10 Most Twisted Animated TV Shows
tv.popcrunch.com — There have been a lot of great TV cartoon series over the decades, but only a few deserve the moniker of “twisted.” Here are our choices for the ten most twisted cartoons on American TV.

- AnimalAffinity, on 01/24/2008, -2/+68Oh Ren and Stimpy...I miss you so. Totally twisted.
- banido, on 01/24/2008, -1/+14Happy Happy Joy Joy
- yfguitarist, on 01/24/2008, -0/+11If Ren & Stimpy hadn't been on the list, it would've been buried as inaccurate. Truly the most demented, sadistic, edgy "kids" show ever. I love it.
- Courroux, on 01/24/2008, -0/+0Yay for Yak shaving day!
- 5urr3al5am, on 01/24/2008, -8/+1The only one really worth watching is South Park.. well most of the time.. because of its plots.. the other ones are mostly are just 'see what I can get away with' garbage and are not funny.
- mindsnare, on 01/24/2008, -1/+5took the words right outta my mouth yfguitarist. Ren & Stimpy are the basis for pretty much every single Nickelodeon cartoon. It's first 2 seasons were amazing. Until Nickelodeon fired the creator John Kricfalusi, then it just turned into another kids cartoon. Ever since then I have always had a chip on my shoulder about any other Nickelodeon cartoon.
If you can find the first 2 seasons of Ren & Stimpy on a torrent site, do yourself a favour and get downloading, it's awesome stuff.- zwaldowski, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1Don't worry about that chip. Nickelodeon has systematically raped every good show it's had, either by ruining it, pushing it too much, or just killing it.
- YamiJim, on 01/24/2008, -4/+123094209420402348 times better then sponge bob suck pants.
- TheUngod, on 01/24/2008, -0/+6Would you like to buy a rubber neeple?
- ChzPlz, on 01/24/2008, -0/+5Call the police..............
- SpectralSounds, on 01/24/2008, -1/+5Space Madness was definitely one of the best episodes of all time.
- diktator279, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2My beloved ice cream bar
- gmprunner, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2I loved Ren & Stimpey as a kid. When I was 7, I had episodes on tape that I would watch over and over and over.
I did, however, hate Space Ghost. - fluidfoundation, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2No sir, I don't like it.
- debng, on 01/24/2008, -26/+1Very cool list, but no Simpsons?
- yohnstoppable, on 01/24/2008, -0/+14I wouldn't really consider Simpsons to be all that twisted. Especially when compared to the close-ups in Ren and Stimpy. Some of those took years off my life
- riskybeats, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4If thats twisted then Ren And Stimpy must be the direct work of satan.
- craineum, on 01/24/2008, -1/+43Powder Toast Man, how I miss your backassward flying.
- blackbeardtron, on 01/24/2008, -2/+3STARE DEEP INTO THE NIPPLES OF THE FUTURE!!!
- Xeran, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1Wrong show
- bagboyrebel, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4good show, but that's not from Ren and Stimpy it's from Rocko's modern Life
- licoricewhip, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2Spine tingling toast!
- piXelatedEmpire, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1Pooooowdered Toooooast Maaaaan!!!
- blackbeardtron, on 01/24/2008, -2/+3STARE DEEP INTO THE NIPPLES OF THE FUTURE!!!
- Boshow, on 01/24/2008, -6/+88Drawn together may be twisted, but it still sucks. It jumped the shark in the first 10 minutes of the show. There are a bunch of shows on adult swim that should be on here. Namely metalocolypse, 12 oz. mouse, and squidbillies
- yohnstoppable, on 01/24/2008, -1/+6I know you might not belive this, but the show has actually gotten even WORSE. I was bored the other day, and watched the drawn together babies episode. Wow, was it bad. The fact this show isn't cancelled yet is a severe blow to humanity
- TheUngod, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2Not to mention the sadly unknown and underrated "The Brothers Grunt." If anyone can find episodes of that I would kill to watch it again.
- Kronos6948, on 01/24/2008, -1/+13What about the Oblongs? The show revolved around the daily life of a family with physical deformities due to toxic waste and them being too poor to move away. Will Ferrell played the dad in that show. I loved it.
- gravylookout, on 01/24/2008, -2/+4If you've never watched the entire 12 oz Mouse series you are missing out. It'll be tough, there will be time where you have no idea what is going on at all, but its worth it to stick it out till the end. One of the most intelligent animations ever made.
