was surprised when I found the DVD of this in a Office Max.
Anyway - it's on DVD now: http://www.amazon.com/Raymond-Briggs-Snowman-Peter ... - inactive, on 12/28/2008, -0/+2I'm equally, thoroughly confused.
- vivvivtzz, on 12/27/2008, -4/+6Superman I and Lois Lane would like to have a word with the producers.
- wellsad1, on 12/27/2008, -0/+2I had an old VHS copy of this recorded off of PBS some 25 years ago. Must have watched it a few hundred times, wearing it out to the point where you cant see through the static. Glad to see it back on the internets and that i wasnt the only one who loved it. I think I even have the book and a stuffed snowman in a box somewhere.... and cheers to David Bowie
- RBobby, on 12/27/2008, -0/+2I always loved that cartoon as a kid. Great animation as well.
- championchap, on 12/27/2008, -2/+4That it's just after Christmas?
Yes, I think you must be. - wyrdness, on 12/27/2008, -0/+2There was a superb spoof of this made a year or two ago. It's an advert for the Scottish soft drink 'Irn-Bru' - pronounced 'Iron Brew'. This version features many famous Scottish landmarks.
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=MZT1cwBGJNE
BTW, Irn-Bru is a great hangover remedy. - macmcraeart, on 12/26/2008, -2/+4bowie ftw. amazing animation.
- wastelander, on 12/27/2008, -1/+3Doesn't compare to this classic:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uexTqnlMbXg - haikuFU, on 12/27/2008, -0/+2Wasn't there a couple of spoofs on this? I seem to remember a commercial for some sort of soda that recreated this. And, there was another one where the snowman dropped the kid. Come to think of it, it might have been the same video.
- Ighuc, on 12/27/2008, -0/+2This was my favorite Christmas movie as a child, I still love the animation and the song. For being 26 years ago, it's amazing that its a far better Christmas movie than anything else released in the last decade.
- stevenbrown, on 12/27/2008, -0/+2That reminds me, Christopher The Christmas Tree was on tv yesterday. They cut out the part where they light him on fire. lol
- killscreenes, on 12/27/2008, -3/+4Oh of course, flying snowmen, that makes sense.
- borez, on 12/27/2008, -0/+1I think he means the fact that Bowie did the intro.
- inactive, on 12/27/2008, -1/+2Aled Jones was one ugly kid.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDh_L9JU5dQ - inactive, on 12/27/2008, -3/+4HE'S GOING TO FLY RIGHT INTO THOSE HOUSES, SHOOT HIM DOWN!
- ciaran036, on 12/27/2008, -0/+1not bad.
- theexitwound, on 12/27/2008, -1/+2I love computer animation and what it's done for expression, but no one puts the time into a project as much as this one probably took.
- ldbjr, on 12/27/2008, -0/+1http://www.amazon.com/Stories-Maurice-Scholastic-S ...
This is a French production, very little animation, mostly just using the book as a storyboard. It has In the Night Kitchen also. Well worth watching.
I'm glad this Snowman vid was posted, I'd never heard of it before. Just downloaded an avi version off the newgroups and watched with my granddaughter. Very cool. - whathappened, on 12/29/2008, -0/+1I think you have to be british to appreciate this.
- RISwampyankee, on 12/28/2008, -0/+1Yes, cheers to David Bowie. Thanks for posting. My holiday is now complete.
- OgmoJump, on 12/27/2008, -0/+1milk it!

- inactive, on 12/27/2008, -0/+0He's not ugly. His mouth is just detached from the rest of his body.
- zapwai, on 12/28/2008, -0/+0It's available on DVD as well. I bought it last year sometime as soon as I heard. (My VHS copy is worn out as well.)
- alexhays, on 12/30/2008, -0/+0i prefer a more modern touch
