- trav12221, on 01/31/2008, -50/+184I actually watched "Viscous Circle" on CC yesterday thinkin my first impression of him was wrong.....
Turns out I was dead on, he is straight-up not ufunny- btgoss, on 01/31/2008, -37/+17Seriously. Do you really need five reasons with this guy?
- theragu40, on 01/31/2008, -3/+23Thanks, I couldn't read the description the author already provided.
- KarthVader, on 01/31/2008, -3/+5Now I know I'm not alone. I can't stand that guy.
- OwdenBowden, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1He is not that bad but as far as comics are concerned it is all personal taste. Also the problem is that there is an event horizon for everything - including jokes - so you will eventually find similarities.
- theragu40, on 01/31/2008, -3/+23Thanks, I couldn't read the description the author already provided.
- fluidfoundation, on 01/31/2008, -20/+45You must have mistaken him with sara silverman.
- dafragsta, on 01/31/2008, -3/+36Not funny, but I'd hit it.
- nigh7dagger, on 01/31/2008, -14/+9I'd only hit it with a baseball bat.
- Shirt, on 01/31/2008, -0/+12Even hitting that would be annoying.
- random19, on 01/31/2008, -11/+18I'll never understand why the consensus on Digg seems to be that Sarah Silverman isn't funny, and that Robot Chicken is hilarious. What kind of backwards world is this? Because in the world I live, Sarah Silverman is awesome.
"Everybody blames the Jews for killing Christ, and the Jews try to pass it off on the Romans. I'm one of the few people who believes it was the blacks."- craterburnsu, on 01/31/2008, -2/+6I think some of her material is great, but she as a person just gets on my nerves. My dad says the same thing about Steve Carell.
- sleepwalkers, on 01/31/2008, -3/+7Some people have different tastes in humor. This seems to be a place where, in general, people don't share your taste. It's not that terribly hard to understand.
- DeathfireD, on 01/31/2008, -1/+5I agree, some of her jokes are funny but when she talks it totally kills the joke. She's really annoying.
- Iwantawii, on 01/31/2008, -0/+4Sarah Silverman is yours, I just think Dane Cook reminds us all of someone we don't like.
- dafragsta, on 01/31/2008, -3/+36Not funny, but I'd hit it.
- NeoCortex, on 01/31/2008, -11/+25I realized he was unfunny when he kept reminding me that "It's November!".
I have a calender, you ***** idiot. Stop coming on the TV to remind me what month it is.- ahoyhoy, on 01/31/2008, -8/+1One of the only SNL skits I found hilarious in 2007.
- techie4life, on 01/31/2008, -7/+2that commercial wasn't scripted by dane....Nor did he control the amount of times it was played.
- nolesshabitual, on 01/31/2008, -1/+3but he didn't have to take corporate money to do this unfunny ad. once he took the cash from mlb he endorsed the stupidity of the ad.... not that his material is any better
- techie4life, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1Unfortunately, I cannot comment on Dane's ability to not do to this commercial based on my lack of access to his contract or the negotiations between his agent and the MLB. Also, after having reviewed the commercial I fail to see the correlation between this ad and his material given that the ad was not an attempt to be humorous.
- nolesshabitual, on 01/31/2008, -1/+3but he didn't have to take corporate money to do this unfunny ad. once he took the cash from mlb he endorsed the stupidity of the ad.... not that his material is any better
- pixelate, on 01/31/2008, -2/+2Wait, wait.... How many Octobers are there, again?
- rspeed, on 01/31/2008, -4/+86The first time I watched some of his material I thought it was great; I laughed my ass off. Then I watched it again and was completely straight-faced the whole way through. There's just no replay value. To contrast that, I can listen to the same two Mitch Hedberg albums over and over again (and, damnit, I'm gonna have to) and I always laugh. The only explanation I can come up with is that he doesn't really perform comedy, he just says weird *****.
- ahoyhoy, on 01/31/2008, -2/+4His performances are much more visual than verbal. While that's not the worst thing in the world, good comedians should always make people laugh who were there and who are just hearing their jokes repeated the next day.
- Kohaxx, on 01/31/2008, -4/+44Cook's not a comedian, he's a jester.
- RpgActioN, on 01/31/2008, -13/+4God you people are so ***** pretentious. I can't believe idiotic articles like this actually make it to the front page, I can't believe Digg has become overrun by sheep that digg things based on who submitted it rather than actual value of content. This article sucked, whether or not you happen to find Dane Cook funny. It's stupid and none of the points that it makes are good ones - I mean it actually criticized him for not following a formula in joke-telling. How ***** retarded is that, ridiculing somebody for stepping outside of their precious conventionality?
- Kohaxx, on 01/31/2008, -4/+44Cook's not a comedian, he's a jester.
- Bustin, on 01/31/2008, -0/+9Mitch Hedberg is definitely my favorite comedian ever. He is possibly the most quoted comedian of my generation, because his jokes are short and concise most of the time. Demetri Martin has a similar style but I don't think is as funny, but he's not bad. Dane Cook however really is funny once and then just gets annoying.
- vortex22222, on 01/31/2008, -0/+9I believe Demetri Martin is channeling Mitch's spirit.
No one will ever be as great as Mitch, but Demetri is the best right now. - DrStephanHeimer, on 01/31/2008, -0/+4Just checked out Demetri Martin - really great stuff
- vortex22222, on 01/31/2008, -0/+9I believe Demetri Martin is channeling Mitch's spirit.
- bluezinc, on 01/31/2008, -0/+4Cook's earlier comedy was pretty good, then later when his ego exploded he just started to ooze arrogance. I was more offended at how he thought he was the ***** rather than his material. His material, obviously, wasn't good enough to capture my attention away from his terrible personality.
- ahoyhoy, on 01/31/2008, -2/+4His performances are much more visual than verbal. While that's not the worst thing in the world, good comedians should always make people laugh who were there and who are just hearing their jokes repeated the next day.
- NgrHader, on 01/31/2008, -7/+16I was never on the Dane Cook bandwagon and while all my friends didn't approve of that they all agree with me now, Dane Cook ran out of steam
- ArmandoM, on 01/31/2008, -6/+10Whether you like him or not, any stand up comedian playing audiences of 18,000 people you are not out of steam.
- Shirt, on 01/31/2008, -6/+12We're talking about his material, not his career. What we're getting at is that all of those 18,000 people are soulless tools (yeah, I judged all those people) that laugh at Dane Cook because it's popular to laugh at him. While his popularity has nothing to do with his quality of humor, it doesn't change the fact either way that he blows.
- AnthonyA7, on 01/31/2008, -0/+5Hahaha I'm stealing "yeah, I judged all those people"
- alecks, on 01/31/2008, -0/+2I hear ya brother, and I'm proud to be part of this cooler soulful, obviously more mature and sophisticated crowd.
