Nation Agrees Not To Talk About Politics
theonion.com — After months of fevered and contentious political discourse, the U.S. populace unanimously agreed Monday that, before somebody gets upset and things get out of hand, it would be better to just stop talking about politics altogether.

- wynja, on 04/19/2008, -24/+4Not the nation. Just the MSM.
- jwoelmer2, on 04/20/2008, -2/+1I love the onion, don't you?
- wynja, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1I love the onion, and apparently no one on this site can take a ***** joke in the threads either.
- jwoelmer2, on 04/20/2008, -2/+1I love the onion, don't you?
- kinseyincanada, on 04/19/2008, -17/+4Finally
- killbert24, on 04/19/2008, -19/+8Right... like the average American just LOVES to talk about politics with their friends and family in the first place. Most people just keep political opinion to themselves since it just leads to flame wars.
- NeoSporin, on 04/19/2008, -2/+6Digg him down all you want, but to a certain degree its definitely true.
- Doitdifferently, on 04/19/2008, -1/+3*nods* I may not like it and it's not true with most of my good friends but even among them most get burnt out on talking about politics rather quickly..
- NeoSporin, on 04/19/2008, -2/+6Digg him down all you want, but to a certain degree its definitely true.
- karolisonline, on 04/19/2008, -11/+1does comments are also banned as bonus to the "no politics anymore"?
- Modizzle, on 04/19/2008, -21/+8Does that mean no more Obama articles on Digg??? Woo hoo! P.S. I'm not a conservative red neck, just sick of every little piece of crap news about Obama littering the front page. I used to like the guy, now the sight of his name makes me cringe.
- RedPhalanx, on 04/19/2008, -8/+5Amen. My opinion of Obama went from "he's a nice guy" to "EXTREME DO NOT WANT" mostly because of the blatant bias of the Digg community.
- N256, on 04/19/2008, -2/+11That's silly. Why don't you base a candidate by the candidate and now how Digg things of them?
- richporter, on 04/19/2008, -0/+8Their brain might explode if they have to think for themselves.
- Kerrigore, on 04/19/2008, -0/+1It's more likely than you think! I tried it once and my brain exploded all over the place... took forever to clean it out of my keyboard. But it's OK, now I'm a conservative.
- Modizzle, on 04/20/2008, -1/+1Your brain might explode if you learned how to read and think critically. I never said that I don't have any personally formed opinions on Obama, and neither did RedPhalax. Second, furthermore, RedPhalanx said his opinion went south mostly because of digg bias. Mostly means 51% or more, so a significant part of his opinion about Obama, whatever it is, could have been formed by sources other than digg. Unless you're saying that Digg bias (in the form of a constant barrage of articles like "Ruffles Potato chip resembles Barack Obama!" or "5th grade student claims teacher said Obama Bin Laden while discussing 9/11 in class, principal refuses to take action!!!!") affecting 51% of your opinion is unreasonable or silly. Even if you were saying that, you're assuming that at 49% or less of personally formed opinions from sources other than digg are insignificant, which is an opinion that certainly doesn't have any base.
So, to summarize, before you go off criticizing someone for their thoughts, at least have viewpoints that aren't unjustifiably stupid yourself.
- Modizzle, on 04/20/2008, -0/+1Like I said in another post. Nobody ever said they don't have independent opinions on Obama (which might be based on the candidate himself), and the direct quote you're replying to says "mostly" which means his opinions might be at most 49% of a result of independent opinions based on info from sights other than digg, like opinions based on the candidate himself, and that 49% or even 1% might be more than 100% of your independently formed opinion.
- richporter, on 04/19/2008, -0/+8Their brain might explode if they have to think for themselves.
- N256, on 04/19/2008, -1/+1whops, *thinks
- N256, on 04/19/2008, -1/+1I give up.
- MillionsLivio, on 04/19/2008, -0/+3You've learned a valuable lesson,
- N256, on 04/19/2008, -1/+1I give up.
