- c1511to14, on 07/05/2009, -96/+851hypocrisy; not irony.
- inactive, on 07/05/2009, -36/+524Those kids aren't old enough to understand what being gay means, let alone lifelong commitment. Some of them will probably be attracted to their own sex, as will some of their friends, and only then will the scars from indoctrination such as this begin to show. It's abhorrent behavior on their parents part to use them as pawns in this ridiculous fight. They are stoking future fires of fear, intolerance and self-loathing.
- supakoopa, on 07/05/2009, -17/+498Hypocrisy is usually ironic, as it is in this case.
- esteskid, on 07/05/2009, -58/+523religion sure does have great effect on people
- IgorUnchained, on 07/06/2009, -27/+48340 years ago they would have had those signs blown out of their hands with firehoses and would have had german shepherds attacking them. Now, they dont mind keeping a minority down and classifying them as second class citizens. ONE GENERATION and they forget that "we arent free until we're all free....we arent equal until we're all equal".
Pathetic....especially when you realize that so many black people came to vote for Obama in California and that many of these people counted the LDS Church as an ally in the prop 8 fight. Mormons LOVE black people....look it up. - GoKings, on 07/05/2009, -24/+367The funny thing is that the election of Obama actually was what helped the ban of gay marriage pass. Black people were overwhelmingly for Prop 8 (they are also overwhelmingly more religious as a percentage of their population), and there was a significantly higher turnout of African Americans in the election because they were voting for Obama.
How sad that on the same election day they turn out in droves to vote for the first African American into office, they vote to take away the rights of others. - darknecross, on 07/05/2009, -11/+291People = Hypocrites
Events/Situations = Ironic - clouds31, on 07/05/2009, -32/+251YER NAME IS TOBEH!
- ZombieSociety, on 07/06/2009, -3/+179It's HYPOCRINY.
There. We're all happy. - Axxion, on 07/06/2009, -16/+173Well its only fair that blacks have their own minorities right? Whites get Blacks and Blacks get Gays. America home of the hypocrites.
- roxgod666, on 07/05/2009, -8/+146It's hypocrisy and situational irony.
- inactive, on 07/06/2009, -9/+144i heard on 670thescore.com a couple years back an interesting argument. went something like this-
caller- "black athletes should not be dating white women"
host- "why not?"
caller- "because we don't need any grey people"
i thought it was worth a post. - kirakun, on 07/06/2009, -6/+128Heard it first from The Daily Show: Black is the new White.
- primatage, on 07/05/2009, -11/+118I think you're an idiot. Not sure though.
- Alphabet, on 07/06/2009, -16/+111What's stupid is that conservatives used the same message today as they did several decades ago to prevent interracial marriage. It's sad that some blacks don't realize that what they're doing to gays is what whites were doing to blacks 40 years ago. It's like a repeat of history again
- dedknedy, on 07/06/2009, -9/+102No. It's ironic.
HYPOCRISY is: the practice of claiming to have standards or beliefs that are contrary to one's real character...
It's not hypocrisy because these people really believe in what they are voting for.
IT'S IRONIC because you would think Africans would be for civil rights for all people.
IRONY: an outcome of events contrary to what was, or might have been, expected. - TheCash, on 07/06/2009, -2/+93Yes, but the kids holding "No on Prop 8" signs totally know what they are supporting, right?
People who turn their children into sign toting puppets to support their causes make me sick, regardless of the cause. Let the damn kids just be kids... they have a lifetime to deal with the ups and downs of the adult world, and only a few precious years to just be blissfully ignorant and happy. - mithrasinvictus, on 07/06/2009, -0/+71Even more irony: These boys probably did several school presentations on MLK.
- Kitakaze, on 07/06/2009, -3/+72@skyjis6 ("Most black people still think that being gay is a lifestyle choice.")
That argument doesn't hold much merit. There are racists who'd argue that while being black isn't a lifestyle choice, living in American, is (as opposed to "going back home where you belong," as they oft put it).
