Car accident on live TV watch!

- toastgodsupreme, on 12/01/2007, -150/+38lol noob drivers.
I doubt it's the intersection's fault, but rather people paying attention to reporters on the side of the road instead of what's in front of them.- vertinox, on 12/01/2007, -9/+53I dunno. That intersection could use a light or a four way stop sign.
- robdiggity, on 12/01/2007, -3/+18The intersection clearly has a stoplight.
The way that driver of the black pickup got out and just walked away... calls to mind the end of "No Country for Old Men..." - ufia, on 12/01/2007, -16/+9Stop sign is for pussies. Real men drive straight through.
- bejayel, on 12/01/2007, -5/+10When you're old enough to drive, you're going to look back on this statement and realize just how stupid you were.
- chubbstar, on 12/01/2007, -2/+13he'll think "remember all those diggers that just couldnt understand the concept of sarcasm?" and then he'll laugh out of pity.
- stewieatb, on 12/01/2007, -4/+0i hope thats sarcasm
holy ***** i hope thats sarcasm, it must be, right? right? - snowden404, on 12/01/2007, -0/+1I laughed.
- CATSCEO, on 12/02/2007, -1/+1You go ahead and do that, we don't need your genes in the gene pool anyway.

- m3t00, on 12/01/2007, -20/+5Mini-vans make people stupid. Or maybe it's stupid people that buy them? I notice them doing strange things on the road all the time.
- death2newbs, on 12/01/2007, -9/+4Yeah, I am always shocked to see how many people are straight hauling ass in a minivan. Just seems so out of character for someone who would buy one. And on long trips I always encounter at least one minivan speeding like crazy with a bunch of kids jumping around in the back. Hell, about a month ago I had one speed up behind me (I way going about 75); I let them pass and I swear to god some kid in the passenger seat no older than 10 gave me the ol' roll down the window, full arm extension middle finger salute.
- Cwo655321, on 12/02/2007, -0/+4any other pointless ***** you'd like to share with us?

- STARTSOMETHING, on 12/01/2007, -43/+4I can't stand how the reporter acts like he's worried, when he approached the cars.
- saferwaters, on 12/01/2007, -2/+20What? He interrupted a live broadcast to try to help, which is more than you'll ever do for society.
- PURPLEDRINK, on 12/01/2007, -3/+1lol
- STARTSOMETHING, on 12/02/2007, -4/+2He didn't help ***** face. He just wanted a good shot for the 6 o clock news.
- saferwaters, on 12/02/2007, -1/+1And neither did you. But thanks for bringing back memories of grade school with your name calling!
- saferwaters, on 12/01/2007, -2/+20What? He interrupted a live broadcast to try to help, which is more than you'll ever do for society.
- Jonjonr6, on 12/01/2007, -2/+12People are very easily distracted when driving. It's the reason why there's a 3 mile long bumper-to-bumper traffic jam, and when you finally get to to see the cause, the small accident is off on the side of the road, and traffic prctically disappears right at that spot. People looking at nothing important. Same reason why police cars are sideswiped while having someone pulled over for a routine traffic stop.
- mlvassallo, on 12/01/2007, -3/+6I didn't notice ANYBODY stopping at that intersection. Why is there not a 4 Way or 2 way stop there???? The city council needs to fix that. By the looks of the houses this is a lower income area but I am not familiar with Louisville or how their city government works. Something needs to be done obviously.
- ubuwalker31, on 12/01/2007, -1/+2Is it so hard to believe that there are dangerous intersections or parts of roads? It is a fact of traffic engineering that there are intersections and parts of roads where more accidents happen. It usually has nothing to do with driver distraction, but with road engineering, congestion, and failure to install proper traffic control devices.
- Drahkar, on 12/01/2007, -7/+8I'm trying to figure out why this is listed on break.com as a 'Comedy Video'. Is people getting potentially hurt in traffic accidents funny now?
- Chompy, on 12/01/2007, -4/+7When nobody actually gets hurt, yes.
- yuravian, on 12/06/2007, -0/+1An old Mel Brooks quote comes to mind: If I got a paper cut, that’s a tragedy. If you fell down an open manhole and died, that's comedy.
- noodhoog, on 12/01/2007, -2/+4I've always thought that these newfangled reporter intersections are a bad idea. I don't see why these intersections should have a reporter and camera crew permanently installed, as it mostly just distracts drivers and makes them crash... I guess city planners think they're a good idea though. Personally, I think good ol' traffic lights work better.
- vertinox, on 12/01/2007, -9/+53I dunno. That intersection could use a light or a four way stop sign.
- tange1, on 12/01/2007, -18/+101@toastgodsupreme Do you drive? There certainly is bad intersections. I don't see whats bad about this one but I'm not seeing it from the drivers perspective.
- havokzero, on 12/01/2007, -13/+106There certainly are bad intersections.
I'm going to have to fine you $220 for a class II grammar violation, sir. I need to see your English paperwork and license, please...- wafflesomd, on 12/01/2007, -54/+2Oh, and I need to beat you because your black or something.
- Djchicken, on 12/01/2007, -2/+18No, but he's going to beat you for misusing your/you're.
- lonnieh, on 12/01/2007, -12/+5taze that ass
- tange1, on 12/02/2007, -1/+4Now I certainly deserve that ticket for my grammar blunder!