12 oz Mouse FTW!!!- brand0con, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2agreed 100% unfortunately the show is over and few will ever realize the masterpiece that it was.
- Scottamus, on 01/26/2008, -0/+1You two can't be serious.
- antiorblkflag9, on 01/24/2008, -3/+5Most Adult Swim shows are fairly horrible. They are all trying to cash in on the random humor started by ATHF. Drawn Together sucks as well.
- dafragsta, on 01/24/2008, -1/+7MOST, but there are some gems. Harvey Birdman, Sealab 2021, Venture Brothers, Metalocalypse. It's still been a second renaissance for cartoons on Adult Swim. The bad ones like the Oblongs find their way to the dumpster sooner or later. It's still has some good stuff.
- antiorblkflag9, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2While I agree with Venture Brothers and Harvey Birdman, I cannot agree with Sealab and Metalocalypse. I especially disagree with your Oblongs comment. That show was fantastic.
- bagboyrebel, on 01/24/2008, -0/+7I love Metalocolypse but I could never sit through a whole episode of squidbillies.
- dafragsta, on 01/24/2008, -1/+3Metalocalypose is the best cartoon of all time! The list is also incomplete without Sealab 2021.
- 6Pounder, on 01/24/2008, -0/+0I used to watch Sealab 2021 all the time. Does it come on anymore?
- cannonball, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2I know its not American, but FLCL has some of the coolest yet craziest animation I have ever seen. Completely Brilliant.
- Nickbc87, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1I DO COCAINE!!!!
- Scottamus, on 01/26/2008, -0/+1we know.
- Scottamus, on 01/26/2008, -0/+1Lucy: Daughter of the Devil: Awesome
Frisky Dingo: Mostly Awesome
However death note is far more twisted overall but not really in a funny way.
And what about Family Guy? How can that not be called twisted. Peter had a 5 minute epic battle with a guy in a chicken suit! Twice! Or when Brian owed Stewie money and he popped a cap in his leg for being late.
- blackdrivel, on 01/24/2008, -10/+4If Ren and Stimpy are twisted then I'm twisted too
- NeoMatrixJR, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4nobody is opposing this....
- Gravey9, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1LOL I like how he's "putting his foot down" on the matter as if someone is even, like neo said opposing the issue.
- jimmy89, on 01/24/2008, -4/+51Invader Zim baby ...
- geniusNOTatWORK, on 01/24/2008, -1/+8I miss Invader Zim so much. The Wettening, Postulio, that episode where Zim becomes friends with Keef... yeah, Jhonen Vasquez is ***** crazy. Has anyone read Johnny the Homicidal Maniac? good old crazy, demented humor
- SurrealDream, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1JTHM is ***** odd...I have it :)
Personally I love the "Meanwhiles" in his other book "Squee". The one where the dude goes on a date and has massive diarrhea is brilliant.
- SurrealDream, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1JTHM is ***** odd...I have it :)
- Nerfdude, on 01/24/2008, -6/+5if hot topic sells the shirts, it must be great, right?
/sarcasm- cheesecake42, on 01/24/2008, -0/+9i hate all that hot topic crap but somebody made me sit down and watch invader zim about a year ago and i am now proud owner of the entire series. I kinda feel bad for making fun of that kid in college for watching it.
- bagboyrebel, on 01/24/2008, -0/+7just because hot topic sells something doesn't mean that only the people who shop there will like it. I've seen simpsons stuff and video game stuff there(from the outside, I refuse to step foot into that store).
- Velirno, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1I'd digg ya down but I understand the resentment. I actually just like the show and everything else Jhonen Vasquez has done just because of how messed up he can be and yet be intelligent. Hot Topic, however, just so happens to be where all the little kiddies go to find out what the anti-social movement of the week is...
- irockyouall, on 01/26/2008, -1/+1yeah its a good show but i though the same thing...
all the other peeps replying need chilax, i caught that it was a joke.
- blackbeardtron, on 01/24/2008, -0/+5OUCH!! My squeedly-spooch!!!
- Terr01, on 01/24/2008, -0/+7I'd rank it above Futurama. While Futurama has perhaps more audible gags e.g. Soylent Cola, Invade Zim had a far more thematic twistedness that came out in all the environments.
Futurama's essential presentation of the world was: "The more things change, the more they stay the same, with funny exceptions".
Invader Zim's essential presentation of the world was: "Everyone is stupid. Everything is ugly or annoyingly cute."
I consider the latter more "twisted". The former is just funny, the latter is cruel.