- N256, on 04/19/2008, -2/+11That's silly. Why don't you base a candidate by the candidate and now how Digg things of them?
- RedPhalanx, on 04/19/2008, -8/+5Amen. My opinion of Obama went from "he's a nice guy" to "EXTREME DO NOT WANT" mostly because of the blatant bias of the Digg community.
- matschig, on 04/19/2008, -21/+4Barack Obama is black, and Hillary Clinton is white. That is all the information the American public needs to know. Anything more and lives will be lost. I am deadly serious here.
- brooklotzkar, on 04/19/2008, -1/+1WTF do you mean by that?
- matschig, on 04/19/2008, -7/+0I think you and everyone else here know precisely what i mean when i say that. Don't understand? Then ***** leave.
- brooklotzkar, on 04/19/2008, -1/+2Nope, so tell us what you mean. I mean, you seem to have valuable information, including the fact that video games contribute greatly to violence in today's society :S
Haha, no seriously though. Your *****.- matschig, on 04/19/2008, -4/+0I'm '*****'....? What exactly do you mean by this?
Additionally, as stated previously, if you don't understand what i mean and need additional information that i am obviously not willing to disclose, than i now politely ask you to leave.- brooklotzkar, on 04/19/2008, -0/+1Don't understand? Then ***** leave.
It seems everyone else needs more information because they have no idea what you saying - matschig, on 04/19/2008, -3/+0No, i understand what you mean now. Thank you though.
- brooklotzkar, on 04/19/2008, -0/+1Don't understand? Then ***** leave.
- str1fe, on 04/19/2008, -0/+1I think you and everyone else here know precisely what he means that he says that.
- matschig, on 04/19/2008, -2/+0Indeed i do because of our correspondence through E-Mail. I'm not sure 'everyone else here' knows though, as i have promptly deleted each message he has sent me.
- matschig, on 04/19/2008, -4/+0I'm '*****'....? What exactly do you mean by this?
- stephenmeb, on 04/19/2008, -2/+1Obama is half black and half white, although race shouldn't matter. "Anything more and lives will be lost" WTF?
- matschig, on 04/19/2008, -3/+0Please refer to my second post for further instructions.
- sassip, on 04/19/2008, -1/+2Listen sonny, you joined Digg two days ago. Simmer down and take the cotton out of your ears and stick it in your mouth for a while...
- brooklotzkar, on 04/19/2008, -1/+1WTF do you mean by that?
- fudged71, on 04/19/2008, -11/+1The world we live in today is outrageous. Politics should never be spoken about in the government.
- mytibt, on 04/19/2008, -11/+0Now all they have to do is stop talking about religion too and no more wars will ever be fought
- mattazoso, on 04/19/2008, -0/+1Not talking about religion isn't going to stop war, all of the disagreement is still going to be there. What needs to happen is that people need to learn to have common courtesy and respect peoples' opinions without thinking they have the right to kill those who disagree.
- MillionsLivio, on 04/19/2008, -0/+1Not talking about religion solves nothing; religion itself has to go to make any progress, and that's not happening any time soon.
- TrainingName, on 04/19/2008, -13/+2Politics are evil.
- JohnnyMarr, on 04/19/2008, -15/+7Nothing like The Onion to remind us of how ridiculous we all are...
- schmitey, on 04/19/2008, -12/+3I'm so proud of myself! I correctly guessed that it was an onion article BEFORE I clicked on it. I'm dumb and sometimes it takes me a while...
- Phoenix462, on 04/19/2008, -0/+7You know, you could just look at at the url...
- Jovensdesciple, on 04/19/2008, -22/+1Liberals should agree not to talk about politics.
- CrushThemTorg, on 04/19/2008, -11/+2How about those baseball competitions? Do people still care about that?
- Abatrour, on 04/19/2008, -16/+3Digg is so going to *****. It USED to be about NEWS. Now its all cat pictures, dupes, fake news from the onion, STUPID ***** comics, and comment trolls who go around randomly burying comments.