- sgtbutterscotch, on 12/01/2007, -0/+7And it's easier than driving!
- UbIwerks, on 12/01/2007, -1/+1Where certainly bad intersections?
Oh, there! Thanks! :) - SupaSolly, on 12/01/2007, -4/+0What the ***** people can't see the light Green means go Red means stop.
- mark_in_bc, on 12/01/2007, -1/+4Driver was probably distracted by the camera crew, news van and reporter.
- cawpin, on 12/03/2007, -0/+1@tange1 - Yes, there are bad intersections. However, if you pay attention to what you're doing it's not hard to get through without incident. The guy in the black truck turned directly in front of the van. He is a dumbass for doing so. The intersection doesn't look to me like anything special.
- havokzero, on 12/01/2007, -13/+106There certainly are bad intersections.

- xanjamanuo, on 12/01/2007, -12/+27I wonder if either of them were talking on a cellphone...
- darkNiGHTS, on 12/01/2007, -20/+3Talking to a passenger is just as dangerous.
- chubbstar, on 12/01/2007, -1/+15hardly. the driver now has an extra pair of eyes watching the road, capable of warning the driver and knows to when to stop the distracting talking if need be. it is not even remotely the same.
- TantrooM, on 12/02/2007, -2/+7Didn't see cellphones, but the van was certainly moving like a bat out of hell for a city street. I could tell that was the one accident bound when I saw it. Way too fast.
- cawpin, on 12/03/2007, -0/+1WTF are you talking about? The van was driving normal speed it seemed to me. The dumbass in the truck turned in front of it.
- joegibes, on 12/02/2007, -4/+1IMO Talking on phones isn't inherently dangerous -- much less then having a talkative/distracting passenger.
- giveer, on 12/02/2007, -0/+3Actually, a passenger carries with it an identifiable social point - meaning, your brain is aware of your body signal's destinations - The social goal is right next to you. However, on a phone, your brain is communicating to an unclear point that is only identified through sound - which requires much more brain activity to focus on. Now, if that passenger happens to be giving you a travel blowjob, okay fine, beyond that though, cell-phone talking is multiple times more dangerous.
- xanjamanuo, on 12/04/2007, -0/+1Intelligent, astutely stated point. Thanks!!

