- thecatisdead, on 10/12/2007, -5/+77Whoah. Sit back and think about that for a moment before you type. I don't see the other major religions saying that:
1) Parents shouldn't care for children, because children are in fact little adults and can take care of themselves. (Children are forced to work at jobs ranging from shovelling coal to shuffling paper for the 'church')
2) Right after you are injured (say, a burn from the stove) you must push the injured body part back onto whatever injured it (the stove) and all of the negative energy will be transfered back into whatever caused the injury (the stove). Shoving your hand back into the stove that burned it is supposed to heal the burn, according to Scientology.
3) Silent Birth is a good idea - so that evil vibes from adult voices don't ruin the child for the rest of his/her life.
4) Tom Cruise is sane.
There is more, but if my comment were too long you wouldn't read it ;-P. - oGMo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+36@arcrox: "Agnostic" means "I don't know," as in "I'm not professing anything but I'm not ruling anything out." If you're truly agnostic, I'd think you'd be *considerate* of every religion, because you don't know: any of them might be right!
- arcrox, on 10/12/2007, -16/+42Which is why, as an agnostic, I enjoy poking fun at everyone's religions
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -33/+57Wait -- Gretta Van Sustren (the stupid tool from Fox News that does an hour long "missing white girl" show every night) is a Scientologist? That would be ***** hilarious if she really is.
Anyway . . .
The best thing about Scientology is that as stupid and idiotic and obvious as it is, Christians and people of other "acceptable" religions laugh and point fingers at what a silly "religion" it is, as if theirs isn't. It's just ridiculous and hypocritical. Your beliefs are no different than the greeks and their gods or the indians and theirs or wiccans and their beliefs. Yours are just different and shared by more people (currently). That doesn't make it a "valid" belief. It only makes it the latest "winning" belief. So when you watch these Scientology tools and read about them, remember before poking fun at them that your beliefs probably aren't all that much different -- when viewed by other rational people who have outgrown the santa clause phase. - shogunu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16A really, really bad sci-fi book that is.
- shad0w, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Warren Jeffs uses the same arguments you just posted to defend his cult of monogamy.
Scientology is a cult. Read this interview of Hubbard's son regarding the true practices of Scientology:
http://www.xenutv.com/us/2020-1.htm
Although the site itself is obviously biased against Scientology, the interview is from 20/20 and it is genuine. - SIDSI, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14"Writing for a penny a word is ridiculous. If a man really wants to make a million dollars, the best way would be to start his own religion." L. Ron Hubbard
- oGMo, on 10/12/2007, -9/+22"That doesn't make it a "valid" belief. It only makes it the latest "winning" belief."
And you believe yours isn't? Don't think your viewpoint, whatever it is, is any less a viewpoint, founded on any fewer leaps of faith.
Also, mainstream religions are not founded on brainwashing sessions, squeezing every last bit of money out of followers, and making "fair game" of anyone who speaks out against it. Seriously, if you think mainstream religion is anything like Scientology, then your only exposure to religion is silly television representations. - Haroldx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12tomorrow? too late.
ha.
Digg really has a thing for scientology. - borninda818, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11lol..when this gets on the front page tomorow, expect to find tom cruize and 4 of his lawers in your closet.
- daldredge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Their habit of suing those that view their religious texts with out their permission may be one reason...
- Bytor, on 10/12/2007, -10/+20All have elements of cultism/brainwashing. Take Islam. Everyone has to pray 5 times a day. That is reinforced brainwashing with massive peer pressure. Religion is non rational plain and simple. Anyone who is religious and makes fun of other religions is a no mind hypocrite.
I am an atheist and they all strike me as looney. From Xenu worshipping Scientoligists, to Christians waiting for the Rapture and leaving notes for those "left behind". - oxigen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12This is true, what Seumas said. I however, don't laugh at scientologists for believing in thetans or alien warlords - after all the belief that Jesus was the son of God is pretty audacious too - I laugh at them and call them silly for their sheer inability to see what a complete scam scientology is. I'm not bashing faiths at all, if someone wants to worship a God that's a giant bunny that ***** ice cream - that's fine and dandy, but as pointed out in that south park episode (which is now up for an emmy I hear?) it's wrong when your church members are required to spend so much of their money on useless things. People voluntarily give money to Christian churches, but that's their own voluntary donation. You don't see Christians paying $500 to go to confession, or $250 for a bible.
When it comes to Scientology, I think people get cought up in it because they are desperate to find meaning for their lives (TOM CRUISE), and awaken their spirit. But enlightenment isn't in a book, or in an auditing mach-gizmo.
There's an old buddhist saying I like: One night the Buddha pointed out into the sky, and mentioned the beauty of the moon. But be careful, he said, not to mistake his finger for the moon. - born, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9http://theunfunnytruth.ytmnd.com/
http://theunfunnysequel.ytmnd.com/ - manageMyRights, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9As Steven Colbert says: "Aren't Agnostics just Athiests without balls?"
- thecatisdead, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8@icefrakker - And Scientologists don't? Tom Cruise certainly seems like he buys into it. *shudders*
- thecatisdead, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9oGMo is right, why is he/she being buried? I don't think the comment was offensive...
- jzimmerman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I think Douglas Adams' views on agnosticism vs atheism are well put.
You can get a glimpse of Douglas Adams' "beliefs" in the following interview transcript:

