- ivanmarsh, on 04/10/2009, -0/+45I can't believe how stupid NASA is being about this. With American interest in the space program at an all time low and two of the three last memorable moments in NASA history being Space Shuttle explosions, turning their backs on Colbert when he's brought positive interest in space exploration to his audience is pure idiocy. Guess where the last interview with an astronaut I watched was... it was on the Report. Egghead's with much more brains than I have shouldn't be so freaking dumb. Name it the Colbert Node, put his damn picture on the side of it and make sure one of the cameras catches a glimpse of that picture every once in a while and put the camera on the web. People with no interest in NASA that have an interest in Colbert might just read or learn something about space while they're on the site trying to get a look at Colbert in space.Perhaps trying so hard to maintain the prestigious and serious face of the space program is what's putting it in jeopardy. You can't tell me there's no room for humor in the infinite vacuum of space.
- Zervaman, on 04/10/2009, -2/+43Dammit NASA just ***** call the entire module COLBERT and be done with it!
- Glenners, on 04/10/2009, -0/+34They're supposed to name the whole node after him!! when did the arguement switch to 'come on nasa just respect the public nd name the toilet after him" no, respect the public and name the NODE after him!!
- coondoggie, on 04/09/2009, -1/+23NASA needs to get wit hthe program here....
- PanicAK, on 04/10/2009, -2/+22***** that. Call it Battletoad.
- Calcularius, on 04/10/2009, -2/+12If I had known it was a toilet I would have voted to name it "Dick Cheney's Black Hole of ***** Suckage"
- inactive, on 04/10/2009, -2/+10The node itself is a urine recycling node, so the whole thing is basically toilet-related. I don't see the problem here. If it were living quarters or scientific research or something, I'd understand wanting a somber tone, but for *****'s sake, it recycles urine. An important function, to be sure, but Jesus, a little levity here won't kill anyone.
- Asay, on 04/10/2009, -0/+8I can't believe its even an issue. If they weren't ready to name it after the vote than whats the point. Follow through with the contest and then never have a contest like it again if they are really that butthurt about it.
- freakstyle571, on 04/10/2009, -1/+9How dare you attempt to make "Colbert" the next "John"!
- sonicpentatonic, on 04/10/2009, -0/+7But his humor isn't "I'm an idiot" humor. His humor is "look how ridiculous I sound while I act exactly like the biggest right-wing figure-heads of our day". This is also known as satire.
- inactive, on 04/09/2009, -1/+8Sh..t! Sh..t!
- Toast1185, on 04/10/2009, -0/+7I needed a new heel for my shoe, so, I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on ‘em. ‘Give me five bees for a quarter,’ you’d say.
Now where were we? Oh yeah - the important thing was I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn’t have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones - inactive, on 04/10/2009, -0/+5You say that like it's a bad thing.
- RogerStrong, on 04/10/2009, -0/+4Incorrect. The Space Frontier Foundation got it wrong too.
Node 3 is so-called because it's used to join other modules together. Its dominent feature is the observation cupola that'll be mounted on one of the docking ports.
Only one rack inside Node 3 is used to recycle human waste. Other racks are used for robotics, recycling, etc. - FaithclubDotNet, on 04/10/2009, -1/+5I don't think the majority would agree with you.
- eh123, on 04/10/2009, -1/+5A Colbert toilet would go great with my Jon Stewart urinal.
- scott1, on 04/10/2009, -0/+3NASA needs to make up for this.
Send Colbert to space! - RogerStrong, on 04/10/2009, -0/+3There's no contest to name the toilet. The Space Frontier Foundation got that wrong.
They're naming Node 3. *One* of the things it does is waste recycling. - ivanmarsh, on 04/10/2009, -0/+3Except that now either way they decide they're going to look like jerks.
If you're going to have a contest and put something up for a vote you should be prepared to abide by the result of that vote. - RogerStrong, on 04/10/2009, -0/+3It's an innaccurate report. They're not naming a "recyc node".
Node 3 is so-called because it's used to join other modules together. Its dominent feature is the observation cupola that'll be mounted on one of the docking ports.
Only one rack inside Node 3 is used to recycle human waste. Other racks are used for robotics, recycling, etc.
It's like calling the Serenity a toilet because it happens to have one in it. The Space Frontier Foundation didn't do their homework. - Maddoktor2, on 04/10/2009, -1/+4Serenity was a good ship. They shouldn't name a urine recyc node after her. That's just wrong.
- swerwerwer, on 04/10/2009, -1/+3Its a little ridiculous to compare Rush Limbaugh and Stephen Colbert... Rush would never admit he was anything other than a Good American. In reality he is purely a racist, drug addicted, bitter hack who is "shocking" for entertainment. Stephen is a comedian! Who plays a character! And mocks everyone in the media and politics not to indoctrinate people with a certain political view but to make satire of current times.
- twiztidsinz, on 04/10/2009, -0/+2Gotcha.