- Kilometers, on 04/19/2008, -1/+7Fine, leave. Have fun.
- str1fe, on 04/19/2008, -0/+1We have news too. We just also have comedy. If you don't want satire mixed in with your serious business, feel free to go to another website.
- Chalks777, on 04/20/2008, -0/+1"If you don't want satire mixed in with your internet, feel free to go to another website."
fixed.
- Chalks777, on 04/20/2008, -0/+1"If you don't want satire mixed in with your internet, feel free to go to another website."
- darny, on 04/19/2008, -3/+2I am so done with the onion. I'm not done with burying comments, though.
- DigitAl56K, on 04/19/2008, -16/+5Good! Last time we talked about politics Bush was re-elected.
- XenoSNK, on 04/19/2008, -12/+1Speaking of politicians meant that we were talking about politics? Yikes. Maybe we shouldn't talk about it anymore.
- mattazoso, on 04/19/2008, -9/+0Well great, now citizens have given up their right to stand up for what they believe in so that our politicians can just make decisions for us. We really do a good job of perpetuating the world view of Americans as lazy and selfish, too lazy to talk about the government system we are citizens of, and too selfish to look past our personal lives because the big picture doesn't involve me personally. We're doing just what they want us to do, giving up our Constitutional rights. It's sad how people refuse to talk about things because people disagree, having personal opinions is what makes life unique and worth living, so to just give up and not talk about it is playing into their hands, oh the power rush these politicians have over us, and how accepting we are, little sheep, guided by the hand, and told to shut up about things that matter and we listen. Disgusting.
- mattazoso, on 04/19/2008, -2/+0Go ahead and bury me, the truth hurts.
- Snakedal337, on 04/19/2008, -0/+11*slowly points at the URL*
- richporter, on 04/19/2008, -1/+9S-A-T-I-R-E
- mattazoso, on 04/19/2008, -2/+1Oh, whoops, lol.
Well good! I'm glad it's fake! That would've sucked!- MillionsLivio, on 04/19/2008, -0/+4It's sad it took you that long to figure it out.
- JointVenture, on 04/19/2008, -4/+2I knew this one would hurt the Hyper sensitive Obama cult.
- mattazoso, on 04/19/2008, -3/+0Well, if this was true than I would've been hurt, yes.
I was somewhat blown away by how ridiculous it was, whatever.
The sad thing is that this sort of thing isn't that far from believable.
- mattazoso, on 04/19/2008, -3/+0Well, if this was true than I would've been hurt, yes.
- PoonGnarfler, on 04/19/2008, -0/+2WHOOSH...
- justz00t, on 04/19/2008, -9/+0hallelujah! I need the sleep.
- talonstriker, on 04/19/2008, -12/+4don't bury me, i pollute the ground.
- source1984, on 04/19/2008, -2/+0buried for being a pollutant.
- joltcola, on 04/19/2008, -10/+2i smell a graveyard
- source1984, on 04/19/2008, -3/+0why, are you sweating?
- JointVenture, on 04/19/2008, -12/+1The left wing radicals and their embedded reporters who complained about the tough questions asked of Obama are going to cry cry cry about this one.
Ive concluded as most have that many have made up their minds about Obama and will never ever admit that he has done anything wrong.
The good thing is they are so angry, so hateful that they are turning off the undecideds, and the Hillary supporters who will vote for McCain because they have actually gone to the Huffington post and read some of the comments.
Thanks Obama fans, you're giving the election to McCain.
Trust me, hate like you display WILL backfire on you and if the Huffpost and supporters dont tone it down they are doomed.- skipdog172, on 04/19/2008, -2/+1Unfortunately the election is not won in the Huggington post comment section. It is won by what the mainstream media wishes to say.
- JointVenture, on 04/20/2008, -1/+2OK, you go explain that to the middle aged women who rage when they read the huffpost comments.
You know the 23% who say they will vote for McCain.
If he gets only 5% of that 23% vote he will beat Obama.