- expatcatalyst, on 12/01/2007, -5/+59Did you see the guy in red feling his back and shaking his leg? lol ow! I feel money coming on....lol
- Jessejb, on 12/03/2007, -2/+1Hard to get money when you are in the wrong... He was obviously speeding.
- cawpin, on 12/03/2007, -1/+2The black truck turned in front of him. It was the truck's fault.
- Jessejb, on 12/03/2007, -2/+1Hard to get money when you are in the wrong... He was obviously speeding.
- psyjoniz, on 12/01/2007, -8/+51i bet the news crew played a part - as a distraction
- isolino, on 12/01/2007, -0/+8Yeah its always someone else's fault.
- djAnakin, on 12/02/2007, -0/+9Doesn't matter. Blue van was at fault, you can slearly see the driver looking at the news crew. News crew has 0% fault in this. There are distractions all over the place. You have to concentrate on driving.
- fatlip, on 12/02/2007, -0/+3you're completely correct. the task of "driving" is 99% focus.
- cawpin, on 12/03/2007, -0/+1How is the VAN at fault? The truck turned in front of it you ***** dolts.
- isolino, on 12/01/2007, -0/+8Yeah its always someone else's fault.
- sirmo, on 12/01/2007, -4/+433I like how the reporter stopped reporting puts down the mic and goes over to check on the people involved in the accident. So refreshing.
- foolonthehill, on 12/01/2007, -44/+2If you pay attention his initial reaction and how he suddenly changes his tone it seems pretty obvious there's a producer shouting in his ear "Go check on them!" probably from fear of being sued for failing to help rather than genuine compassion.
... or maybe I'm just cynical.- death2newbs, on 12/01/2007, -22/+1Naw, reporters all come off as heartless jackals to me.
- Synchro, on 12/01/2007, -0/+18At the same time he could be in a little shock. if you were standing there reporting on an accident there and one happens while you were there, you might be thinking to yourself "did that just happen?" it might take you a few seconds to get your bearings and think of what you should do. it is hard to say.
- jwaycuilis, on 12/01/2007, -0/+14Perhaps the "change in tone" is somehow related to the fact that an accident just occurred, no?
btw, nice song
- SIRBERUS, on 12/01/2007, -4/+52Something like that is probably a reporter's wet dream.
- kaichanvong, on 12/01/2007, -1/+19Totally agree with that, British reporters are totally the opposite - like when the London bombings a year ago reporters with cameras would be straight in their faces asking for a 'report'.
- orbingpunk, on 12/01/2007, -0/+57I have to say, I admire the reporter's ability to adapt and keep going, and the way he kept his cool.
- DukeMojo, on 12/01/2007, -9/+1....It's just a minor car wreck. If you can't keep your cool over that then you have mental problems.
- Cenobite, on 12/02/2007, -0/+1Then I have mental problems.
- Sawta, on 12/02/2007, -0/+2That crash was less than 200 feet away from him. I guess I have mental problems for not wanting to be around that, let alone being able to continue reporting on it.
- DukeMojo, on 12/01/2007, -9/+1....It's just a minor car wreck. If you can't keep your cool over that then you have mental problems.
- TantrooM, on 12/02/2007, -0/+11Why local news 0wns cable news. Some of the best reports I've seen on YouTube about actual things of importance were from local stations.
- foolonthehill, on 12/01/2007, -44/+2If you pay attention his initial reaction and how he suddenly changes his tone it seems pretty obvious there's a producer shouting in his ear "Go check on them!" probably from fear of being sued for failing to help rather than genuine compassion.
- alpine75, on 12/01/2007, -1/+31It's not fun living next to a dangerous intersection. I live a few blocks from one of the most unsafe ones in my city, I see accidents every day there.
- SillyDigger, on 12/01/2007, -19/+2No you don't.