Elitism FTW!!!
- ICSU, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1Britney Spears sells how many albums?
- Shirt, on 01/31/2008, -6/+12We're talking about his material, not his career. - hipnotyq, on 01/31/2008, -8/+21I fell into the fad my last year of highschool and honestly cannot see why I found him funny... hes just annoying
- mablung, on 01/31/2008, -7/+14not unfunny? So you thought he was funny?
- Slowface, on 01/31/2008, -1/+7think the 'u' was a typo
- chinpo, on 01/31/2008, -2/+9Yea, once I saw this video: http://youtube.com/watch?v=GMV4kwbSdw4
I never again found him funny. Its such an accurate depiction.- brettmurf, on 01/31/2008, -0/+2You mean the video in the article....
- centerblack, on 01/31/2008, -5/+1Um, yea I didn't think the guy in that video was funny either... because it wasn't Dane Cook. It was some jack-ass doing a ***** impression of him with a silly wig on.
- Anubis2051, on 01/31/2008, -4/+13His MLB post season commercials pissed me off so much. All he does is yell at the screen.
- NgrHader, on 01/31/2008, -0/+4Couldn't even say "October" right
- Anubis2051, on 01/31/2008, -3/+2Well he is a "Baston" red sox fan. Last time I checked most of them can't talk right...or have a conversation about baseball without uttering the phrase "yankees suck", all the while being unable to name more than 3 players on their own team.
- nolesshabitual, on 01/31/2008, -3/+1then you obviously haven't talked to a real red sox fan. the ones that just spout yankees suck and do the wave and don't pay attention to games, we call them pink hats, and i'd argue dane fits that category. real fans respect the Yankees, at least real Yankees like Jeter and Mo, i'm sorry but I refuse to respect ball slapping, i got it calling bitches like Alex Rodriguez, or cheaters like pettite and clemens. Most of us can name our players. (Varitek, Youkilis, Pedroia, Lugo, Lowell, Ramirez, Crisp, Drew being our starting defense in 07. for starters, but thats over 3, so we won't even get into pitching and bench players.) As for our vocal abilities, lets just say i won't have my vocabulary insulted by someone who uses the phrase "can't talk right" try can't speak properly and we'll make it a conversation.
- yournightmare, on 01/31/2008, -0/+3Lol @ you for bitching about somebody saying "can't talk right," when your sentences are absolutely *****. You don't even know when to use commas, periods, or capital letters and somehow you're going to complain about somebody else's turn of phrase.
- NgrHader, on 01/31/2008, -0/+4Couldn't even say "October" right
- jsully, on 01/31/2008, -7/+5Perhaps you haven't heard his new 15 minute diatribe on Buger King's new burger?
http://www.theonion.com/content/news/dane_cook_par ...
Comedy gold. The article has a screenshot of it, but doesn't link to the article. - ttfadia, on 01/31/2008, -4/+25I don't understand why we have to publicize and force our dislike for someone. Sure, he's not the most profound of comedians, but some idio-err I mean people like him. Is it no longer acceptable for different people to like different things?
- pontiac, on 01/31/2008, -2/+7Ah... I see... is this your first time to the internet?
- centerblack, on 01/31/2008, -3/+3Second... what's your point? And how come everyone on the Internet writes at the level of a third grader?
- pontiac, on 02/24/2008, -0/+1My point is that penny-arcade's Greater Internet ***** Theory (http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2004/03/19) is true and because of this people asking "Why can't we all just get along and respect each other's opinions?" on forum sites like SomethingAwful or in the comment sections of Digg have clearly not spent much time here. I feel the reason most people have poor spelling/writing/grammar/syntax/etc... on the internet is because no one cares to proof-read or spell-check a comment that took 30 seconds to write and even less time to formulate. Also, why do I care if people I'm never going to meet can read or even understand something I write? If they flame me it'll just give me more of an excuse to call them names and accuse them of having less of a life than I do.
- centerblack, on 01/31/2008, -3/+3Second... what's your point? And how come everyone on the Internet writes at the level of a third grader?
- pontiac, on 01/31/2008, -2/+7Ah... I see... is this your first time to the internet?
- Vzylexy, on 01/31/2008, -7/+12I watched the first five minutes of Vicious Circle and I had to turn it off, complete garbage.
- centerblack, on 01/31/2008, -5/+1I read the first 15 words of your post and had to bury it, complete garbage.
- rhank, on 01/31/2008, -1/+3So how slow did said circle flow out of the TV?
- se1zure, on 01/31/2008, -3/+2Here is a novel idea... how about we choose what comedians we like based on howfunny they are. Thats the only reason to like or dislike them.
- FoxOrian, on 01/31/2008, -1/+1The problem with that is siding with something that is fake versus something that is real and sincere.
- centerblack, on 01/31/2008, -3/+3Reasons why you, the submitter, and the person who wrote the article are douche bags.
5: Even though Louis CK's and Danes joke are similar in topic, Danes delivery is better. gg.
4: I don't really give a ***** if other comedians don't respect him, I suspect he doesn't either. Non-issue. Oh noes, Dane went into my time! If people weren't laughing then I bet you he wouldn't have been out there so ***** long. Now shut up and do your job cry baby.
3: Oh-*****-Noes, people think he is funny. They quote him and *****. I liked him too, until he was famous. Now it's not "cool" anymore- so I'll setup a ***** blog and talk ***** like I never thought he was funny.
2: HE DOESN'T DO IT LIKE ALL THE OTHER ONES, CRY CRY CRY, GET IN LINE AND BE MORE LIKE THESE PEOPLE DANE!@!
1:A personal ***** opinion on the future relevance of a comedian. The author likes Steve Martin movies. Great. Would I blame Jonah Hill for making 15 ***** ***** movies, getting paid millions for each one, and saving enough money to never have to work again before he's 30? NO. Go do it Dane, if people want to watch your movie and buy t-shirts and foam super fingers, so be it. Grats.- NSMike, on 01/31/2008, -0/+2Dane's delivery is better? I don't agree with that one. Louis CK's delivery sounds like a real person talking. Dane Cook sounds like a caricature of... Hell, I don't even know what.
- centerblack, on 01/31/2008, -3/+3Reasons why you, the submitter, and the person who wrote the article are douche bags.
- FoxOrian, on 01/31/2008, -1/+1The problem with that is siding with something that is fake versus something that is real and sincere.
- BlakeEM, on 01/31/2008, -3/+5I saw him on the Insomniac Tour when some friends had some extra tickets, he was the least funny guy on stage. Now Stephen Lynch and Mitch Hedberg, that was and awesome show.
- btgoss, on 01/31/2008, -37/+17Seriously. Do you really need five reasons with this guy?
- kylesellers, on 01/31/2008, -40/+306Crap I dugg it and then realized it was submitted by one of the digg-whiners...
- cococooky, on 01/31/2008, -69/+16It looks like your the only one doing any whining....

