- SHv2, on 02/28/2008, -1/+9But not usually after 398 seconds have elapsed...
- sunkist22, on 02/28/2008, -0/+3I had it happen once. I was down to the last mine, and 2 valid choices to choose from. I picked the wrong one. It was a 50-50 shot. Oh well :)

Though, I can see why you'd be more upset if you spent 6-and-a-half minutes trying to solve minesweeper only to get to a 50/50 than if you spent a minute-and-a-half.

If you open minesweeper, hold your mouse over the window, and hit those keys and then enter (shift+enter, enter), the very top left pixel in your screen (not on the minesweeper board) will turn white if you hover over a safe space and black if theres a mine under the square your mouse is on.

- qber, on 02/28/2008, -1/+5Don't think it's so much adding as pattern recognition.
- njcarlos, on 02/28/2008, -2/+5No, it's adding. You see a pattern in minesweeper? Give me some of what you're smoking.
- qber, on 02/28/2008, -1/+4To quote collegehumor's minesweeper movie, "See a 1 by a corner? It's a mine! A 3 on a wall? They're all mines!"
The more you play, the more you learn to recognize patterns like these. Unless you're a complete minesweeper noob, you can instantly identify the tiles that are mines in these situations without any sort of counting or math.- njcarlos, on 03/06/2008, -0/+1But that isn't a pattern, it's familiarizing yourself with the actual *rules* of the game and common configurations. Seeing a pattern insinuates there is, in essence, some algorithmic approach to flagging all mines, and there isn't, because it's random; therefore there is no pattern.
- qber, on 02/28/2008, -1/+4To quote collegehumor's minesweeper movie, "See a 1 by a corner? It's a mine! A 3 on a wall? They're all mines!"

- zplot, on 02/28/2008, -2/+16I used to play Windows Minesweeper on XP all the time, and must have run into that situation dozens of times. Interestingly, every time (not joking, 100% of the time) that I came down to 2 pieces, the one I selected was the bomb. So this guy shouldn't feel bad. In order to be hard-core on Minesweeper, one has to be prepared for disappointment.
- stretch611, on 02/28/2008, -0/+2I used to play all the time too. Whenever I found a situation like this (a lucky guess position) I would guess right away. That way I did not waste my effort solving everything else only to lose on the last square.

- CCmachined, on 02/28/2008, -0/+1yeah.. we just need a Life⢠Emulator!

- pyro789x, on 02/28/2008, -0/+11If that includes your memory, you would be stuck in an infinite loop.

- IEatHamburgers, on 02/28/2008, -1/+7Way to go TacticalPenguin - your lack of [/sarcasm] tags has killed another potential Ubuntu user.

Only it's called KMines and it looks a lot better.- candafilm, on 02/28/2008, -0/+12A graphics whore on Minesweeper.
- auhnuld, on 02/28/2008, -3/+2yeah, because he'd still be compiling all the minesweeper clone dependencies, searching the internets for solutions to the dependencies that failed to compile before he could even get a clone of minesweeper to work.
- trisweb, on 02/28/2008, -0/+4Wow, that was so 1999.... get a package manager dude...

- stretch611, on 02/28/2008, -1/+1Except that the screen shot was taken after they hit the mine and the timer stopped at that point.
- patforget, on 02/28/2008, -0/+1Minesweeper is USE .............. Useless Skill Enhancer!
- turquoisefish, on 03/02/2008, -0/+1When I play minesweeper and solitaire at work I have to take phone calls occasionally - can't play while on the phone so the time is longer than I was actually concentrating on it. Same thing here maybe?

- uziko, on 02/28/2008, -1/+6Happens all the time. In fact it happens about 4 times on average every game, so you have to get lucky 4 times usually to win minesweeper on expert.
- Mihr, on 02/28/2008, -0/+1I could never win at that game. Gah... the frustration is coming back already...
- jmpeagle, on 02/28/2008, -0/+2does anyone know if you can get that game for a Mac?