- mysteryhead, on 01/24/2008, -9/+76Buried... because I HATE 'Drawn Together.'
- bcnl, on 01/24/2008, -16/+3Fool! That was and probably still is one of my favorite cartoons.
- random19, on 01/24/2008, -0/+15Yeah that show is terrible. And I don't really see how Futurama is that "twisted".
- merper, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1How many suicide booths in your neighborhood?
- Nickbc87, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1Well, Fry DID travel back in time and have sex with his own grandmother, effectively becoming his grandfather!
*EDIT* Opps, meant to reply to random19.

- merper, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1How many suicide booths in your neighborhood?
- MasterGrief, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2How anyone can like such a stupid and juvenile show is beyond me. This list is awful.
- PunkRockRalph, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3drawn together never ceases to astound me with the fact that there is at least one person somewhere enjoying it.
to find drawn together funny or twisted, you must have the intellect of a retarded bag of retard *****.
there were a couple good entries on the list, invader zim should have been high up though. better luck next time.

- JAGUART, on 01/24/2008, -1/+4Unfortunately, that great show jumped the shark after Harry Goz (Hank Murphy) died. Oddly, his son Michael Goz replaced him in the form of Tornado Shanks.
- random19, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1Umm...jumped the shark? I'm definately not going to make the claim that the show was *as good* as it was before Murphy died, but it was still freaking hilarious. Sharko? Isla de Chupacabra? Did you miss those episodes?

- Yeknom, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2Aqua Teen Hunger Force was the best comedic show on adult swim. Bebop takes the action category.