- OstrakonX, on 01/31/2008, -4/+8It's "you're," you ***** retard.
- xsquirrel378x, on 01/31/2008, -4/+77you can always undigg stories
- Boing, on 01/31/2008, -4/+59I'll bury it for you :)
- jmp478, on 01/31/2008, -23/+3Yeah, well I'll digg it twice
- Metatron197, on 01/31/2008, -1/+13Yeah, well no one likes you anyways
- Ajajadude, on 01/31/2008, -0/+13Good luck with that.
- jmp478, on 01/31/2008, -23/+3Yeah, well I'll digg it twice
- dicknuts, on 01/31/2008, -14/+8I never digg or bury stories but I buried this one just for you.
- Ford_Prefect2nd, on 01/31/2008, -3/+3So you say you never contribute. Why are you here.
- Brad324, on 01/31/2008, -0/+5to click and read stories, probably?
- bmc31190, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1Content?

- Dbeneath, on 01/31/2008, -11/+41dude who gives a *****
- Ajajadude, on 01/31/2008, -2/+16Because those jack asses resubmit stories that have already been on the frontpage, sometimes within the same day.
- stnkyme, on 01/31/2008, -9/+5jack asses? a little much. all he did was resubmit a story. when is that ever a big deal? just say 'oh, i've already seen this' and move on. in most cases, a story being rehashed on digg is not bad because it exposes the story to diggers who may not have seen the story before.
and who cares if they are the 'top submitters'. thats because they submit some good stories. just digg the story if you like or move on if you dont like it. - Ajajadude, on 01/31/2008, -1/+4It's a big deal when it happens on a regular basis. The difference between him and the other guy submitting the same story is he has more people to spam shout.
And half the time, they submit crap. Like this wonderful opinion piece. OMGNOWAY someone doesn't like Dane Cook and felt the need to come up with half-assed reasons?!

- thatsmyaibo, on 01/31/2008, -9/+25He has 3 on the front page RIGHT NOW! Buried. These whiners must be getting paid.
- Liggmin, on 01/31/2008, -21/+2you have GOT to be kidding me.
*****. - tandy400, on 01/31/2008, -4/+5Getting paid to do what? I'm with Dbeneath. Who gives a *****.
- Liggmin, on 01/31/2008, -21/+2you have GOT to be kidding me.
- se1zure, on 01/31/2008, -8/+19if you base your digging decions on who the submitter is, you are no better than they are.
- thatsmyaibo, on 01/31/2008, -1/+2Well the problem is it makes it to the front page because their 'friends' get it there. So now we read what mrbabyman is posting and not what legitimately climbed to the front page because of story content. Thus digg becomes a place to read what mrbabyman wants you to read and not what the best content is. What's the point of a user submitted site where there is only 3 main users?
- mxmj, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1This guy must be pretty goddamn popular then...

- wealer, on 01/31/2008, -49/+20"Good Luck Chuck" was worth watching... If only for the topless women.
- Synova, on 01/31/2008, -5/+13Worse movie I've seen in years actually, despite the naked chicks.
- unicronband, on 01/31/2008, -2/+28In that case I'll just stick with good old porn. It's funnier anyways.
- Pilgrim, on 01/31/2008, -6/+17The only reason I watched it is because Jessica Alba was in it.
- reaganluver, on 01/31/2008, -2/+5And she is worth watching because??? and please don't say because she's hot........
- tgc1, on 01/31/2008, -4/+0Same here. Saw it over the weekend. I thought it was pretty decent entertainment. I lol'd.
- AntBing, on 01/31/2008, -0/+3Do a google image search for "*****", you'll be much happier than watching Good Luck Chuck.
- fxu1989, on 01/31/2008, -24/+95He's too ***** loud.
- ziptnf, on 01/31/2008, -16/+6Let me Dane Cookify the last point:
TWO COMEDIANS BEFORE COOK HAVE ACHIEVED HIS LEVEL OF SUCCESS. STEVE MARTIN AND RICHARD PRYOR HAVE BOTH PLAYED TO THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE BUT THEIR MATERIAL PUSHED BOUNDARIES IN COMEDY. PRYOR ENGAGED BOTH WHITE AND BLACK AUDIENCES DISCUSSING RACE RELATIONS AND HIS OWN TROUBLED PERSONAL LIFE. MARTIN CREATED A STAGE CHARACTER THAT WAS WILD AND WACKY BUT WAS ALSO INVENTIVE AND PERSONABLE. AND AFTER REALIZING THE PRICE OF FAME CAN BE A DISASTER, MARTIN WROTE AND STARRED IN A CATALOG OF FILMS THAT ARE NOW CLASSICS. COOK? WELL, THAT'S THE THING. IN TERMS OF BEING A COMIC THE ONLY THING TO LEARN FROM HIM IS THAT YOU CAN CREATE A FRANCHISE AND SELL T-SHIRTS. FIFTY YEARS FROM NOW PRYOR'S MATERIAL WILL STILL BE VALUABLE BY TOUCHING ON UNIVERSAL THEMES, WHILE JOKES ABOUT BURGER KING MAY NOT. ONLY TIME CAN TELL.!!!!!- Echelon2, on 01/31/2008, -11/+3You do know things are harder to read in all CAPS right?
- Brad324, on 01/31/2008, -0/+10*WOOSH*
- iiBeLiEvE, on 01/31/2008, -1/+3WHY ARE WE YELLING!?
ONLY TIME AND NOT BEING A MORON CAN TELL! - thomtomw, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1LOUD NOISES
- Echelon2, on 01/31/2008, -11/+3You do know things are harder to read in all CAPS right?
- cam2009, on 01/31/2008, -2/+19You can be loud and funny. I wouldn't discredit a comedian just because of their volume. The problem is when the joke is that you're being loud. I'd like to see a transcript of him and Carlos Mencia, their jokes are nothing when they aren't hiding behind screaming and flailing.
- reaganluver, on 01/31/2008, -0/+10Yeah, also they both happen to steal jokes from other comedians.
- bluezinc, on 01/31/2008, -1/+3I hate Carlos Mencia more because his jokes are racist and seem to actually be coming from some deep-seeded racism within him, not some joking place that can make fun of racism. When Bob Saget tells a racist joke, I laugh because I know he's not racist. When Dave Chappelle makes a racist joke, I laugh because, again, he's poking fun at racism. Mencia... seems to mean what he says and that makes me uncomfortable.
- Iamironman, on 01/31/2008, -1/+5he's too ***** annoying
- ninerskeet, on 01/31/2008, -1/+9dane cook sucks plain and simple... i'll watch chappelle any day over cook
- maci01, on 01/31/2008, -0/+2After watching Chappelle it hurts to breathe. (Thats a good thing)
- Ajajadude, on 01/31/2008, -0/+3What are you, 80? Does that danged John Mellencamp rattle your fillings too much?
- TheUngod, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1Loud isn't necessarily bad. Look at Sam Kinison...he was fantastic. Of course, yelling "in the FACE" like Cook does, doesn't make anything funny.
- ziptnf, on 01/31/2008, -16/+6Let me Dane Cookify the last point:
- Serenikill, on 01/31/2008, -21/+89Dane Cook is definitely a dick, just watch an episode of tourgasm and you can see that but I would be lying if I haven't laughed quite hard at more than one of his jokes. Article is mainly opinions more than a solid argument with reasons, except for the joke stealing which it is pretty obvious he took a few jokes.
- peestandingup, on 01/31/2008, -1/+6I always thought a couple of those other comics on Tourgasm were much funnier & just overall better comics than Dane "talk really loud & run around the stage like an idiot" Cook.
- jsully, on 01/31/2008, -8/+13It's fashionable to hate Dane Cook these days.
- reaganluver, on 01/31/2008, -3/+7What about us who have always hated him? like before he became famous. Don't get me wrong, i don't care if he's rich and all....... hell i'd pitch in on a billion dollar fund to keep him from working ever again.
- bluezinc, on 01/31/2008, -0/+3Nah, I thought he was awesome until I watched an episode of Tourgasm and saw what he's really like. After that its like someone switched on a lightbulb for me, I saw his douche-baggery in all his acts.
- Elranzer, on 01/31/2008, -2/+6I hated Dane Cook before it was popular to. In fact, I hated Dane Cook when it was fashionable to like him.
- DrMonkeyLove, on 01/31/2008, -1/+4I hate Dane Cook's mother most of all.
- poxonyou, on 01/31/2008, -3/+2Oh yeah. I hated him since he was born, and like, everyone totally loved him them. "Oh, he's sooo cute." God, trendy people. Sell-outs. /15-year-old
- stackered, on 01/31/2008, -4/+7Did you ever feel sick because someone/something was so unfunny it was embarrassing? I caught part of "A Vicious Circle" and that effect was further amplified by the audience which actually laughed... meaning that people actually DO think hes funny. Oh god... I just threw up thinking about it.
- peestandingup, on 01/31/2008, -1/+3Look closely at his audience though. DC is a niche comic & the only people who think he's funny are those "frat guy" personas. Not dissing those guys, they are who they are, but that should tell you something right there that no one over the age of 25 thinks he's funny.
- reaganluver, on 01/31/2008, -0/+2The age isn't a good reason, just look at people who are into comedy, and not just into Dane Cook. There's not too many of them at his shows.