- asines1, on 12/01/2007, -14/+1Every day? Riiight.
- Plepo, on 12/02/2007, -0/+1there's one right behind my house. there were accidents like every week, but since they built traffic lights, it's rarer, but I saw someone drive into a light post a few weeks back. The light fell right over. it was really bad
- orthodoxDrew, on 12/02/2007, -3/+1 yeah that's *****, everyday. wtf.
- SillyDigger, on 12/01/2007, -19/+2No you don't.
- Error601, on 12/01/2007, -5/+147Almost guarantee the guy in the van was watching the reporter and the camera.
- jeylux, on 12/01/2007, -9/+3exactly. You can't say that the accident wasn't an effect of the reporters presences.
- GhengisKhan, on 12/01/2007, -0/+22If he was then he was not paying attention to his first priority. The reporter or his station have zero culpability in this matter. Furthermore, it appeared the guy in the van was going a little fast down that street.
- Depthfunction, on 12/01/2007, -0/+28It looked to me like the blue van was speeding, or at least it was going a lot faster than the other cars that were seen driving by.
- ender30043, on 12/02/2007, -0/+3Doesn't matter; my first accident involved me turning left in front of someone that due to damage and such most likely was speeding. The police normally only give the failure to yield ticket and fault to the turning driver.
- cawpin, on 12/03/2007, -0/+1That exactly what happened here. I bet you don't turn in front of people now.
- ender30043, on 12/02/2007, -0/+3Doesn't matter; my first accident involved me turning left in front of someone that due to damage and such most likely was speeding. The police normally only give the failure to yield ticket and fault to the turning driver.
- bakatrinh, on 12/01/2007, -0/+11it doesnt matter, it's the blue van's right of way. the truck should be watching for an opening to turn and yield to oncoming traffic. in other word, the blue van don't need to stop for people turning.
- ez12a, on 12/01/2007, -0/+10Actually I think he was trying to beat a yellow light by accelerating, and the black truck was completing a left turn (because the light was turning from yellow to red). The van probably was distracted by the news crew and didnt see that the light turned red. When the camera zooms out just after the accident you can see the perpendicular intersection has a green light.
- vvaduva, on 12/01/2007, -1/+7That's not an excuse. A driver needs to pay attention to the road, not to stuff happening on the sidewalk. There could be a three ring circus on the side and it should still not cause an accident.
- Pilot85, on 12/01/2007, -11/+28boo to uncontrolled intersections. I always slow down at them because there is always a teenager blabbing on their cell, waiting in the wings to broadside you.
- kaintehdragoon, on 12/01/2007, -0/+37Gah. It's not only teenagers that talk on their cell phones and drive. I've seen plenty of adults do it too. And that's why if they're going to ban cell phones and driving for teens, might as well do it for adults too.
- 15thPD, on 12/01/2007, -8/+81True, it isn't just teenagers. It's women in general.
- UMustBeNewHere, on 12/01/2007, -5/+0I read your post twice before it completely sunk in. It made me laugh out loud. dugg
- bejayel, on 12/01/2007, -0/+12In alberta I (as a pedestrian) have almost been run over about 10 times (most of the time, on the sidewalk) and 9 of those times, it was a woman.
I also saw a woman hold an ambulance with its lights on and siren going because she was too much into doing her make up - doeboy, on 12/01/2007, -0/+5You must be from Edmonton, I see same kind of stuff on a regular basis.
- Kauzman01, on 12/02/2007, -0/+4Why was Helen Keller such a bad driver?
She was a woman.
- death2newbs, on 12/01/2007, -0/+6A lot of places are doing this. I can't say I disagree. People jabbering on the phone generally pisses me off, and when driving it seems like a real safety concern. Recently a car full of college girls wrecked in my area, killing all of them. The driver's phone record showed that she had sent and received an insane amount of text messages moments before her death. I can't remember the numbers, but it was hard to believe someone could even text that fast. I should add that the driver drove off the road and the accident didn't involve any other cars. Just a little anecdotal evidence, pretty sad though.

