Warning: this comic occasionally contains strong language (which may be unsuitable for children), unusual humor (which may be unsuitable for adults), and advanced mathematics (which may be unsuitable for liberal-arts majors). - Epitaph, on 04/20/2009, -9/+190edit: double sheep = 0;
A programmer started to cuss
Because getting to sleep was a fuss
As he lay there in bed
Looping 'round in his head
was: while(!asleep()) sheep++;
(this is from limerickdb.com , another of Munroe's creations) - sexybobo, on 04/20/2009, -4/+175you say that alot
actually on every single xkcd comic - ewsherm, on 04/20/2009, -3/+171Hey Binky, if you start submitting the link with that as your description I'll digg your article every time. Cut out the middle man.

- noahgelman, on 04/20/2009, -4/+99Dugg for consistency
- sexybobo, on 04/20/2009, -2/+93It takes time to come up with a new comment ever time one of these is posted. so cut me some slack
- Epitaph, on 04/20/2009, -3/+92NO! DIE! YOU JOINED A WEEK AGO!
- anokihaish, on 04/20/2009, -3/+80You got a Can't Sleep degree?

- tHr333, on 04/20/2009, -5/+71Where's binky?
- SumoSniper, on 04/20/2009, -12/+77... Most people don't need a degree to get the joke.

- inactive, on 04/20/2009, -0/+53Well you can stay up and hate yourself around noon, or you can try to get some sleep and hate yourself in 2.5 hours.
- Nephersir7, on 04/20/2009, -8/+57And this was by far the worst: http://xkcd.com/1
- acman54321, on 04/20/2009, -3/+51I love when I'm programming and things are greater than or equal to zero because I get to type >=0.
ANGRY FACE! - DiscoUnderpants, on 04/20/2009, -1/+49Its funny cause signed integer values have limitations based on type storage capcity.
- Foggles, on 04/20/2009, -5/+53lol overflow
- tahseenm, on 04/20/2009, -3/+49This diligent and wonderous fellow who has been an inspiration and our one and true compass for all that is good posted "This is the best xkcd ever!" on every new xkcd. On many days, a beacon of holy light shines upon him and he is the first post on the xkcd comments. Some of the great prophets that help are sexybobo and saaadpanda who do their own reply to Binky79's famous comment. Everytime sexybobo says "you say that alot, actually on every single xkcd comic", and saaadpanda says "Hi Binky!". These holy beings are our one true source of consistency. We can depend on them every Monday, Wednesday and Friday to brighten and bring meaning to our day with their one comment. Cheers to Binky79 and his heavenly words, "This is the best xkcd ever!"
- tahseenm, on 04/20/2009, -3/+49BURY HIM! HE IS NOT TRUE! BELEIVE NOT HIS LIES AND THE BLASPHEMY HE SPEWS.
- techdever, on 04/20/2009, -1/+44Hey everybody, he is a big Fat Phony!
- Meep3D, on 04/20/2009, -2/+42Happy birthday Hitler ... wait, what?
- NealP, on 04/20/2009, -0/+40"It's a programming joke. An integer can either be signed or unsigned. Signed integers can be either positive or negative, while unsigned integers can only be positive. A 16-bit signed integer can have any value between -32,768 and 32,767. If the integer already has a value of 32,767 and you add 1 to it, it loops back to -32,7678. So when another sheep jumps over the fence, whatever variable is keeping tracking of the number of sheep passes the maximum possible value and loops back to the minimum possible value."
from below... - dwninjungleland, on 04/20/2009, -3/+42Wow, i really just went through all your xkcd posts, binky, and am very impressed with your guts. you went from no one noticing you (no diggs), to everyone hating you (-hundreds of diggs) to everyone loving you. pretty cool.
- fcruz1331, on 04/20/2009, -6/+44Now where's sexybobo?
- recruz, on 04/20/2009, -4/+41I need a t-shirt of Binky's post
- Games4Life, on 04/20/2009, -4/+41I hope you get buried so hard your children will still be feeling the pain.
- Epitaph, on 04/20/2009, -0/+36You're not ***** SaaadPanda, *****
- CptnEvilStomper, on 04/20/2009, -0/+35It's a programming joke. An integer can either be signed or unsigned. Signed integers can be either positive or negative, while unsigned integers can only be positive. A 16-bit signed integer can have any value between -32,768 and 32,767. So when another sheep jumps over the fence, whatever variable is keeping tracking of the number of sheep passes the maximum possible value and loops back to the minimum possible value.
There's a glitch in FFVII that happens because of this. If you can manage to do enough damage in one hit that it passes the maximum possible value, it loops around to a negative value and either the enemy is killed in one hit or it goes all the way back up to a positive value and you do a tiny amount of damage instead. Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=At1-oFqawvc#t=09m (skip ahead to 9:00 if it doesn't do it automatically). There's plenty of other glitches in other games that work the same way but most of them aren't as interesting (usually you just end up with a ***** of lives or a bunch of symbols instead of a score). - Cargo8, on 04/20/2009, -2/+37"Practical" use.
- SuicideMouse, on 04/20/2009, -0/+34You must be so mad at your parents..
- funkify33, on 04/20/2009, -11/+45Dugg for Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Truly a classic.
- MrBogard, on 04/20/2009, -2/+35I can't sleep right now and I have to "get up" for work in 2.5 hours. *****.
- GuyHersh, on 04/20/2009, -5/+37Wow, how cool, you submit the story and then say that before binky even has a chance...
- tedfor, on 04/20/2009, -6/+37Clown will eat me
- Epitaph, on 04/20/2009, -2/+32yea, nevermind. I'm way off base. the Java int is a 32-bit int, so it would far exceed 32,768. yea, that code needs to be revised for C so that these jokes can be compatible. haha.
- jhaks, on 04/20/2009, -0/+29I think he ment unsigned long int.
- rsmith32, on 04/20/2009, -1/+30Your description sums it up pretty well... there's nothing else to add
- mattfp4893, on 04/20/2009, -0/+28What a perfectly unfortunate username.