- travbrack, on 01/31/2008, -0/+8On his recent HBO special, that routine he told about coming home to your girlfriend after cheating on her was 100% stolen from Jim Brewer. Brewer tells a story about himself coming home as a teenager to his parents in the exact same way, same sound effects and everything. I was pretty disappointed when I saw that because I thought all of his stuff was pretty fresh before that.
- rarson, on 01/31/2008, -2/+3Meh... I don't think he's extremely funny, or consistently funny (he does get old), but I think he's an okay comedian. I also think he's an okay actor. Joke stealing sucks and so does being a dick, but I've never really noticed. I think some people just hate him because it's cool to hate Dane Cook. Every once in a while he does make me laugh pretty good.
I think this list better fits Carlos Mencia, if anyone. Carlos Mencia is not funny at all, and a complete joke thief.- TecK415, on 01/31/2008, -0/+2A few of his jokes are funny... But I like him more as an actor as well, He was the only good part of the movie Mr. Brooks.
And by the way, for some reason I couldn't comment on the other page where we were talking about MDMA. So I'll write it here: I Just wrote a really long reply, then my internet shut down. So this one's going to be shorter, but more concise. I completely agree with everything you said! And you said it very well.- rarson, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1Thanks.

- sgtbutterscotch, on 01/31/2008, -11/+15I'll give him 3 of the points. I don't see how you can't find a good portion of his jokes funny. And saying "He is loud to me sometimes" does not justify you saying he is completely unfunny. Also, I feel like the writer has no sense of dry humor, which is what a lot of Cook's humor is. A lot of his joke are in his delivery, such as with his voice, or the faces he makes. I believe there is saying: "A comic says funny things, but a comedian says things funny." Also, I find it disconcerting that it's his critics that don't pick up on his dry humor, while the mainstream does. Seems like mainstream comedians might rely more on obvious jokes, but I guess not in this case. Anyway, it does actually appear that he is an ***** for those other reasons.
- jkremer3, on 01/31/2008, -8/+10blah blah blah - in conclusion - he's not funny.
- fantasticFlan, on 01/31/2008, -1/+18You might want to refamiliarize yourself with dry humor.
- sgtbutterscotch, on 01/31/2008, -2/+8Maybe you're right...but my point about the delivery, and not a simple punchline still stands.
- Ajajadude, on 01/31/2008, -0/+9Regardless, if you think in order for something to be a joke it has to have some sort of punchline, you have an extremely narrow scope of what's funny. Most things I find hilarious have no punchlines.
- Humptydank, on 01/31/2008, -1/+14Dane Cook is "dry?!"
Dane Cook has simply found a new approach (running around, shouting, jumping, kicking) to the "what's that about?" school of comedy, where a comedian simply finds plain observations and presents them, with a more mild, less jokey punchline at the end.
Seinfeld almost invented that style. The problem is (as was demonstrated in most of the '80's) that unless it's being delivered by a talented comedian, it's just a guy up on stage describing things, with no appreciable punch line at all.
In Dane Cook's case, it's a guy up on stage just describing things, while leaping and kicking, to distract from the fact that he's doing a style of comedy that went out in the 1980s, not very well.- sgtbutterscotch, on 01/31/2008, -5/+3Ok, my bad, it's not dry. Anyway, he doesn't just take plain observations, he takes his own thoughts, which very well may not be his own, to the extreme. Such as that monkey heist joke and the ***** on the coats joke. And I don't think the crazy stuff he does distracts the audience from the style of comedy you mention, but I think it rather adds to it. It's fresh and I don't see why he should get hated on for that particular aspect of his routines.
- Ajajadude, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1What's wrong with using his own thoughts to entertain? Isn't that part of the entertainment industry?
- sgtbutterscotch, on 01/31/2008, -5/+3Ok, my bad, it's not dry. Anyway, he doesn't just take plain observations, he takes his own thoughts, which very well may not be his own, to the extreme. - DephexTwin, on 01/31/2008, -1/+4Although I can't stand Dane Cook, I wholeheartedly agree with your main point.

- bluezinc, on 01/31/2008, -0/+2The punchline argument isn't an argument FOR form and strict rules about comedy. It's about how he just tells stories that drone on with promise of a payoff, but there is none. He just tells a story really loud and contorts his body around as he tells it.

- Drood, on 01/31/2008, -2/+3What I find funny is people are anti-Dane because he allegedly steals jokes. Denis Leary based his entire act on stolen Bill Hicks material. In fact the Hicks biography "American Scream" even covers when Bill first heard Denis' using his material almost verbatim. It's sickening that Hicks is dead, and the hack who plagiarised him so egregiously lives and prospers.
Throw in Dane Cook's fame, and it's all proof that the universe is entirely, 100% ***** WRONG.- Roryking, on 01/31/2008, -1/+1I remember hearing something to the effect of, "if bill hicks is better than dennis leary, why does dennis leary have a carreer? because there's no cure for cancer"

Maybe I'm being a bit too harsh on Lopez, but the fact of the matter is, Mexicans (at least here in OC/LA) need someone to wakes us up and help us strive forward to get out of our economic hardships, and he is doing nothing but creating more stereotypes.

Not really, but I had you going.
Carlos Mencia is funny. He is kind of like a Benny Hill -- there were a lot of jokes about race and stereotypes with Benny Hill, but nobody got their feelings hurt. It's kind of an anti-racism stereotype, that makes you rethink the prejudice. I've seen a lot of Latin Comedy shows, and not being able to speak the language, I can tell that it's almost all borrowed material. There might be some modern, intellectual comedians out there -- but none on the latin shows in the states. A lot of Shtick.

They both suck, in my opinion, but at least Carlos Mencia does the whole "we all need to lighten up a bit" act, which I think is nice to see against the overly-politically-correct world we're living in. While Mencia's jokes aren't very good, at least he uses some of them to point out that we can all laugh about our differences, instead of fighting over them, or pretending we have none.