Its going to be fun watching you bleed come november.
- JointVenture, on 04/20/2008, -1/+2OK, you go explain that to the middle aged women who rage when they read the huffpost comments.
- kball75, on 04/19/2008, -1/+0Lol, why would people be mad about a hilarious fake article in the Onion? Go back to huffing glue boss.
- skipdog172, on 04/19/2008, -2/+1Unfortunately the election is not won in the Huggington post comment section. It is won by what the mainstream media wishes to say.
- Anth, on 04/19/2008, -9/+4So that explains the debate Wednesday night....
- Danktolker, on 04/19/2008, -10/+3"The president is proud that the American people have come together on such an important issue," White House press secretary Dana Perino told reporters at a briefing Tuesday. "He supports their decision wholeheartedly, and thinks U.S. citizens should focus on relaxing and having a good time in the upcoming months."
Added Perino, "We'll take care of the politics for you."
lol the onion is the only news source with the balls to break this story. - Phasmorphage, on 04/19/2008, -8/+2So how bout them Pirates?
- Elissar, on 04/19/2008, -7/+1Finally! I'm so sick of all that stuff. How 'bout that local sports team?
- smitty1e, on 04/19/2008, -6/+1When did politics (and I mean substantive dialogue about policy, not endless innuendo about tangential foibles) ever interrupt this lousy excuse for a sitcom we've been led to believe is a presidential race?
- agentlame, on 04/19/2008, -7/+2Sort by 0 or higher, it becomes a very quite room.
- JulyZerg, on 04/19/2008, -5/+13What's truly pathetic are the people who didn't even read the article (the first 20 comments, or so)...
- wynja, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1What's truly pathetic is that you can't recognize my thread as a joke, or do you truly believe that the MSM is talking about politics when they discuss lapel pins and bitter gate?
- LucasVB, on 04/19/2008, -8/+2I ***** love the Onion.
- MillionsLivio, on 04/19/2008, -3/+15It's rather funny (and sad) how the comments on this page just further prove the point.
- tidejwe, on 04/19/2008, -0/+1No kidding! I was shocked to see that as of the time of this comment being written, The first 30 comments posted above here were all in the negatives. Wow.
- mit7, on 04/20/2008, -1/+1The american dream turns into a coma...
- wynja, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1Again, my comment was a ***** joke. It stems from the Onion joke. My joke is that MSM is talking about politics when clearly they are not. If you think that bittergate and lapel pins are political issues then your as big an idiot as they come.
- Dystisis, on 04/19/2008, -8/+0Solution?
Get out on the street, destroy everything you hate about the world. Bring your friends. - FREETHINKER2008, on 04/19/2008, -8/+3The MSM needs to cover some other news besides Clinton/Obama. Every time one of them farts we need to hear about it for 3 hours.
- insanebrain, on 04/20/2008, -7/+1The GOP is getting what it wants. . dumb people who don't look at the GOP.... WAKE UP PEOPLE !!
- mit7, on 04/20/2008, -0/+5The GOV is getting what it wants.. dumb people who don't look at the URL... WAKE UP PEOPLE !!
- frigginchris, on 04/20/2008, -6/+1i wish
- PsychoBrat, on 04/20/2008, -5/+2So, now that we're allowed to talk about more important things...
What are the chances that DreamWorks won't ***** up this GitS movie? I'm worried.- agentlame, on 04/20/2008, -1/+1What the ***** are you rambling about?
- Chalks777, on 04/20/2008, -4/+1I've never wanted an onion story to be true before...
I sometimes wonder how much division in this country is caused simply by "politics" and the discussion thereof. - danarama, on 04/20/2008, -4/+1GO HABS !
- TommyHigh, on 04/20/2008, -4/+0Haha, that was mildly amusing. Even though I thought the U.S agreed on that over a hundred years ago... People 'farting' is actually not considered politics in most of the world.
- GhostyBoy, on 04/20/2008, -2/+5These comments suck.