- nshady, on 02/28/2008, -0/+1You flag where the mines are click on the squares where you know there aren't any. Then you just work your way around the board.

- digjam, on 02/29/2008, -0/+1Its a bitch ...do it!
- SolipsismX, on 02/28/2008, -1/+3That's actually really common.... the game should just let you win when that happens,
- russellnation, on 02/28/2008, -3/+26He deserved it, 398 is a horrible time for expert.
- Cryoniq, on 02/28/2008, -18/+1Life is not a bitch, that player must be a retard. It is obvious there be a mine at that place all around and still he picked that one. That is the definition of an idiot.
- yelnatz, on 02/28/2008, -0/+10No.
There was no indicator which blank had the mine in it. It was either that or the one above it. He chose wrong.
Idiot.
- yelnatz, on 02/28/2008, -0/+10No.
- SkinnerBox, on 02/28/2008, -1/+7I had this happen to me this week... Don't ask my why I'm playing minesweeper when I have a Wii and a PS2 right next to my computer.
- dudetaz2003, on 02/28/2008, -5/+2Why are you playing minesweeper when you have a wii and PS2 right next to your computer?
- pikpikcarrotmon, on 02/28/2008, -0/+1Dude, he said don't ask.
- heathuff23, on 02/28/2008, -0/+1I have the same setup and I know the answer because I do the same thing..the answer is we are lazy and don't have time to wait. with a game system there is a wait time which we do not want to wait for. Its just so much easier to click on an icon and have the game start immediately.
The same thing goes for DVD's...I have hundreds of them but I don't watch them because that would involve putting a disk in the DVD player and once again waiting for load time. I hate being lazy :(
- lkms, on 02/28/2008, -10/+3my current best on this computer is 119 on expert ... try more.
and yeah that happens all the time :)
but tbh this is very dumb game it can be easily solved ..
I once wanted to write a minesweeper that generates only solvable fields, but then I got bored.. as on that way I've written the auto opener that just auto-filled the bombs when the number of closed neighbours was equal to the number of bombs, which basically opened the whole field with single click, most of the times. And only rarely there were situation requiring some analyzing, and these are not tricky and solvable too btw.. then I dropped this useless program and forgot about it .. but I still play windows minesweeper to have a short break although during that I feel dirty somewhy.- Cunninlynguist, on 02/28/2008, -2/+4noone cares
- ooooo, on 02/28/2008, -10/+2its not 50/50 you can see the other one is the correct one, for the other one all the ones that were in proximity to it had all the mines uncovered
- andrew24601, on 02/28/2008, -0/+9Particularly if you take into account the mine that they clicked on ;-)
- HoboMaster, on 02/28/2008, -1/+4Yeah, I have about 15 screenshots of this exact situation. Woo.
- Rheic, on 02/28/2008, -1/+10Get a new hobby.
- sbrar83, on 02/28/2008, -0/+5an interesting experiment would be to hibernate your computer, save those files, try to sweep a spot, if you hit the bomb, reload the hibernation files and try the other spot.
- TobiasParker, on 02/28/2008, -0/+2Quantum minesweeper?
- shadowblade989, on 02/28/2008, -0/+1Or in vista, you could just save and reload.

as you can see, the idea of minesweeper is NOT to mark every mine with a flag, but to open all fields that are not mines.- Batiu-Drami, on 02/28/2008, -0/+1Um, in the video you just posted he's marking the mines.
- timlawrenz, on 02/28/2008, -0/+2Only a few. I know, there is it's own class for people how play completely without marking. but if you read the tips from people how play a lot, they recommend to mark as few as possible because it only costs time.
- Verdanic, on 02/28/2008, -0/+1Not the large clusters though. It makes sense, once you know you've passed a large pile of mines, you can just leave it be rather than marking each one.
- Ibox, on 02/28/2008, -0/+1http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CH-Kx2sl9c&NR=1 try this