I'm going to play devils advocate here and put some counter arguments up (please read the article first)
To point #5: He probably steals jokes.
"Even if he didn't steal his jokes verbatim the material is uninspired." Name me one person who is able to tell a joke, opinion, etc that someone else hasnt already done before. Its all about presentation in that line of work, anyway. No one can compare with Carlos Mencia in joke stealing powers.
Point #4: Lack of respect for other comedians
The author is basing this point on Dane running over time, and how professional comedians like David Cross, Jim Breuer, etc, never would do such a thing. It ***** happens. I'm a musician, and I've gone over time, and people have done the same thing to me. Thats the business. Stop crying about it.
Point #3: Dane Cook "Superfans"
I never base my opinion of someone on their fans. Fans are stupid, by nature. They take the smallest understanding or liking of something and blow it out of proportion. Thats how they operate. As far as the superfinger, I think the author is just upset because he cant pull off a good one.
Point #2- No punchlines
Its how you tell the joke, not the punchline. Well, I take that back, it may be so hard for some people to get their brains out of that pattern, and they're probably the same people who like all songs structured Verse-Chorus-Verse-Chorus-Bridge-Chorus.
Point #1- No relevance or longevity
This point may be even weaker than the superfans point. The author compared Dane Cook to Richard Pryor and Steve Martin. Thats and unfair comparison to make to any comedian. Thats decades and decades of work, and he's matching that up against someone still growing in stand up. I wonder if he would have made that same comparisons to his previous "professional comedians" he mentioned earlier.
My point: If you don't like the guy, thats your taste. But if you're trying to convince others why they shouldnt, try coming up with a few more original reasons. I've seen these on other blogs before, and there's nothing worse than someone who steals blogs. ;)- Ojannen, on 01/31/2008, -27/+9I am a professional musician and I am not an *****. - Beerage, on 01/31/2008, -6/+16Totally agree. I dont see why people hate him, people have different tastes in comedy, but that doesnt mean you should make lists like "top reasons not to like him", I just the jokes and the way he tells them, not whether the actual person has a massive ego, in some ways its good to have a big ego in comedy, in other ways its bad.
- Kohaxx, on 01/31/2008, -6/+21Glad someone pointed out at how crazy his anti-fans are as his fans. If you don't like him don't watch him, it's not like he's coming into your house, strapping you to a chair, and forcing you to watch.
I don't like American Idol, doesn't mean I need to make top ten lists on how much it sucks.- reaganluver, on 01/31/2008, -2/+3Why not? if you can show how many people how badly american idol sucks. then maybe it will no longer be on the air.
- SKick, on 01/31/2008, -1/+4Who gives a *****? If they don't want to watch it, fine. If they do, fine. I have better things to do than worry about what other people are enjoying as entertainment. You should too.
- reaganluver, on 01/31/2008, -2/+3Why not? if you can show how many people how badly american idol sucks. then maybe it will no longer be on the air.
- Falldog, on 01/31/2008, -5/+13This is exactly what I through while reading this list. This list is grasping for reasons to hate Dane just as much as "Super Fans" grasp for reasons why Dane is the greatest comedian.
- theragu40, on 01/31/2008, -5/+7I agree with all your points, simply because I don't think it's necessary to have a list of reasons not to like him. The only reason you need is that he isn't funny. Watch his comedy and try to say it would be funny if he wasn't loudly cursing and jumping around the stage. It wouldn't be. That's the only reason you need.
- oldhick, on 01/31/2008, -2/+2Agreed. I find myself agreeing with 'fluidfoundations' support of Cook simply because as you so eloquently put it, he's not funny. You don't any reasons other than that.
- ICSU, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1"The only reason you need is that he isn't funny."
I concur. Not funny, nor witty.
- stnkyme, on 01/31/2008, -4/+2whats wrong with trying to convince others that he sucks? yea, its kind of a big 'pile ***** on dane-fest', but when you are in a creative field, you are guaranteed to have critics, and thats really all he is, a critic.
and yea, i agree that comparing cook to pryor and martin is not that fair, hes only been around a few years. maybe this is a phase for dane.- oldhick, on 01/31/2008, -1/+4Pryor and Martin were funny right out of the gate. Dane is a marketing genius just like Garth Brooks was, not a creative genius.
- reaganluver, on 01/31/2008, -1/+1Amen!!!
- oldhick, on 01/31/2008, -1/+4Pryor and Martin were funny right out of the gate. Dane is a marketing genius just like Garth Brooks was, not a creative genius.
- jamesb0i, on 01/31/2008, -2/+5i'm not a superfan myself, but i feel as though he's a funny person. his comedy is more like talk me and my buddies have and it makes me laugh
- reaganluver, on 01/31/2008, -2/+1Then why not just talk to your friends and save the money. That's why I don't like him, he just sounds like people I know.
- soupnrc, on 01/31/2008, -3/+5Well said. I personally however think he's a funny guy, just like jamesb0i said in response to your comment. He's kind of got the same sense of humor that me and some friends of mine have. Though his jokes are more like goofy stories and less like jokes, they are still funny to me. However, opinion is opinion and you may think someone is funny while I do not. I digg your comment... rock on...
- Trav3133, on 01/31/2008, -3/+2Dane cook sucks because he is not funny plain and simple and I think the points you made are right on. This website is terrible and came up with the worst list ever, the reason to not like Dane Cook is because he is not funny. If you find him funny you probably suffer from some sort of medical ailment.
- geoboy, on 01/31/2008, -1/+2Yes. God forbid people ever express their opinions. They should just shut up and keep their feelings to themselves.
- Ojannen, on 01/31/2008, -27/+9I am a professional musician and I am not an *****. Why would you brag about being one?
- GinsuGuy585, on 01/31/2008, -33/+186Buried, because someone ***** on my coat.
- fluidfoundation, on 01/31/2008, -15/+5NICE.
- feshmania, on 01/31/2008, -8/+33oh way to use a dane cook PUNCH LINE
- mwolfzorn, on 01/31/2008, -2/+5No, that is the lead into the joke. The "punchline" is saying someone ***** on the coats in many different ways: ie: "Someone ***** on or around the coat area [...]
- CatalystGhost, on 01/31/2008, -4/+2Nah, that would seem more like a Mitch Hedberg sort of thing.
- mwolfzorn, on 01/31/2008, -2/+5No, that is the lead into the joke. The "punchline" is saying someone ***** on the coats in many different ways: ie: "Someone ***** on or around the coat area [...]
- Jones82, on 01/31/2008, -3/+8You're a ***** riot!
- fonzer2000, on 01/31/2008, -1/+1WHAT?!
- TBoneFever, on 01/31/2008, -0/+3Are you out of your ***** mind?
- hiphoplsr, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1your comment is very intriguing, and i would like to subscribe to your newsletter
- NJPENSO, on 01/31/2008, -22/+31Man, I love Louis CK, and I think Dane Cook is boring, but I don't think that video showed him stealing jokes at all, it feels like they're really stretching it. Don't make up reasons to hate the guy, he's already not funny.
- stnkyme, on 01/31/2008, -1/+2i think they are stretching it too, but the video had some damn interesting comparisons. imo, he didnt steal them
- maddhopps, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1OK, so the first point is kinda weak. What about the rest? I only made it halfway through the 2nd video before I had enough.
- TomK88, on 01/31/2008, -12/+23I think that the whole joke stealing thing with all comedians is overblown. There are only a few truly unique jokes that come out each year. Most are just old jokes plastered with a new facade. I don't see anything wrong with taking jokes that have been being told for decades and modifying them so they fit into your routine
- jasqwerty, on 01/31/2008, -27/+54That's a hell of a lot of bitter jealousy...
- ggfobster, on 01/31/2008, -10/+22I'm not a comedian. I have no reason to be jealous, it's just that Dane Cook is a ***** comedian.
- tgc1, on 01/31/2008, -2/+1I think he's getting on a lot better than most of us loser diggers on here spouting this ***** about him. He got to make out with some of the hottest women out there. Do you really think he gives a ***** what anyone on here thinks? Seriously.
- mmmben, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1Does Dane Cook REALLY give a ***** that he sold his soul? Seriously.
Listen to Bill Hicks!
- mmmben, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1Does Dane Cook REALLY give a ***** that he sold his soul? Seriously.
- manicallday, on 01/31/2008, -33/+176Dane Cook is alright. But, He will never be a Mitch Hedberg.
- scotticus, on 01/31/2008, -4/+80Mitch wrote jokes.
- QueEsAmor, on 01/31/2008, -0/+51Unless the pen was too far away. Then he convinced himself that what he thought of ain't funny.
- jerstud56, on 01/31/2008, -0/+4Haha oh god. Mitch was so great.
For those that don't know who Mitch Hedberg is, or have not heard his jokes before...

