I've been saying for years that he was faking it after I saw the "Blue Collar Comedy Tour" and heard him fake what he later termed a "gay" accent. It was way too clear and intelligible for him to have a natural hick accent. I'm from Oklahoma, I should know.

Comedy is performance, just like any other style of acting. The only difference is, comics are expected to put up with hecklers where other performers are not.
I'll agree, he couldn't be any less funny to me in character or out but, he's a performer and a successful one who writes his own material. I think you have to have some level of respect for the man, whether you dig his schtick or not.

If you have ever read the letter David Cross letter that he send the Cable Guy in a response to an attack on him, it pretty much highlights everything that is wrong with Larry.