Gay marriage, the end of slavery, suffrage were never considered a civil rights issue — by those that voted on those issues... - Jaggd, on 07/06/2009, -4/+70@jdfaux24
You know what killing, stealing, and and molesting goats all have in common? They all negatively effect someone or something else. Can you tell me exactly how 2 gay guys or 2 lesbian women getting married affects you?
I'm not gay and i could really give a ***** less if they get married, it is none of my business just as it is none of yours. What i do care about is freedom, and peoples freedoms being taken away. - skyjis6, on 07/06/2009, -24/+90I hope most of diggnation understands that this situation is not as simple as it seems. Most black people still think that being gay is a lifestyle choice. Using that logic, in their minds this is not them "turning their backs" on a legitimate minority. If they view the lifestyle as deviant then they wouldn't look at it like they're voting against straight Mexicans/Chinese/Martians right to marry.
I'm NOT making excuses for them they are still wrong, but it must be pointed out that gay marriage is not being viewed as a civil liberty by those that are voting against it.
random negro digger out. - aychseven, on 07/06/2009, -4/+69@DaggerSecurity seriously? so do you wake up every morning and decide whether to be gay or straight? on your way to work, do you think to yourself, "hmmm... i think i'll be attracted to short, fat blonds today?" i don't know about you, but i don't get to choose who i'm attracted to. believe me, i would love if it were a choice. would have saved me tons of grief.
- sensor, on 07/06/2009, -11/+76Without religion they would not be protesting and they would not be trying to suppress other peoples rights.
- CanadianCheese, on 07/06/2009, -5/+70Polygamy should absolutely be ok as well. I don't get what the problem is here.
- inactive, on 07/06/2009, -1/+65Kunta Kinte!
- Fatcheeseguy, on 07/06/2009, -6/+70Still one of my favorites:

- kingnova, on 07/05/2009, -14/+74"You cant choose to be black, hispanic or a minority"
I guess you never heard of light skinned blacks trying to "pass". Look it up.
Who would choose to be gay? Who wants to be persecuted, beaten, killed, denied civil rights? - Serinus, on 07/06/2009, -5/+61You're right. Protestants shouldn't be allowed to marry.
- deff, on 07/06/2009, -4/+58Tobi with an "i", and an accent over the "i"... And a little line over the "o" so you know it's a long vowel sound and not a short one. Sometimes I like to dot the eye with a little smiley face or a heart or something... Something to brighten the readers day.
- jaredstorm, on 07/06/2009, -11/+61Ironic because whites once protested blacks civil liberties.
Now, blacks are protesting gay marriage a la civil unions.
*face palm* - xexx, on 07/06/2009, -3/+53@sharpshooterklj
Please do show me atheists picketing... anything. - jeffdrafttech, on 07/06/2009, -8/+57When did the flag become an indicator of *****? Whenever I see it, I assume some sort of distorted twisted bigoted message is soon to follow.
- ceredron, on 07/06/2009, -4/+53Individuals aside, this was one of the first things I brought up as soon as I heard about prop 8, the extreme hatred spewing from the religious community, and in particular, the black community, who seemed to have no qualms about being the voice projecting the hatred. It was just so hypocritical to me, and once I pointed it out, it was incredible how many people hadn't noticed.
It happens all the time. You don't see black rights activists fighting for the rights of asians, and you don't see the local Asian business leaders (they're ***** everywhere, but you haven't noticed) fighting for the recognition of black business owners. It's hypocrisy everywhere.
But prop 8 was just so hate-driven, hate-filled. Made me angry. :( - ralphthemagi, on 07/06/2009, -4/+53Lifelong commitment? This is the US. Marriage isn't a lifelong commitment here. Elementary school friendships last about as long as most marriages.
- powatom, on 07/06/2009, -4/+52I have no problem with polygamy.