- monospaced, on 12/01/2007, -2/+10Teenagers are probably better at talking on their cell phones while doing other things than adults are. My mother is incapable of doing both at the same time, cell phones were invented when I was in high school and I prefer to stay off the phone while driving because I know it's distracting. But, my 16 year old cousin can do just about anything while on a cell phone, it's a part of them; these kids have used them since they could talk.
- Gullous, on 12/01/2007, -0/+6It is not uncontrolled, there is a light which becomes visible at 0:40 seconds. It appears they both were trying to make the light before it changed (as the cross street is green and a car is waiting to go), The van ran straight through and the truck making a left on the yellow.
- ScottMitchell, on 12/01/2007, -0/+2Looks like they need to install a protected left turn light at that intersection.
- cawpin, on 12/03/2007, -0/+1No, they don't. They need to increase the speed limit so dumbasses who turn in front of people die and I don't have to deal with them.
- ScottMitchell, on 12/01/2007, -0/+2Looks like they need to install a protected left turn light at that intersection.
- therealknewman, on 12/02/2007, -0/+6I logged in just to digg you down. I see more soccer moms with big ass useless ford excursions on their cell phones than anyone else. After them its the business men in the German sedans. Then its the contractors in the F350s with ***** hanging out the back about to fall into your path. Its so easy to blame teen drivers for driving conditions and I'm sick of it.
- kaintehdragoon, on 12/01/2007, -0/+37Gah. It's not only teenagers that talk on their cell phones and drive. I've seen plenty of adults do it too. And that's why if they're going to ban cell phones and driving for teens, might as well do it for adults too.
- Jhiaxuz, on 12/01/2007, -5/+16Nice to see the general public see if everyone is alright, rather than to just ignore them and keep going.
Oh wait...... - GreenAlien, on 12/01/2007, -19/+164Weird how the person in the black pickup truck rushes out and doesn't even bother to check whether the other driver is okay. Nice!
- kurtwinter, on 12/01/2007, -10/+2That's part of the problem - from what I saw - he was wrong for blocking the intersection - thinking that he had the right to block a traffic lane because he was turning. But in his mind he wants to know why he got hit. I see it all the time - 1. moron ignores traffic laws, putting their vehicle in the way of traffic, 2. they get hit, 3. they believe they are the victim.
- SteveDeGroof, on 12/01/2007, -0/+17My take on it: Pickup turned left as the light was changing. Minivan accelerated to make the light. I noticed that cross traffic has a green light by the time the camera pulled back. I wish we could see the state of the lights at the time of the collision. I'd be willing to bet both drivers ran a red.
- btgoss, on 12/01/2007, -1/+6I think your right. They are both at fault. They should have taken each other out to help prevent things like this in the future.

- ATH025, on 12/01/2007, -8/+1Probably on probation or something.
- niczar, on 12/01/2007, -1/+26You don't see where he's going, I assumed he was shocked, got out to sit down on the sidewalk or something.
- zKman, on 12/01/2007, -0/+60I guess you've never been in a car accident before. The guy was probably in shock and had to get out and walk around a little before he remembered the other driver.
- KnivesYouFag, on 12/01/2007, -15/+10You're a dumb *****, and have obviously never experienced shock. It is EXTREMELY common for people to walk away from an accident. It is just a natural reaction, while other people act like nothing happened until a few days after, or some people start bawling. What the ***** are you, 14? Stop trying to be a sensationalist *****.
- GreenAlien, on 12/03/2007, -0/+1"What the ***** are you, 14? Stop trying to be a sensationalist *****."
Ironic.
- GreenAlien, on 12/03/2007, -0/+1"What the ***** are you, 14? Stop trying to be a sensationalist *****."
- centran, on 12/01/2007, -0/+16Everyone is right about shock. I was once had two cards collide right in front of me on an expressway. When I ran over too the first car the lady was out of her car literally balled up in the fetal position bawling and crying hysterically. She couldn't even respond to my question if she was all right. She appeared to be fine but in shock so I ran over to the other car. That driver was like a deer in headlights. He just kept saying.. what do I do? what do I do? Luckily an IDOT(Illinois) Minuteman(free service) tow truck was patrolling near by and we didn't even need to call for him.
- Aristotle, on 12/01/2007, -0/+6Watch the video again. Once the truck gets hit there's smoke coming from all over the hood, and it looks like it fills the cabin too. I think the driver had smoke in his face and just needed to get out. He didn't even look around him to see if there was another car about to plow through, so you can tell he was not totally "with it."
If you were the guy in the truck, would you really go right over to the van and stand in the middle of the intersection?- Bigboomer223, on 12/02/2007, -0/+3That was his airbag.
- chiller2002, on 12/01/2007, -0/+3not only shock but the car was smoking and could have caught fire and blown up. it didn't... but if i see smoking coming from under my hood, i'm not gonna stay right by my car.
- Oomsoup, on 12/01/2007, -0/+4May have been airbag smoke, that stuff is nasty.
- Useight, on 12/01/2007, -1/+3Caught fire and blown up? Yeah, if this was a movie.
- peranadigital, on 12/02/2007, -1/+1The other driver just drove a car into him. I would be a bit more concerned about my own safety before I worried about his, you know with the smoke and life flashing before my eyes.
- cawpin, on 12/03/2007, -0/+1You mean after he turned in front of the van? Yeah, that tends to happen when you do something stupid.