Lol how do you unreport a story!?
Oh well - hypersoar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5That was from when Stephen Colbert was on the Daily Show.
- flashpointbob, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11i have converted... all because of Beck
- meekar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5not Nancy Cartwright! NOOOO!!!!!!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Bytor: Youve been watching "The God who wasnt there" havent you :D Great documentary that.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5As an ex-mormon, (I was raised mormon) I can tell you very confidently, that this episode of south park is wrong. They altered and modified many parts of the story, which also MUCH shorter than the real thing. I won't go pointing it all out, since the text limit would be met before I would be finished.
I have studied and read the Book of Mormon, the new and old Testaments, the Torah and the Koran. Because of my studies, I learned many other facets of popular and modern religion (Western and otherwise) to be flawed.
But again, I will state that this cartoon is not accurate in depicting the Story of the begginings of the LDS church. If you really want to slander a religion, you should study it. Otherwise you won't know why it is farce.
Funny though, I laughed hard at the water balloon part... That part is true sadly, they really do pretty much act happy all day long and night. Haha...(Who wants to learn about the impact of alchohol on family life!!!!) ROFL - snupples, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9"Also, mainstream religions are not founded on brainwashing sessions,"
ogmo, you've obviously never been to a christian summer youth camp. Many kids go to these and don't have any idea for the better.
All the classic techniques of brainwashing are applied -- very little sleep, constant group psychological pressure (very little privacy and almost no free time), heavy physical activity (sports and games) broken up with bible indoctrination sessions, followed by "evening services" that are a whole lesson in brainwashing by themselves. - scott1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@thecatisdead
You forgot a few
5)Anyone who belevies in scientology is sane
6)The only way to become sane is if you belevie in scientology
7)According to the laws of physiscs by putting aliens on a volcano and dentoe a hydrogen bomb you will be able to create ghost aliens where they live inside of people causing pain and suffering. - athenius22, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Check out some of the videos on xenutv.com and form your own opinion. Or for a less biased approach, google "scientology" and see how many positive pages you find (besides the official site).
I too wondered what the big deal was until I saw the way this "church" acts. It is truly disheartening. - akira117, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I think Oprah is a Scientologist. I don't think she will ever come out publicly until she is done w/ her show.
Because she has so much Christian people watching her show it would be a bad move to do it publicly.
Some reading material on the subject:

http://www.lermanet.com/cos/comedy.html - cquinnd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I don't think she has been identified as a scientologist. Link please?
- peritonlogon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3My 2 cents on Scientology is this, I don't think, when it comes to religion absurdity or farfetchedness are any criteria whatsoever to judge one, or the extremely different or non-mainstream or counter-intuitive concept for how to live one's life. And I say this not as an apologist, but as an empiricist. However, my serious problem with Scientology is its aggressive defense of its own image at the expense of truth and the ***** of people who have done no wrong save exercise their freedom to speak.

That's right, the guy from the Jay and Silent Bob movies as well as Almost Famous.
I know...hard to believe. - scott1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's a reilgon based on sci-fi mythology that Tom curise has taken seorisly(he is basically the Mascott of it now).
That's all you need to know about scientology. - steal_apps01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Scientology is scary *****, when the first story came up I red up on it for 2 hours after that I was scared so much and freaked out that I couldn't sleep, I red and Watched interviews about former scientologists is scary FYI i'm 16 and a Roman Catholic but not a big church goer.
- akira117, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I accidentally reported my story a dupe....
Meant to report another.... :(
They should add that feature. Cuz now my story is grayed out for me. :( - cdmarcus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It appears that the Daily Show is the new Ubuntu on Digg... not that I'm complaining :)
- lemorex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I am waiting for Digg to get the PDF of the books of Scientology

LMAO. So kids staying up late, playing games, etc., is brainwashing? Funny, I thought that's what kids liked to do. I didn't know it, but apparently basketball camp was brainwashing too! - steve693, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Really? Beck. . .yah. . Beck. . .
- omnithought, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, they're the ones that join up just to bury stories that expose/criticize/poke fun at Scientology.
- Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Come on, now, Scientology is just as valid as Flying Spaghetti Monster! Do not tempt his noodly wrath!
- repentantfan, on 03/25/2008, -0/+2@Bytor
"Christians waiting for the Rapture and leaving notes for those "left behind".
Are you basing your statement on the Left Behind series or silly television representations? The Left Behind series is fiction by the authors' designation.
Don't base your belief about a religion based on the believers, but on the doctrine itself. - akira117, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why would you compare Flying Spaghetti Monster to Scientology!?
Just because your not a Pastafarian doesn't mean you have to put us down like that!
WWFSMD?