- holdie, on 01/24/2008, -1/+52Rocko's Modern Life
Courage the Cowardly Dog
There's a difference between twisted just for shock value and cheap laughs (ie Drawn Together) and twisted as an artistic style (eg Ren and Stimpy)- itsthebrod, on 01/24/2008, -3/+7Rocko's, while entertaining and one of my long-time favs, could in no way be described as "twisted."
- yfguitarist, on 01/24/2008, -0/+9Strongly disagree. It was twisted for its time as far as kids shows went. Ever see the one where Hefer is "milked"?
- Tyrghast, on 01/24/2008, -0/+9Courage the cowardly dog has had some trippy episodes man, and some downright creepy
- theRIAA, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1ren and stimpy =1
courage the cowardly dog =2
south park shouldent be in there, and drqwn together is just retarded
- itsthebrod, on 01/24/2008, -3/+7Rocko's, while entertaining and one of my long-time favs, could in no way be described as "twisted."
- banido, on 01/24/2008, -2/+51Happy Tree Friends
- slimkevi, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4For real... how did that not make it on this list?? It's one of the most morbidly awesome cartoons ever created.
- kaelyiesta, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2I sing along with the intro.
- goreyend, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3not the biggest fan of this show but it would make more sense than some of these shows
- dafragsta, on 01/24/2008, -1/+2Ill Will Press!
/foamy card in pocket.
- bedouin, on 01/24/2008, -4/+38Drawn together should have been canceled the same hour it first aired.
- gquaglia, on 01/24/2008, -5/+31South Park should have been #1. Nothing is more twisted then when Mr Slave shoved Paris Hilton up his ass.
- yohnstoppable, on 01/24/2008, -1/+34What rolls down stairs alone or in pairs
Rolls over your neighbor's dog?
What's great for a snack and fits on your back?
It's Log, Log, Log!
It's Log, Log, it's big, it's heavy, it's wood.
It's Log, Log, it's better than bad, it's good!
Everyone wants a log! You're gonna love it, Log!
Come on and get your log! Everyone needs a Log!- appletoapple, on 01/24/2008, -1/+1Ahhh, you beat me to it!
- hierophantus, on 01/24/2008, -5/+27Drawn Together is boring and annoying, not "twisted." In fact, it is boring and annoying because it fails at being "twisted."
- dickdelish, on 01/24/2008, -8/+14What the hell? Venture Brothers tops ALL of those without breaking a sweat. Someone tell the tard that wrote this to do a little research before going and making a list of shows without considering the lesser known ones. There are about 20 less popular cartoons on adult swim that are far more ridiculous than those on this list.
- Asvetic, on 01/24/2008, -1/+2That's why top 10 lists suck, it's completely biased to the writer, not the readers. However, this scad should burn in the fires of a thousand hells for excluding Venture Bros... it's just not done.
- kaelyiesta, on 01/24/2008, -1/+6I wouldn't call Venture Bros twisted. Although it has its moments, for the most part its just damn funny.
- Asvetic, on 01/24/2008, -2/+2Need I remind you of the episode where Dr. Venture was turned into a giant maggot?
- brand0con, on 01/24/2008, -0/+112 oz mouse would easily make the list had the author ventured into obscure adult swim shows
- Ludwig, on 01/24/2008, -2/+25I AM ZIM!
Seriously. Futurama is one of my favourite shows, but to label it as twisted and not Invader ZIM is just pathetic. - cptshamrock, on 01/24/2008, -2/+15First it gets the years wrong for ATHF (should be present). Then Drawn Together #1 WTF? That cartoon is a steaming pile of garbage. Not even accidentally funny.
- riskybeats, on 01/24/2008, -2/+8No Invader Zim!?
- robotplague, on 01/24/2008, -0/+14I watched a few episodes of Ren and Stimpy not too long ago and I have to say...the show is better as an adult. I absolutely loved it, I loved it as a kid too but I can really, really appreciate every part of it now. I can't believe it was on Nickelodeon.
- papusman, on 01/24/2008, -0/+5I totally agree. I've been watching the hell out of Ren & Stimpy recently, and I simply can not believe my parents let me watch it. Amazing show.
- tanside, on 01/24/2008, -3/+2no Happy Tree Friends? i loved that one.
- exscind, on 01/24/2008, -2/+21The list:
10. Space Ghost Coast to Coast
9. Futurama
8. Aqua Teen Hunger Force
7. Celebrity Deathmatch
6. Ripping Friends
5. Robot Chicken
4. Beavis and Butthead
3. Ren and Stimpy
2. South Park
1. Drawn Together- chancesarent, on 01/24/2008, -2/+9What the list SHOULD have been:
10. Space Ghost Coast to Coast
9. The Tick
8. Aqua Teen Hunger Force
7. Duckman
6. Courage the Cowardly Dog
5. Robot Chicken
4. Beavis and Butthead
3. Ren and Stimpy
2. Invader Zim
1. South Park- theragu40, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1Dugg for The Tick. That show ran on Fox Kids back in the day, but it was far more entertaining for adults who could watch it and catch all the veiled cultural references. Truly a bizarre and hilarious show. Sadly, the misrepresentative live-action series is all most people know about The Tick.
- chancesarent, on 01/24/2008, -2/+9What the list SHOULD have been:
- Grummond, on 01/24/2008, -0/+12Earthworm Jim!
http://youtube.com/watch?v=xnpddV0Jpb8- Ludwig, on 01/24/2008, -1/+2"Do you mock me, oh spoon?!"
Goddamn I want EWJ to get released on DVD.
The other day my desk at work was towering with all of the Earthworm Jim action figures I bought on eBay.
- Ludwig, on 01/24/2008, -1/+2"Do you mock me, oh spoon?!"
- Nerfdude, on 01/24/2008, -2/+16drawn together is shock comedy at its worst. i honestly couldn't believe that it was picked up for a second season. the fact that it's still on television is almost enough to make me lose hope in humanity.
- depro9, on 01/24/2008, -0/+10Ren & Stimpy was one of the best shows in the last 50 years. John K & Bob Camp are some ***** cool people. I miss that type of true quality. :(
- AshWii, on 01/24/2008, -6/+9does anyone remember daria?
- 1807, on 01/24/2008, -2/+2La LA LA LA LA

