- QsheiK, on 10/11/2008, -40/+601Was I the only one looking at the ref's bellies before realizing the sign?
- inactive, on 10/11/2008, -40/+125The comments section on digg used to be a place where people would exchange ideas or opinions, often the articles had a tech or news basis, but the things people had to say were usually interesting. Now the majority of front page articles are boring pictures that generate thousands of blabbering one line useless comments that even puts youtube to shame. The 'bury brigade' is the last stand of the old digg users, although it seems most have already moved elsewhere. I guess this take over by the 'average' stupid internet user is inevitable when a website reaches a certain size, but it's a shame it happened here at digg. I think it began when digg tried to appeal more to networking people and less to information, but there is obviously no way to say for sure. Luckily there are far better alternatives for real discussion and humor in the comments such as slashdot and reddit. Goodbye Digg, it was fun while it lasted.
- shaggiest, on 10/11/2008, -18/+72It's a good thing this comment is buried, otherwise everybody would know I have a tiny penis.
- identityxcrysis, on 10/11/2008, -30/+48Definitely not..thats the first thing I did too
- inactive, on 10/11/2008, -9/+21Look at this comment you made earlier in this post and read it aloud to your self. --------------------------"I never heard that period one before. So I LOL'd IRL. Then I thought the refs should hang up their ROFLskates IRL."-------------------------------------- You are a perfect example.
- Fowz, on 10/11/2008, -13/+24I totally agree with you....
- NightOwl4, on 10/12/2008, -3/+6bury the ***** out of this digg
- passedoutghost, on 10/12/2008, -3/+6I think the reason why people type the pithy comments is because they want cheap laughs and in cases like this comment section here, since people know they're comments will be buried regardless, they won't care. Until the "bury brigade" stop this immaturity, we cannot expect people to act intelligently and have their opinions heard.
- phirestyle, on 10/12/2008, -0/+3You forgot to mention how much Apple and NIN suck ass. And ***** Ubuntu too.
- JohnnyRhino, on 10/14/2008, -0/+2@zman
yep, and here is the kicker, when I saw all the idiotic comments on a fairly lame picture, I buried the whole lot of comments, but only after clicking on the "show" and reading the comment prior to burying, didnt want to bury a voice of reason..
Went to log in the next day "account invalid".
I got banned because "reported excessive burying of comments".
I reaffirmed my allegiance to the DIGG TOS and agreed to abide by same and they turned me back on.
So nothing but positive Digg ups from here on out....no more negativity from me. - limezor2, on 10/11/2008, -38/+40░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░

- inactive, on 10/12/2008, -3/+2If slashdot is your beacon of hope in a dark world then you're screwed. The only thing good on that board is Cowboy Neal.
- inactive, on 10/12/2008, -3/+1I understand what you're saying, but I disagree. The bury brigade exists because of the increase in senseless comments, as a form of self regulation. When a comment actually makes a point or creates genuine discussion it isn't buried. My example of why ending the burying won't fix the problem would be youtube. There is no bury brigade there yet you don't see intelligent discussion. If the comments were no longer buried the terrible comments would seem more acceptable. At least now there's a chance people will review what they've said.
- inactive, on 10/12/2008, -3/+1"The bury brigade" just seems like a random act of silliness on digg,no one knows why it happens it just does.passedoutghost makes a good point about people just not caring if they get buried in threads like these.you might just be over-ANALyzing the whole situation.

- Jeepy, on 10/11/2008, -8/+2The websites on the internet used to a place where people would exchange ideas or opinions, often the websites had bulletin boards or MUDs, but the things people had to say were usually interesting. Now the majority of websites are boring flash sites that generate thousands of wasted hours online, useless lolcats, and even youtube. The 'we were here first brigade' is the last stand for anti-social super nerds, although it seems most have already moved onto MMOs. I guess this take over by the 'insanely popular' stupid website is inevitable when an Internet reaches a certain level of quality, but it's a shame it happened here at eXcite. I think it began when the Internet tried to appeal to more than 50 people and less to DnD story arcs with fan fiction back stories, but this is where I try to sound less snobby. Luckily there are far better alternatives for real discussion and humor in my Magic the Gathering tournaments. +5 drama armor equipped.