- QueEsAmor, on 01/31/2008, -0/+51Unless the pen was too far away. Then he convinced himself that what he thought of ain't funny.
- crashingechelon, on 01/31/2008, -1/+23That's true and it's a shame Mitch had to die, he had a lot of potential for the future.
- craigatkinson, on 01/31/2008, -8/+8It's offensive to me that you would even mention the Great Mitch Hedberg in the same sentence as Dane Cook. I dugg your comment up anyway for the Mitch Hedberg reference. :)
- FatLoser, on 01/31/2008, -7/+2It's offensive to me that everybody fell in love with Mitch only after he died. He was a good, solid comedian, but he was no god. It's a shame he's gone, but there are plenty of other living comedians out there who are just as talented, with their own quirky brands of humor. Hedberg was probably one of the top 50, but not one of the top 10. Let's be realistic. Bill Hicks was a god. Mitch was a damn fine comedian. That's the distinction.
- manicallday, on 01/31/2008, -0/+5I went to a couple of his shows and they were hilarious. The best part was that we were just hanging outside when he came and rolled up and started talking to us. Really friendly guy.
- JoeDiggsIt, on 01/31/2008, -0/+3Bill Hicks' bit on drunk driving is one of the funniest things I have ever heard.
- Lisinity, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1No way did I fall in love with Mitch Hedberg after his death. I loved his comedic stylings. The reason why people like him so much isn't because he's dead or anything. It's probably because the jokes were so simple, and he was calm, and personable. People had friends like Mitch. Not too many people have friends like other comedians.
- darkwing81, on 01/31/2008, -1/+1Bill Hicks was one of the greatest ever.
- FatLoser, on 01/31/2008, -7/+2It's offensive to me that everybody fell in love with Mitch only after he died. He was a good, solid comedian, but he was no god. - Hobbes24, on 01/31/2008, -27/+6i know i'll get burried for this, but i hate Mitch Hedberg, and I can't understand why people think his heroine addicted ass was so funny.
"I was at a job interview the other day and they asked me where I saw myself in five years. I said, "Celebrating the anniversary of you askin' me this question!"
...hahaha....how is that funny? that sounds like something someone would say if they were just really high, and really stupid.- ClarkNoHeart, on 01/31/2008, -1/+12You're right; you will be buried.
- FatLoser, on 01/31/2008, -10/+2"that sounds like something someone would say if they were just really high, and really stupid."
Hence Digg's love affair with him. - reaganluver, on 01/31/2008, -2/+2Right, we're actually second class citizens and obviously unintelligent because we smoke weed. We, the stoners of digg, really wish that we were as awesome as you nonsmokers. Wow, I bet my life would be alot better if I would sit at home and be condescending to everyone whose lifestyle and culture are different. I mean, i suppose i could treat everyone individually and equitably, but how would i feel better about myself without calling others stupid?
- Hobbes24, on 01/31/2008, -1/+1ugh...i said high, AND stupid.
you're clearly pretty of the latter if you didn't get that.
i've gotten high before, i smoke weed a couple of times a year, not my thing, but whatever, i don't judge you because you smoke, i judge you because your clearly an idiot.
and i know stupid ***** gets funny when your high, like spongebob and venture bros, and you can't deny that.
- Hobbes24, on 01/31/2008, -1/+1ugh...i said high, AND stupid.
- sammypai, on 01/31/2008, -6/+10please don't use them in the same sentence. that's disrespectful. RIP Mitch
- thebellmaster1x, on 01/31/2008, -4/+24The closest we can get to Mitch today is Dimitri Martin.
Which, believe me, is not bad at all.
But still. Dimitri makes me laugh with delight, but there's still a Mitch-shaped hole missing in my laughter now, you know?- centran, on 01/31/2008, -3/+3Another that pops into my head is Gilbert Gottfried. All though he has a lot of dirt jokes.
All these guys are good joke tellers. Why? because they can do an entire stand-up of one-liners and still keep the audiences attention. That takes some serious talent.
I really like Dimitri because he can deliver the one-liners but he also mixes it in with the story-teller comedy. It is a good combination. - yfguitarist, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1Dimitri is funny, but I have a feeling that as soon as he explodes like Dane Cook did, it'll be cool to hate him as well.
- centran, on 01/31/2008, -3/+3Another that pops into my head is Gilbert Gottfried. All though he has a lot of dirt jokes.
- FatLoser, on 01/31/2008, -2/+2Here's an education in comedy for you young diggers: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=bill+h ...
- joe573, on 01/31/2008, -2/+1Bill Hicks is even unfunnier than Dane Cook.
- Falldog, on 01/31/2008, -2/+5But... but... Mitch doesn't use punchlines either!
- chix0r, on 01/31/2008, -0/+2But his one liners were actually FUNNY.
- sneedo, on 01/31/2008, -0/+2RIP Mitch :(
- hugeposuer, on 01/31/2008, -10/+1I think I'm the only one who thought Mitch Hedberg was one of the worst comedians ever. No segues, no delivery, no punchline.
But I'm not going to tell you to stop liking him.- 0260, on 01/31/2008, -1/+8actually ALL of his jokes are very by the text book with set up and punch line. you dont need elaborate story telling when the material is that good.
- hugeposuer, on 01/31/2008, -3/+1I bought a donut and they gave me a receipt.
HA HA HA - KorRyal, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1That's not exactly the entire joke. Some jokes can last longer than a single sentence, surprise surprise.
- hugeposuer, on 01/31/2008, -3/+1I bought a donut and they gave me a receipt.
- 0260, on 01/31/2008, -1/+8actually ALL of his jokes are very by the text book with set up and punch line. you dont need elaborate story telling when the material is that good.
- itsradBrad, on 01/31/2008, -0/+4Mitch was always my favorite comedian. Every since he slammed that tent flap.
I think I like his stuff because it was actually original, as you guys already pointed out. - papashawn, on 01/31/2008, -0/+3I don't think DC was ever trying to play the mitch hedberg angle...
thats like comparing apples to penguins.- lalilulelo, on 01/31/2008, -0/+2Apples and penguins both are used when trying to point out the fallacy in comparing seemingly dissimilar objects.
- scotticus, on 01/31/2008, -4/+80Mitch wrote jokes.
- fant0m, on 01/31/2008, -42/+15What I don't understand is how all of you can say he's not funny. I think he's funny - that's just my opinion. But you guys are blatantly saying he's not funny - like your opinion rules out the rest. OK, you don't like him... I get that. But to say he's not funny?
I think his bank account, and 2 million+ myspace fans - and the fans that aren't on myspace, beg to differ.- jkremer3, on 01/31/2008, -6/+21superfan^
- Merp08, on 01/31/2008, -3/+7agreed.
- fant0m, on 01/31/2008, -12/+7Not at all. I'm not forcing my opinion down your throat. I was just expressing my 2 cents.
- jkremer3, on 01/31/2008, -1/+13"I don't understand is how all of you can say he's not funny."
You don't understand how your opinion can be disagreed with? - amoirae, on 01/31/2008, -1/+2fant0m is overcharging...
- jkremer3, on 01/31/2008, -1/+13"I don't understand is how all of you can say he's not funny."
- BingoPower, on 01/31/2008, -6/+1There were a ***** of Nazis too. Did that make them right?
- ViktorVaughn, on 01/31/2008, -0/+4Godwin.
Didn't see that coming.- Lukesed, on 01/31/2008, -1/+4Godwin's law is stupid. This is a totally legit analogy. Did anyone see Employee of the Month? There has to be at least one crime against humanity there.
- ViktorVaughn, on 01/31/2008, -0/+3The same point could be made without comparing Dane Cook fans to nazis. You could point to the macarena, boy bands, the ubiquity of McDonalds for widespread trite banality.
I get the point, just because something is popular doesn't mean it's quality. I just think there are orders of magnitude of difference between the growing popularity of a mediocre "talent" and the spread of autocratic national socialism, even if the analogy is, on it's face, apt.
Even so, dugg for the crime against humanity joke. - Ajajadude, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1The reason I love Godwin's Law is because any retard can throw out a comparison to Nazis without using an ounce of brain power. Get a little more creative than "blah blah blah NAZIS blah blah blah." Hell, use Stalin. That's a breath of fresh air.
- ViktorVaughn, on 01/31/2008, -0/+3The same point could be made without comparing Dane Cook fans to nazis. You could point to the macarena, boy bands, the ubiquity of McDonalds for widespread trite banality.