- bedouin, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1Yeah, you're getting hated on but it's one of my favorite cartoons. I don't know if it's twisted though.
- neodorian, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2Yeah but it wasn't twisted. It was just trying really hard to appeal to cynical alterna-teens in the 90's.

- scabbers, on 01/24/2008, -1/+19You kids are too young to remember 'liquid television'.
- Nerfdude, on 01/24/2008, -5/+4you relics are too old to remember where your grandchildren live. maybe you'll just drive around in your '76 eldorado aimlessly today, and one of them will find you. maybe you'll just sit by your rotary phone, and one will call.
they won't. - Kronos6948, on 01/24/2008, -0/+11Count me among the relics. If it weren't for Liquid Television, there would be no Beavis and Butthead, or Aeon Flux.
- vdog, on 01/24/2008, -0/+9Aeon Flux- now THAT was twisted. These young-uns have no idea these days.
NOW GET AWF MA' LAWN! - RevKaos, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1Or The Maxx. Can't forget about that one/
- NikZ, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2The Maxx was great, but I would say it was more "surreal" than twisted.
- vdog, on 01/24/2008, -0/+9Aeon Flux- now THAT was twisted. These young-uns have no idea these days.
- clouder, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2exactly what I was thinking. this list is just off beat as far as popular goes, but doesn't even tap into any of the truly twisted toons.
- mahdaeng, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4I used to tape that show on my trusty VHS. Good stuff!
- HappyScrappy, on 01/25/2008, -0/+3They're not animation I guess, but if you go that far back, you have to rember Sifl & Olly. And maybe "The Idiot Box" too.
Let alone the old Ben Stiller show or stuff like "Just Say Julie".- sdcarter, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1http://youtube.com/watch?v=viaTT859Yk0

- neodorian, on 01/25/2008, -0/+3The sad part is that you're a "relic" for remembering shows that were on just 10-15 years ago. *****, I never saw it until I was in college but even older ones like Heavy Metal are well-known to people who like trippy and twisted cartoons.
- sdcarter, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2I'm glad others remember that stuff. I would love to find Liquid TV and MTV Oddities on dvd. They were the best! It's a shame you can't find obscure stuff like this on t.v. even on channels like Cartoon Network late at night.