- Maddoktor2, on 04/10/2009, -0/+2So much for The Space Frontier Foundation's credibility...
- Shadic, on 04/10/2009, -1/+2What makes Colbert a *****, exactly?
That's what I thought. ***** you. - yissgtrleetaken, on 04/10/2009, -0/+1In Space, no one can hear the voice of the people
http://photo.bergertom.com/colbertprotest.jpg - FearlessFreep, on 04/10/2009, -1/+2Now just think if you'd like the next IIS module named "Limbaugh"
- Shadic, on 04/10/2009, -1/+2And you still haven't come up with an answer.
- jikmo, on 04/10/2009, -0/+1Ha, if this passes and they end up naming the node COLBERT, then I'll start calling restrooms Colberts.
- BCPneumatics, on 04/10/2009, -0/+1"How was your day, son?"
"Not good. I got expelled for smoking in the Colbert."
"You did what now?" - freakstyle571, on 04/10/2009, -1/+2Buried because the Colbert Nation is harmless and is injecting humor into peoples lives.
- medlakeguy, on 04/10/2009, -0/+1is it? is it really?
- inactive, on 04/10/2009, -1/+2If Limbaugh uses his influence to alter a vote and wins, I have no problem with that. I can't stand the douche bag, but if he wins fairly, I'm not gonna hold it against him. Bush won fairly in 2004, and despite my utter loathing of him, I had to concede that the people had voted for him.
- inactive, on 04/10/2009, -2/+3***** you too- you didn't wait for an answer.
- dudeabides420, on 04/10/2009, -0/+1The other bitter hack is someone who can't stand a large liberal voice... that someone, is you...
- elryanoo, on 04/10/2009, -0/+1Alright now the module is named after a maxi pad brand...
- inactive, on 04/10/2009, -1/+2Argumentum ad populum.
- theanticrust1, on 04/10/2009, -0/+1You're absolutely right. And if NASA does name the node after him... he will bring it up constantly! Just like we get updates on his bird and other things. Every couple weeks we'll get to hear an update on the ISS and the Colbert Node.
- BCPneumatics, on 04/10/2009, -0/+1I'd like to see them name it Colbert but the people who built it may feel like they had a child and let the public pick a name. Instead of "Greg" or "Mark" the public told them they should name their child "Deathbringer". A cool name, no doubt, but it is probably very from what they were expecting, or wanted. That being said, "Colbert" doesn't seem bad at all. Hell, I voted for it.
- JonForTheWin, on 04/10/2009, -0/+1Nation, why do our friends at NASA hate America?
- dsmx, on 04/10/2009, -1/+2Why stop there? Just rename the stephan colbert station, you know he won't stop at one module.
- ivanmarsh, on 04/10/2009, -0/+0It's ironic that your comment is being dugg down. The real world sucks for you doesn't it.
- ErickStevenson, on 04/10/2009, -6/+6It actually doesn't sound so bad though.... I'll be back, I'm gonna use the Colbert....kind of like a Bidet... just rolls off the tongue...
- inactive, on 04/10/2009, -1/+1wat
- Eturnal, on 04/10/2009, -0/+0Since when did liberals have a large radio/television voice!? Aren't the liberals trying to stifle conservative talk radio with Fairness Doctrines and the like because no one wants to tune in and hear the liberal agenda/message? I'm guessing Rush and Hannity have more listeners than any liberal radio host...
Next time you twist my words, make sure you have your facts straight. - inactive, on 04/10/2009, -3/+3I think it should be called Serenity. It fits better.
- Hppunch, on 04/10/2009, -0/+0This article is wrong in a few places. The contest was not to name the toilet, it was to name the entire node. It is much more than a toilet. Heres the Nasa site: http://www.nasa.gov/externalflash/name_ISS/index.h ...
There is a rumor that they will name a toilet after Colbert.
"As it became clear that "Colbert" was likely to win the popular vote, NASA insiders told SPACE.com, agency personnel floated the idea of naming the station's new toilet "Colbert."
NASA spokesman John Yembrick said the Node 3 naming decision would not be made until April and that the "highest voted names" were receiving the most consideration."
"As for the toilet rumor, we don't want to flush away any goodwill by announcing something before we are ready," Yembrick said.--- From:
http://www.space.com/entertainment/090324-colbert- ...
Also I'm pretty sure Nasa did not choose Serenity because of Firefly, but that is probably why it won.
"The name should reflect the spirit of exploration and cooperation embodied by the space station, and follow in the tradition set by Node 1- Unity- and Node 2- Harmony."-- From: http://www.nasa.gov/externalflash/name_ISS/index.h ... - legsmccoy, on 04/10/2009, -0/+0GO COLBERT!
WOOOOOOOOO!
loosen up people, it's funny. - mytealjacket, on 04/10/2009, -0/+0Don't know why you're being dug down, I thought the same thing. They do have PR people of course!