- waydee, on 12/01/2007, -26/+3America needs roundabouts.
- death2newbs, on 12/01/2007, -5/+1I live in a somewhat small town in the US that actually has a number of round abouts. They are nice, but not really used here in places where high speed traffic intersects. I think the city just put them in to be unique. Really though, just putting in a traffic light should solve most of these problems. Seems like a lot of people just don't take stop signs as seriously as they should. And, of course, you have to give yourself a moment after stopping to figure out just how fast the cars are coming. In the end, it's the driver's fault for pulling out in front of someone. You can never idiot proof for all the idiot drivers. Round abouts could be good, but most cities probably fear change.
- mlvassallo, on 12/01/2007, -0/+9We have them in older areas in Austin... I can say, no we don't need roundabouts.
- iChainsaw, on 12/01/2007, -0/+2In hyde park they have them and they are ridiculous.

Looks like the pickup driver hastily turned left in front of oncoming traffic and got blocked by a white sedan that promptly took off.
These kind of assholes hit pedestrians in crosswalks they're in such a frigging hurry.- fafaforza, on 12/01/2007, -3/+2***** year. Someone with a brain in their head. There are plenty of intersections without lights or all-way signs. That doesn't make them dangerous. Rules of the road apply. Look for approaching traffic and make sure your way is clear where you'll be turning and not blocked by pedestrians or traffic. An idiot driver caused this accident, not bad engineering.

OMG blame the DOT! Blame the city! Blame the government, Blame the USA!!! Just don't blame the schmuck pulling out into oncoming traffic. - saifatlast, on 12/01/2007, -0/+1I agree that the driver in the black pickup messed up (although the blue van seemed to be going awfully fast).
That being said, if accidents happen far more at one intersection than at others, then clearly there is something different about that intersection. I don't understand why people continue to insist that it's only one or the other.

- LuCiFer6, on 12/01/2007, -1/+41The funny thing (if you want to call it funny) is that he just said the last accident was cleaned up 30 mins ago.
- STARTSOMETHING, on 12/01/2007, -5/+47It was the van's fault. He had to be speeding. he also wasn't proceeding with caution through the intersection.
- sfcaptainrob, on 12/01/2007, -1/+13Yeah, but it looks like the van had the right of way. The only way this could have happened is if the truck was making a left turn and if that's the case he should have stopped and waited for the van to go by.
- dunnduggit, on 12/01/2007, -1/+23He was definitely speeding. The other cars in this video were going half the speed of that guy.
- DeadFox1, on 12/01/2007, -4/+3he WAS speeding, but he had the green light. probably at fault for 30%.
- Zergo, on 12/01/2007, -3/+2I didn't see any lights.
- PamalaLauren, on 12/01/2007, -1/+2Well look closely. The guy in the truck made a left turn when he didn't have the clear, whether the van was speeding or not.
- Zergo, on 12/01/2007, -3/+2I didn't see any lights.
- Daiken, on 12/01/2007, -0/+4I think it's also the truck driver's fault. Notice right before the black pickup turned, another car turned left as well. But that car was clearly visible in the camera view. The black pickup truck was never seen making the turn. My guess is he was in a hurry to make the turn cause of the oncoming car and decided to go for it. He turned without going further into the intersection to see the white car in the oncoming traffic lane. He tried turning a bit early, turned into oncoming traffic and had to either slow down or stop to turn a bit to the right (notice the white car infront of the pickup after the accident). In that time, the speeding van reached the pickup and boom.
- niczar, on 12/01/2007, -2/+4The streets shown at the end of the video look quite derelict, the sidewalk is full of holes and the pavement is patchy; what is this place?