- DaDrake, on 07/06/2009, -2/+46As a republican... I say get government out of the issue. Call everything legally a civil union and let the churches dictate what is a marriage. Half the problem is people feel that government will legislate the sacred ceremony into oblivion; and most people recognize that marriage is beneficial to children (2 parents + 2 incomes + more time to watch over the gremlins = better for children... and tax payers who don't want their ***** vandalized). And I highly doubt... really doubt... anyone will be protesting certain churches for different definitions of marriages.
Then again, I am not religious .... but I understand the reason why people want to protect marriage. - StrangeFamous, on 07/06/2009, -5/+46Are you really that ignorant? The only thing gays have to deal with is marriage inequality?

I'm sick and tired of this "Blacks had it worse than gays, so gays aren't as worthy of equal rights." *****. - NoNotReally, on 07/06/2009, -4/+44That photo has been totally taken out of context. well...
Those kids like flags. Those guys in the back supports "yes on 8". And that lady is from the future. - inactive, on 07/06/2009, -4/+43Ahh, but I'm positive he's an idiot. We don't cancel each other out, do we?
- inactive, on 07/06/2009, -3/+42As an Atheist I am tolerant of other views but I choose (See: I choose) to disagree with your views on why you should have any effect on the lives of other peoples personal choices. People you don't know and have never met yet you watch the TV show.
That is why I believe your attack on others is an affront to civil liberties and I am therefore willing to protest that over other peoples personal choices and life styles.
Everyone is ***** someone to get somewhere. Look in the mirror... - Raptor007, on 07/06/2009, -7/+45Well blest, at least your second sentence was right.
- yournightmare, on 07/06/2009, -0/+38"Atheists are the most intolerant people I have ever seen."
--Yea, they're intolerant of people trying to pass laws which require them to abide by your ***** views. - alais, on 07/06/2009, -0/+37Under 25?
- thesonofdarwin, on 07/06/2009, -1/+38As I've said repeatedly here on Digg as your type continually bring this up. As a non-Democrat liberal, I've no problem with polygamy either and it should be legalized under one condition: It is regulated so it doesn't devolve into the state of current polygamy. That of marrying the underaged and similiar abuse of those who are not developed enough to consent. Other than that, if a guy wants to marry four other guys, a woman six men, or a man more virgins than he thinks he'll get in heaven, go for it. I'm not religious and I have zero problems with polygamy and, not surprisingly, few religions do either.
- FunnyTY, on 07/06/2009, -36/+73is polygamy civil rights too? they are consenting adults loving who they want is it? Did you ever notice liberals only call it freedom when they agree with that freedom.
- isukeyo, on 07/06/2009, -0/+37A bit off topic here but, as a black American, I would like to request that we please, please stop using the term African American! It's one of the worst terms to come out of our politically correct generation. It is a term used to refer to blacks in America and it makes absolutely no sense for a number of reasons:
1. Most blacks in America were born in America! They are no more African than anyone else in this country. And not only that, most blacks in America that I've met can't even name a country in Africa, yet almost every one of them refers to themselves as African-American.
2. Not every black American that isn't born here is from an African country. Many are from the West Indies, Jamaica, England, and many other countries. Does it make sense to refer to someone born in Jamaica and immigrated to the US and African-American?
3.There are many African countries with noticeable white populations, and know several who live here in New York. I would consider them African-American since they were born and raised in African countries (South Africa, Namibia) and are in the process of immigrating to America. Yet, we don't refer to whites from African countries as African American - mainly because just looking at one, you'd never know that he/she was African!
4.If the term is the result of African descent, rather than having been born in an African country - then the term is even more meaningless since the human race is descended from the African continent.
5. Also, if the term is the result of descent, then why not Irish-American, Italian-American, English-America, etc. for all the others
Let's bury the term African-American, as well as every other stupid term born out of this socially/politically correct era! - inactive, on 07/06/2009, -1/+37I was being sarcastic.
- pyromaster114, on 07/06/2009, -3/+39Dckerjo555... shush... plz?
Seriously... the comment WAS funny. It was appreciated by any of us who have a sense of humor, and made a good point at the same time. -