- ViktorVaughn, on 01/31/2008, -0/+4Godwin.
- fantasticFlan, on 01/31/2008, -1/+5You think he's funny so you say "he's funny." I think he's not funny so I say "he's not funny." And that's how that works.
I'm not sure what you're trying to ask here. - Xelseragoth, on 01/31/2008, -1/+3The problem is that by your logic, the Backstreet boys, etc. are/were incredibly talented musicians... (ok, singers, whatever you get my point)
- jmk4422, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1If he was my best friend (and no, not in the MySpace sense but in the real life sense) I'd think he was funny. But as a professional comedian? He doesn't hold my interest. Never has. This "Dane Cook" phenomenon is the biggest fairy tale I've ever seen.
(I just pulled a Dane Cook, btw: I plagarised someone! Yay me!)
- jkremer3, on 01/31/2008, -6/+21superfan^
- moxillaq, on 01/31/2008, -26/+27Dugg for #3 by itself. The superfans are terrible because they're not even sure why they like Dane Cook. If they paid attention to Dane Cook's actual material sober, they may find themselves in for a world of unfunny shock.
- dropbox, on 01/31/2008, -1/+1Vicious Circle was like TRL on crack.
- Ajajadude, on 01/31/2008, -3/+2Hating someone because of *some* of the people who like him is quite, well, retarded. He makes me laugh and I don't give much of a ***** who doesn't like him. I do, however, find the Superfans quite annoying, to put it lightly. Especially when he makes fun of them and they just scream louder.
- techie4life, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1i don't buy any name-brand products because they all have super-fans aka fan boys. nothing is worse then laughing at a joke because the fans of that comedian are annoying!!!

I think he's more annoying if you watch him on TV instead of just listening.- MacEnvy, on 01/31/2008, -4/+13I agree. His TV shows are obnoxious but I enjoy his sets on XM occasionally. I think the fact that it's audio helps filter out some of the douchebagginess.
- sinrtb, on 01/31/2008, -5/+1I tend to like him in his movies haven't seen good luck chuck yet but other movies hes been in have been good. And i agree that watching his live routine his harmful but just the audio is alot better. It wasn't till i listened to his work that I made the connection to who he was as an actor.
- suzywang3000, on 01/31/2008, -17/+8never heard of him...
- arcooke, on 01/31/2008, -3/+14Lucky you.
- adr4, on 01/31/2008, -20/+23Is "because he's a frat-boy douche-bag,) a good enough reason?
- Ajajadude, on 01/31/2008, -2/+3I know frat guys. I've had to share an on-campus apartment with 3 frat guys. He's not a frat guy.

- BigLLamasHouse, on 01/31/2008, -19/+132Dane Cook pales in comparison to Dave Chappelle. Pun intended
- scotticus, on 01/31/2008, -5/+50That joke is worse than anything Dane Cook ever wrote or stole.
- BigLLamasHouse, on 01/31/2008, -0/+0thanks, i try
- Ajajadude, on 01/31/2008, -23/+2So, Dane Cook isn't funny, but some cracked out black dude who only jokes about race (sounds like Mencia) and drugs is?
Of course, I might not like Chappelle because I had to hear "I'm James Brown, bitch!" about 5.4 million times...and counting.- AbsurdParadox, on 01/31/2008, -0/+23Apparently you didn't hear it enough, since its Rick James, lmao
- mal1964, on 01/31/2008, -3/+3I'm guessing he did know it was Rick James.
- supermajic, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1You're thinking of Chris Rock.
- BigLLamasHouse, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1ahahahaha! I'm james brown bitch, i got soul, and i'm superbaaad
- stnkyme, on 01/31/2008, -0/+9awww come on. dave chapelle is ***** awesome man
- mal1964, on 01/31/2008, -1/+3Yeah, they're like night and day. But for anyone to go ahead and actually say it, is another story. You sure went out on a limb with that comment.
- stilesja, on 01/31/2008, -9/+1Sorry, but Chappelle jumped the shark like 500 re-runs on comedy central ago. But to give him credit, he wisely saw he was becoming a parody of himself through his own TV show and bailed.
- irstoopd, on 01/31/2008, -1/+5How can you say he jumped the shark when they're re-runs? It's like me playing a tape of Mitch Hedberg (RIP, best comic ever) and saying he jumped the shark postmortem. Dave Chappelle is absolutely awesome, corporate America tried to take his comedy away, and him getting out of the business is what makes him that much more awesome.
- stilesja, on 02/01/2008, -0/+1Hey I don't make the rules. He jumped the shark because I say he did. Example: Who hears an old Monty Python sketch quoted thinks "God if I have to hear that one more time I'll puke"?? Ok, now who hears some drunk ***** say "I'm rick james, bitch!" and thinks that??? Aha! Check and Mate, I win, he jumped the shark. Say hi to Fonzie.
- irstoopd, on 01/31/2008, -1/+5How can you say he jumped the shark when they're re-runs? - jamesb0i, on 01/31/2008, -2/+2then you obviously fit into that category "you hate him cause he's famous"
- UmpUmp, on 01/31/2008, -9/+12i'm under the belief a comedic "bait and switch" occurred or hell, even a classic case of "trading places"...one GREAT black comedian dissapears (Dave Chappelle) and then secretly swap him out with this idiot... damn, dane sucks.
- plunderphonics, on 01/31/2008, -0/+13yea, that's the way i felt about Chappelle's Show for Mind of Mencia....