Go to 1:27 into the film (there are other locations, that is the one I choose). Look up to the top of the video. That looks like 2 traffic lights to me.(red to me)
at 0:48 there are 2 green lights.
Nub drivers.- KnivesYouFag, on 12/01/2007, -2/+4And how much driving experience do you have? 20, 30 years worth? Do tell the nubs.
- KyleGoetz, on 12/01/2007, -0/+4I used to have a nub, but then I hit puberty.
- jeffiek, on 12/01/2007, -1/+2I saw the same thing chrispix saw. There IS a traffic light. The pickup driver uses poor judgment of the oncoming auto's speed and tries to make the left hand turn. Can't tell from the video whether or not the auto was going too fast. I agree. Nub drivers.
I have almost FORTY years of driving experience. - PamalaLauren, on 12/01/2007, -1/+1Yeah it seems like many people didn't pay attention to the video all that well. It's a controlled intersection, just stupid people drive through it.
- Jessejb, on 12/03/2007, -0/+1OK well here in California if the intersection has no left turn light just a green light and you're supposed to yield to oncoming traffic...... Sorry it's hard to explain because it's called AN UNCONTROLLED INTERSECTION.
nubs? like stubs.... I don't claim to know that much but i thought it was n00b?

- loconet, on 12/01/2007, -7/+3Wouldn't be surprised if they got distracted by the camers ..
- petergerickson, on 12/01/2007, -0/+58I love when the news anchor says, we're not sure if it was the conditions of the intersection, or sometimes people are distracted by live TV being filmed. I can only imagine the shows producers and lawyers grimacing in the background.
- mrcpu, on 12/01/2007, -3/+12And at what point is a distraction an excuse for bad driving? Oh wait, this is in the states where people sue other people for their own stupidity (ie mcdonalds coffee woman)
- Synchro, on 12/01/2007, -0/+13go read the back story on the mcdonalds coffee woman. it is much more complicated than just hot coffee on crotch = sue for money. What came out later was that specific mcdonalds had been sites numerous times by the health department for coffee that was way too hot. also origianlly the lady asked them to simply pay her medical bills, nothing more. When they told her to get stuffed even after the health department reports came out, she sued and won. it was a negligence case if memory serves. But since all of this is no where near as sensational as hot coffee on crotch = sue for money, the back story was not publicized nearly as much.
- mrcpu, on 12/01/2007, -3/+12And at what point is a distraction an excuse for bad driving? Oh wait, this is in the states where people sue other people for their own stupidity (ie mcdonalds coffee woman)
- Soofi, on 12/01/2007, -6/+1I wouldn't be surprised if that driver was distracted by the camera crew standing on the corner there before plying into that pickup.
- fafaforza, on 12/01/2007, -0/+1Fine, if you wanna gawk at the newsguy for a bit, slow the hell down. What's the big rush? I'm sure there are loads of things to do in the backwaters of Louisville, but getting there late is better than not getting there at all.
- Shawn4168, on 12/01/2007, -1/+13Kudos to the news reporter for remaining professional throughout this. Most would have yelled "Oh *****!", or just stood there, going "uhh........", and/or done nothing to check on the drivers.
At least the dude in the truck's got some good solid evidence to give to his insurance company.- Synchro, on 12/01/2007, -0/+2well it depends. we cannot see from the camera what the light was. what it looked like to me is that the mini van had the right of way and the pickup was turning across traffic. the mini van did look like it was going to fast though. but the camera angle is deceiving, IMO.
- PamalaLauren, on 12/01/2007, -1/+1Well I think the guy in the Truck will be sad to know there is live evidence seeing as he's the moron that caused the accident.
- death2newbs, on 12/01/2007, -5/+0Holy crap, where did the driver of the ranger go? And the news guy was a bit late realizing he better do something, he keeps talking about the accident for a while before deciding to step in and pretend to be concerned.
- fafaforza, on 12/01/2007, -0/+1I'd like to see your reaction to that. I'm sure we'd have a dozen things to critique you on unfairly. He did fine. He summarized in 10 seconds what he was talking about, then put the mic down and went over to the van. Or you think he should have hysterically jumped into the street just to impress you with his zeal? God fobid another car gets distracted, either by the cameras or the accident, and plows him right down.
Once he gets to the car, he probably a) doesn't really know what he should do (get this, he's not trained in accident response! wow.) and b) in our lawsuit-happy society, he could easily get sued for mishandling that guy's "whiplash". - smoger, on 12/01/2007, -0/+2as soon as the accident occurs, the reporter attempts to pass the broadcast back to the anchor people so he can check to see if everyone is ok. the anchor people then continue the broadcast fixed on the live shot, probably at the decision of a producer. can't blame the reporter for that
- fafaforza, on 12/01/2007, -0/+1I'd like to see your reaction to that. I'm sure we'd have a dozen things to critique you on unfairly. He did fine. - jc7012, on 12/01/2007, -0/+36That was some very good reporting, keeping his composure, actually checking on the people in the collision, and adapting his report around the new events. props.
- Krpano, on 12/01/2007, -0/+2Agreed, very professional....thumbs up for the reporter.
- pallstanley, on 12/01/2007, -9/+0Although the operator of the van is truly responsible for his actions, the media company might be found liable for the accident, possibly. Why? Because the media lights, camera, and reporter created a point of distraction at a busy intersection known for collisions.
With that said, what are they going to do about that intersection? The commentators admitted to possible responsibility or liability by stating sometimes people are distracted by the media staff. Don't be surprised if there is a lawsuit pops up.
What a minute, true that intersection has proven over and over again the need to make it safer due to the multiple accidents, however, it might be interesting as to how an Attorney might present a strong argument or rebut.
Folks this video might be funny in the minds of some, but it is a serious problem across our nation and the insured motorist are the individuals that pay. That's right, insured motorist share in the expense as a whole. Every driver should have control of there vehicle and a high degree of alertness to surroundings at all times and of course obey the traffic laws.
Traffic laws were created for a reason, a good reason. What do you think about it? -- Pall Stanley- mrcpu, on 12/01/2007, -2/+1maybe the way to go is like they have done in some european countries and remove all the stops signs and lights and make everyone slow the f-k down and pay attention instead of expecting others to follow the rules of the road. funny thing about life, its always your OWN expectations that cause you problems and get you into trouble. If I EXPECT my wife to have dinner ready for me and it's not, I'm pissed off. If I EXPECT you are paying attention and will not turn in front of me when I have what I EXPECT to be the right of way than I get into an accident. If the road conditions are such that I can NOT expect that I have the right of way or you will not go in front of me than I will drive more cautiously.

