- rubixcubez, on 10/14/2008, -8/+122... Then he probably would have gotten distracted by porn and never discovered America?
- mywhitenoise, on 10/14/2008, -5/+80I thought it was pretty lame.
- rblancarte, on 10/14/2008, -0/+41Actually I was thinking more http://sadtrombone.com/
- t3hmyth, on 10/14/2008, -7/+46http://instantrimshot.com/
- inactive, on 10/14/2008, -4/+42Everyone knew the Earth was round. That's not what Columbus was setting out to prove. He was attempting to prove it was only half the size it actually is. He was dead wrong. The only reason he, and his entire crew, didn't die a horrible death at sea was because he stumbled on the New World.
In short, Columbus was a stupid stupid *****. - malex, on 10/14/2008, -1/+34ALL HEED THE VOICE OF HISTORICAL ACCURACY:
People have known about the Earth's spherical nature since the ancient Greeks. Columbus and his contemporaries did not disagree about the shape of the Earth, only its size. - inactive, on 10/14/2008, -2/+30Why does the word "Rimshot" sound dirty to me?
........I hate myself.... - sensor, on 10/14/2008, -10/+34He did not discover America.
- Mavrakk, on 10/14/2008, -3/+25In 1492 Columbus surfed the internet blue.
- MadTom, on 10/14/2008, -4/+21It should have told him to just swim across the ocean.
- Stryke, on 10/14/2008, -0/+17I've always avoided that site until now assuming I wasn't gonna like what I saw... I was afraid to press the button. :[
- inactive, on 10/15/2008, -0/+15The pixels.
- edumacator19, on 10/14/2008, -0/+14It was Eratosthenes. He wasn't dead-on, but he was pretty damn close (5-10% off). Good enough for government work.
- tbredofsin, on 10/14/2008, -1/+15a) It's a joke. You know, intended for comedic effect.
b) Discovery is not an argument between first-graders. "But I was there first!" It's about who actually convinced people it was worth coming back. Columbus may have bumbled into the accomplishment, but it was still a major breakthrough. - malex, on 10/14/2008, -0/+12Goddammit, you beat me to it.
- Paktu, on 10/14/2008, -2/+14Maybe I'm retarded, but didn't he actually depart from Portugal?
- bullsfan03, on 10/14/2008, -1/+13On an un-related note, ***** You ya *****. Especially since that is a porn site.
- conkeso, on 10/14/2008, -1/+12not that funny
- LeviTheSmith, on 10/14/2008, -7/+17I think that's a fake
- CraigKostelecky, on 10/14/2008, -0/+10It was Eratosthenes, he was Greek, and it was around 200 B.C. He was extremely accurate too, especially considering it was the first time it was ever measured.
- twertyto, on 10/14/2008, -0/+8Same here. I wanted to be the first to call Columbus a stupid stupid *****.
- greenlight2001, on 10/14/2008, -1/+9What gave it away?
- amenhotep, on 10/14/2008, -1/+7Maybe it would take him another 500 years to get familiar with the "Shortest Route" option that google has?
- inactive, on 10/14/2008, -0/+6I always thought that was a porn site or something gross like tubgirl. I've been afraid to click on it.
- inactive, on 10/14/2008, -1/+7i don't know why, but i read that with a pirate voice.
- staffa, on 10/14/2008, -2/+8The earlier Viking and Chinese discovery of America was not known to the Europeans. The new world was a complete unknown to the Europeans prior to Columbus.
Many educated people knew the world was round, very few people were educated in 1492, the vast majority believed the world was flat. This would include the majority of the crew on the ships.
When they say Christopher Columbus discovered the new world, you should read that to mean that he discovered it for the broader western culture audience. Credit for discovering something tends to go to the first person who distributes knowledge of it widely in the dominant culture of the era. Columbus discovered it for non Scandinavian Europe, from which present day America gains much of its culture legacy. And what the Scandinavians did know was not widely distributed even amongst themselves and they did very little with it. After Columbus, everything changed. - headzoo, on 10/14/2008, -0/+6If he had the internet, he would have never set sail. He'd have spent the rest of his years surfing for porn.
- bullsfan03, on 10/14/2008, -1/+7You think that's funny? Wait till you don't wake up tomorrow.
Who's laughin now? Hehe... Me. - avrygoodfrnd, on 10/14/2008, -0/+6No, actually, an ancient roman(greek? on of them) scientist who's name escapes me calculated the exact circumference of the earth over a thousand years before Columbus set sail
- TheGooseyOne, on 10/14/2008, -4/+10Dugg for the elevation of Heaven.
- t3hmyth, on 10/14/2008, -0/+5Get your minds out of the gutter!
- blitz718, on 10/14/2008, -2/+7old concept
- petebot, on 10/14/2008, -2/+7You're thinking of rimJOB.
- inactive, on 10/14/2008, -0/+5just reading that link got "you spin me right round" stuck in my head.
on a side note, i finally have a reason to report you. enjoy your ban, *****. - 1longtime, on 10/14/2008, -2/+7Why is he being buried? It's true, this information was suppressed as heresy by the church.
- t3hmyth, on 10/14/2008, -1/+6It's just a site that has a big red button, and when you press it it makes that "ba dum psh!" sound. The sound is called a "rim shot." There's nothing bad about it; if it was porn, I would have been banned a Long time ago.
- EASwanson, on 10/14/2008, -1/+5I usually expect some degree of humor from college humor but this is crap.
- inactive, on 10/14/2008, -7/+11The church didn't allow people to know that.
- twertyto, on 10/14/2008, -0/+4http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eratosthenes#Eratosth ...
- SidiousX3, on 10/14/2008, -0/+4you don't get it, it's that damn commercial. Forget what it's for, think it's for the wireless card.
- Alias1431, on 10/15/2008, -0/+3Native American porn is hot.
- Torx, on 10/14/2008, -4/+7here be dragons
- 5um1th, on 10/15/2008, -0/+3Then there would be only one kind of Indians!
- tehWyman, on 08/19/2009, -1/+4I read it, didn't laugh, and wondered why more than 900 people did.
- LegomanArt, on 10/14/2008, -0/+2Okay. That seriously wasn't funny.
- noumuon, on 10/15/2008, -0/+3actually, the "ba dum psh" sound isn't the rimshot. a rimshot is just when you hit the drum head and rim at the same time. so the snare/s are likely a rimshot. the cymbal has nothing to do with it at all.
- Atsuke, on 10/15/2008, -0/+2Where the **** is the zoom bar?
- BeardDob, on 10/14/2008, -2/+4yea ... well when the Indians stop calling themselves Indians, then I will worry about it.
- Tikisam, on 10/15/2008, -0/+2Obama :(
- CameronConnor, on 10/15/2008, -0/+2Like Columbus really went to heaven.