- reaganluver, on 01/31/2008, -0/+2I thought it was broah

- xsquirrel378x, on 01/31/2008, -5/+10louis CK and marc maron FTW. they dont have to try to be funny or rip off new material for lols, they already know they're hilarious
- JRW5061, on 01/31/2008, -0/+5louis CK is one of my favorites. I think Lewis Black has some really funny stand up too
- brainboy77, on 01/31/2008, -16/+106. He's a red sox fan.
- doshindude, on 01/31/2008, -16/+18Submitted by MrBabyMan....
- omarciddo, on 01/31/2008, -4/+15Yes. Either bury it or just don't digg it, and move on with your life.
- renegadeafk, on 01/31/2008, -7/+10Who gives a ***** who submitted the story, if you like it, digg it.
- MasterPlayer, on 01/31/2008, -14/+4I'm undecided about Dane Cook, his You Suck at Photoshop series is awesome, even though I doubt he writes it.
- harusp3x, on 01/31/2008, -1/+7Mostly because he doesn't and where did you get such a ridiculous brain?
- Landeyda, on 01/31/2008, -2/+13It's not even his voice. The guy who made it even put a visual joke about it in one of the episodes, since everyone kept saying he sounded like Dane Cook.
People need to stop insulting him by saying he sounds like the unfunny assclown Cook.
- omarciddo, on 01/31/2008, -8/+15Dane Cook is humorous, not funny the way a comedian should be. He delivers the kind of funny that you would expect from someone in everyday life. To me that's a fun person, but I think a comedian should have more to him than that. His latest album was absolutely horrific though, not because his jokes were bad, but because for whatever reason they turned up the volume on the orgasming women every time he said two words. Completely impossible to retain sanity with that going on.
- yfguitarist, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1I'm going to be one of the few that still thinks that his old stuff is still hilarious. I watched a set of him on Insomniac and I laughed until I cried. This is coming from a fan of Mitch Hedberg, Dimitri Martin, Ray Romano, and Jerry Seinfeld.
- hpymondays, on 01/31/2008, -8/+2About 10 times worse than Dane Cook is Jim Norton - obnoxious, disgusting and..... not funny. What happened to the times when comedians were required to be funny?
- theuber1337, on 01/31/2008, -0/+4They were never required to be funny. Just, only the funny ones are remembered today. This is why arguably in 20 years no one will remember Dane Cook, but people will still be talking about Richard Pryor.
- REUYL, on 01/31/2008, -16/+36I'll sum this whole list up in one statement:
He's not funny.- stilesja, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1Dane had a few good jokes and knew how to ride the MySpace pony and rally up some solid support from those lamers, but honestly he was over before he began. I caught on to him kind of early and actually went see viscious circle filmed live. At the end of that concert I basically thought: "Well that guy was a one hit wonder..." After getting all the attention, he just couldn't follow up. Plus all his movies have sucked balls.
- JRW5061, on 01/31/2008, -11/+5I don't know why everyone complains about him. If you don't like him don't listen or watch his comedy. While I think he may be over rated as a comedian I still think his stuff is really funny. A lot of his stuff really makes me laugh and isn't that what comedy is all about?
- sampanc, on 01/31/2008, -3/+2Agreed. Although I find his routine a little overly done. The people that religiously hate him are no different than his superfans.
- blate, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1If you read a transcript of someone's comedy show and are unable to almost crack a smile, then that person isn't a comedian. He would be put in the same category as a jester or a mime. He may make you laugh, but so would a 2-year old falling in the toilet
- JRW5061, on 01/31/2008, -0/+0a laugh is a laugh
- reaganluver, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1I think the guy's whole point is to put Mr. Cook in perspective, and, in the perspective of comedy as a whole, he's near the bottom third talentwise.
- joshuagor44, on 01/31/2008, -26/+39I laugh at his standup, and that's all that matters. I like him.
- gmiley, on 01/31/2008, -15/+7I like how people digg others down for not sharing the same opinion. I may not like Dane Cook, but I am digging you back up to try to mitigate the douchebags.
- joshuagor44, on 01/31/2008, -3/+13Thanks, but I pretty much expected to be dugg down.
- almj, on 01/31/2008, -1/+7I like him too dude. The first time I heard his stuff, I don't think I've ever laughed so hard in my life!
- TBoneFever, on 01/31/2008, -0/+5/agree ...I had never laughed so hard in my life as well. I just don't understand why Digg is pressuring us into hating Dane Cook. Someone who ISN'T funny wouldn't sell as many albums as he has. 'Nuff said.
- gmiley, on 01/31/2008, -15/+7I like how people digg others down for not sharing the same opinion. I may not like Dane Cook, but I am digging you back up to try to mitigate the douchebags.
- yacks, on 01/31/2008, -7/+3LOL down.. and I love the page..

It seems your account is currently using too much CPU / Memory time. However, you still have access to:
yeah Unmetered Bandwidth means nothing in this case. - active1x0, on 01/31/2008, -10/+5Oh no, I hate stories by MBM, but I also hate Dane Cook......
MAI HEAD ASPLODE (also, Dugg.)- Rethcir, on 01/31/2008, -1/+1Lolcats is the dane cook of the internet. I'm burying you.
- vagrantwade, on 01/31/2008, -5/+31#1 reason to hate Dane Cook. Good luck chuck. That movie was so ***** terrible.
- tgc1, on 01/31/2008, -5/+0So because you think it was bad, I should think it was bad? I didn't think it was so bad. Does that make me bad?
- reaganluver, on 01/31/2008, -0/+7no that just means you have bad taste.
- futebollounge, on 01/31/2008, -0/+2not thinking it was bad makes you HORRIBLE.
- tgc1, on 01/31/2008, -5/+0So because you think it was bad, I should think it was bad? I didn't think it was so bad. Does that make me bad?
- Gogogo111, on 01/31/2008, -25/+11I think hes funny. He offers a different type of style of comedy.
Bury me.- YamiJim, on 01/31/2008, -1/+6lol "different"
- Haz3rd, on 01/31/2008, -1/+7Different style of comedy meaning loud noises and hand gestures?
- ViktorVaughn, on 01/31/2008, -2/+6Yes, sucking is indeed a type of style.
- thirty6chambers, on 01/31/2008, -2/+1everything is different if you haven't heard much.
- dropbox, on 01/31/2008, -2/+0More like "special" with a kid named Ed shortly behind.
- DuxBelorum, on 01/31/2008, -3/+2I'm going to say it too, I like Dane Cook. Feel free to bury me (I know you want to).
You all have your opinion though and I have mine. Just because you don't like his comedy doesn't mean he isn't funny to some. On the same note however, just because I feel he is funny doesn't mean anyone else has to agree.
- homerj1965, on 01/31/2008, -14/+9He Sucks!!
- amawg9, on 01/31/2008, -4/+34I've never seen a comedian not make a room laugh for 8 minutes straight and still think... "you know what, I'll stay on stage for another 45".
- timewarp424, on 01/31/2008, -4/+10That's interesting. Whether or not he's funny, that's certainly your own opinion. But his ability to make people laugh, I don't think should be in question. At the Target Center, which was sold out, he had most of the crowd laughing almost immediately. He has a style that's his own. Some comedic "supremacist" think that jokes need to be intelligent or well thought out. However, humor hasn't always been that way; think back to the three stooges. He can make people laugh.
It's not that cool to be a Dane Cook hater. How about you like who you like and get on with your life?

- evildread, on 01/31/2008, -20/+0Dane cook IS one of the better comedians, but some of his material could be better.
There should be one of these about Carlos Mencia.- scotticus, on 01/31/2008, -1/+11You don't know comedy. Dane isn't even top 50.
- se1zure, on 01/31/2008, -1/+1on comedy central he is.