- merlintg, on 12/01/2007, -2/+16Let me just say this -
I live about 3 blocks from where this happened. And yes, this area is the Ghetto of Louisville, KY. People down here tend to have some type of substance abuse problem - when I say people, I mean a good 80-90% of the population in this area is "unsavory", and has drug, or drinking issues in their life. Which is typical in these low-income areas.
This does happen around here all the time, however even WORSE, the Louisville Police have hit innocent people and killed them several times within a few blocks of this area!!!
Most people down here are high, or just don't give a ***** about people, or property.
And no - I don't live down here by choice, it just so happens to be affordable - I can afford my rent and high-speed internet!!!!- R3j3ct, on 12/01/2007, -1/+11Yeah, I was near this end of louisville one time and a guy hits my car in the rear quarter panel. - Cloudime, on 12/02/2007, -0/+1If you had added "/sarcasm", then that would have been a hella lot funnier.
- kilric, on 12/01/2007, -0/+12The only thing missing in that live shot was a lawyer handing out business cards.
- KyleGoetz, on 12/01/2007, -1/+2Here's the relevant provisions from the Model Rules of Professional Responsibility adopted by many states (if you break them, you may be disbarred):
"Chapter 7.3 - Direct Contact with Prospective Clients
(a)A lawyer shall not by in-person . . . contact solicit professional employment from a prospective client when a significant motive for the lawyer's doing so is the lawyer's pecuniary gain, unless the person contacted (1) is a lawyer; or (2) has a . . . close . . . relationship with the lawyer."
