        • YoctoYotta, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2It's semantics, chill out. . . it's a kid playing guitar, which is awesome, but he's not exactly blazing new grounds, and the effect processing helps a whole lot with the consistency and overall, uh, pleasantness (?) of the sound. If he mic'd the guitar instead of going playing through a pick up and adding reverb, it would not sound anything like what you just heard, probably far less remarkable. Actually, if I didn't know better, I think he's playing through a midi-pick up, which takes everything out of guitar playing except for rhythm, picking, and general fret placement.

      Not saying this kids isn't great but Hedges is the first one to take that song and do something amazing with it. This video is testimony to that.

I'd say that talent is much more rare and special than technical ability, which can be learned by a higher % of the music playing population by brute force (practice).

In fact his playing on that video is better than on this one. He does the solo in false harmonics. If you look on his youtube page though all of these songs are arranged by other people. He just learns the arrangements. Still, he has skill. (This is all coming from a bass player. So trust me, I know what I'm talking about. Don't even think about starting a fight about bass.)