- wilcox1010, on 01/24/2008, -1/+3Does anyone remember that show with the alien living inside the guys head? I think it was called Oddities. That show was twisted.
- employeeno5, on 01/24/2008, -0/+6Yes. It was called "The Head".
It was a great show. - Synn, on 01/24/2008, -1/+4For some reason your comment reminded me of another short lived series on MTV...The Maxx.
- employeeno5, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1Reminded me of The Maxx too, an even better show than the head.
- employeeno5, on 01/24/2008, -0/+6Yes. It was called "The Head".
- CaptainJamie, on 01/24/2008, -1/+5felix the cat anyone?
- wilcox1010, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1What about fritz the cat?
- skellener, on 01/24/2008, -1/+11Drawn Together? Buried.
- dalaeth, on 01/24/2008, -0/+15How about The Tick?
"I'm doing LAUNDRY!"- jezsik, on 01/24/2008, -0/+6"Spoooon!!!!"
- theragu40, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2I knew evil was bad, but COME ON! Eating kittens is just...plain...WRONG...and no one should do it! EVER!
- 1807, on 01/24/2008, -3/+1What about Aeon Flux? or Bevis and Butthead?
- sevenalive, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1RTFA, Bevis and Butthead was listed.
- employeeno5, on 01/24/2008, -2/+3There's some great cartoons on this list but the authors reasons for choosing them on are awful. I'm fairly sure that author doesn't know the correct definition of many of the words used. I mean it, I'm not try to be insulting. For example he used the word, "introspective" in the South Park comments in way that makes zero sense. I'm guess he meant insightful, or something similar, I don't know.
Also, the list is woefully mainstream. Yes these shows are great and have their "twisted" sense of humor, but real twisted stuff was never that popular, because it was actually twisted.
This is list would be fine if he hadn't tried explaining his choices. After reading them you realize, "Oh, wait, you don't really understand these shows a and why they're good, do you?"- employeeno5, on 01/24/2008, -1/+1I totally embarrassed myself by criticizing the article's witting and then making such a jumbled post. I write these comments way too fast sometimes while I'm at work and you can see the results.
However, I stand by the substance of my criticism. Not to mention the fact that my crappy writing was done on a comment thread, the author's is on a (supposedly) professional blog that was somehow dugg up to the front page.

- bitterman316, on 01/24/2008, -3/+6Celebrity Deathmatch and Drawn Together don't belong in that list, they can be twisted but they´re not FUNNY.
There are many other shows better than these two.
Also, Family Guy and Happy Tree Friends should be on the top 10.
#1 Should be South Park... I mean come on... they go too far in every possible subject, and make it funny.- blogspinner, on 01/24/2008, -1/+1Who said they had to be funny? The article said "twisted", not funny.
- PresRob, on 01/24/2008, -1/+7Any list missing both The Tick and Invader: Zim deserves to be buried
- YellowSnowDemon, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4I know it's not a TV show, but you can't get more sick and twisted than http://www.fat-pie.com/milkman.htm
- neodorian, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1I like Aphex Twin and all but that video always annoyed me. Some songs just don't need cartoons set to them. They are weird enough on their own.
- YellowSnowDemon, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1I think the song fits well in that video. It sounds serene amidst all the carnage.

- chugger1992, on 01/24/2008, -2/+9I don't even want to see what a Japanese list would look like
- Smwbigboss, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2Evangelion
Akira
Bible Black
Bobobo
Elfen Lied
Hamtaro- banido, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1Bible Black is really twisted.
Elfen Lied is cool. Just a little gore here and then.
Haven't seen the other shows yet.
- banido, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1Bible Black is really twisted.
- gregux, on 01/24/2008, -0/+0I'd add "FLCL" and "Habichu: The Housekeeping Hamster." Maybe even "Kodomo no Jikan" -- read the manga but haven't seen the anime yet (which probably got toned down).
- Smwbigboss, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2Evangelion
- Machters, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3WAT!!! no invader ZIM!!!
then this list is not accurate. im not a fan but those cartoon had the most twisted idea on how to overthrow humanity till this time i still find them mind buggy, bizzare, twisted and disturbing as hell - Aharoni, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4I'm not sure Futurama should be on that list... the humor isn't twisted, its witty and smart.
Dr. Zoidberg can be a little out there, but its far from being the humor of Ren & Stimpy.- jezsik, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1Agreed. I love Futurama, but it's not nearly as twisted as Family Guy. Why did the Family Guy comment get buried?
- YamiJim, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3No Sifl and Ollie?
- HappyScrappy, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1Great show. Not really animated.
- neodorian, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1Great show but I guess too much live action to be considered an animated show. Only backgrounds and transitions were animated. I really loved that show though. Switching it out for Road Rules really put the final nail in MTV's coffin as far as I was concerned.
