- signal15, on 10/11/2007, -4/+91This just proves that many of the people who purchase satellite service do so because they don't want their media censored. If the FCC imposes broadcast "decency" rules for satellite, XM and Sirius are doomed.
Personally, it annoys me to no end when I listen to terrestrial radio and they censor silly things like "bitch" and "hell." I love my Sirius radio. - nimd, on 10/11/2007, -4/+68Absolutely ridiculous! Suspended for comments made on a supposedly uncensored paid service, on an explicit language channel. XM has no loalty to their customers, and clearly lied about their product. I cancelled all three of my XM subs, and I encourage others to do the same. If O&A aren't back on the air within the week, I'm writing to my state representatives, the FCC, etc., encouraging them to block the Sirius/XM merger. I also emailed all the XM executives demanding that O&A be put back on the air, and have told them my plans if they don't comply.
- 98acura, on 10/11/2007, -3/+62Canceled my two subscriptions last night, could tell they had been told to retain as many as possible, the guy asked me what it would take for me to stay after offering 1 free month and me declining.
***** XM!

- feedbackguy, on 10/11/2007, -2/+48I cancelled my subscriptions last night, XM markets their service as "uncensored" and this move shows me they are anything but.

“On-air talent must take seriously the responsibility that creative freedom requires of them.”
Freedom ::
* Exemption from External control, interference, regulation, etc.
* The absence of or release from ties, obligations
As one of your 8 million customers, it is important to me that such a decision is made understanding the absoluteness of the oxymoron it represents as well as the sheer disappointment this must mean to your subscribers.
We are not subscribers of XM radio to hear what you want us to hear.
We are not subscribers of XM radio to hear what you feel is worth saying or hearing.
We are subscribers who pay for a service to listen to what we want to listen to.
We are subscribers who will make our own decisions about what content is acceptable and what content is not.
When these choices are being made for us, we begin to question what we are paying for.
Your decision to enforce your opinions, views and ideas of what your service should be upon a program which was acquired specifically knowing that they would continue to be offensive, insensitive and shocking only shows that you are unwilling to really provide for freedom, creative or otherwise.
You are effectively acting to censor, to control, to curtail and to limit what can and cannot be done - and as such - are changing what you had originally provided for your subscribers (who have a variety of means to avoid listening to content they opt not to) into something else. Your decisions are in fact removing them of their freedom, creative or otherwise.
As such, I have called in and requested that my services were to be suspended for 30 days as I feel that since the only reason I listen and subscribe has been suspended, so should my service.
Unfortunately, I found I don't have such freedoms available to me. I guess this isn't all that surprising. Quickly paranoid of losing 3 Subscribers in One Fell Swoop, the person on the phone offered to extend my service for One Month on each of these radios to placate my frustration and keep me on your books. Unfortunately, even free stuff can't cover the cost of the freedom that has been lost. Cancel me.
It is important to me as a customer that you realize that we are here because of what you offer and that when you alter what you offer and you change what you initially provided you deeply offend and upset your customers and will provoke them to action. Perhaps after enough customers act - you will remember that you are providing a service that people are paying for because of the true creative freedoms they are finally allowed to enjoy, whether they are in-line with your corporate philosophy or not.
It's sad that I have 3 radios and years of history as a customer that are all going to waste because of a this loss of freedom. - bigben03, on 10/11/2007, -5/+48I was on hold for an hour and a half to drop my 5 subscriptions.
While no numbers are surfacing yet, it seems to be in the tens of thousands who have responded to the supposed "public outrage" only in the opposite viewpoint. All we have heard is that nobody finds this kind of humor funny. As XM how many of their subscribers have left since Opie and Anthony were suspended. That sure is a lot of people who apparently don't get that they are supposed to be outraged. - TheBarbed1, on 10/11/2007, -3/+44"Uncensored except what we don't want you to say" is NOT "uncensored." Sue XM for fraud.
- krock918316, on 10/11/2007, -6/+44Canceled my sub yesterday......
- dan0368, on 10/11/2007, -2/+36I was on hold for over a hour two times last night, only for the call to be disconnected. I finally got through this morning at 7:30 after waiting for 30 minutes (I called at 7am) and managed to cancel.
Screw XM. - CaptMonkey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+34What it would take for me to stay? How about having O&A on the radio tomorrow morning and let's forget this thing ever happened. Yeah, that would probably make me stay.
- BufordTJustice, on 10/11/2007, -17/+49...and the suckjobs at XM are saying they're "suspended" as they didn't appreciate the "severity"... RRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONnnnnnnnnnnnnnn! Shove Jimmy's tool in Hugh Panero's flapping mouth.
- Bendyhead, on 10/11/2007, -3/+35Mine (8) are currently cancelled. XM tried their hardest to keep me around. ***** them for screwing O&A. I dropped my 1k shares (I know not that many) this morning as well. ***** Hugh Panero.
- uptown, on 10/11/2007, -2/+33Who'd he take that line from?
- bmt8, on 10/11/2007, -5/+35This is total ***** *****. XM needs to pay attention to their subscribers and put O&A back on the air immediately with no strings attached. And by no strings attached, I mean they need to invite Homeless Charlie back into the studio.
Also, this is really, really funny:

I told the rep I spoke to, that exact thing. His response? Well thats obviously out of the question. - m3t00, on 10/11/2007, -0/+24I remember AOL using the long hold queue tactic for cancellations. Try the "sales" line. Much faster service.
- maehem, on 10/11/2007, -0/+23In a private or subscription based system, you get to vote with your dollars. I'm pretty sure XM is feeling the vote right about now.
- drdank, on 10/11/2007, -1/+23APPLY DIRECTLY TO CENSORSHIP!
- frodsteamin2, on 10/11/2007, -3/+24i canceled yesterday when i first heard the news, "***** it"
- Touchyourself, on 10/11/2007, -4/+24RAMONE!!!!! Cancel my subscriptions...
- NJDuder, on 10/11/2007, -7/+27I'm a staunch conservative, and I disagree with 99% of what Opie and Anthony say, but I listen regularly because they are very, very funny.
Freedom of Speech is under attack in the USA. I cancelled my XM as well. - Ellsass, on 11/05/2008, -0/+19Your comment was annoying but your link was AMAZING.
- Burgerlord, on 10/11/2007, -3/+22Dropped mine yesterday. Screw their one month of free service.
I can listen to commercial filled censored radio for free on FM.
***** XM. - dvddesign, on 10/11/2007, -1/+19@bigben
Some of those cancellations may not be in support of O&A directly, but I tell you, if I had XM, I'd cancel it in support of blocking corporate censorship.
O&A get to stand their ground on this, and for some, it's unfortunate that it's O&A that have to do this, but no one wants to touch Howard anymore, and I doubt that Karmazin would do this to Howard anyway.
So, despite me not being a O&A fan, I say ***** XM anyway. - DJNewStyle, on 10/11/2007, -2/+20"You all who cancelled are a bunch of whiny babies! A company can run their business however they want within the law."
And we can spend our money as we see fit, within the law, and a lot of us do not want to give it to XM. To call people who are speaking with their wallets "whiny babies" is stupid. If a company does something you do not agree with, or they alter their product (rendering it something you wouldn't pay for), you should stop paying that company and encourage others to do so as well. - TheCash, on 10/11/2007, -3/+19@signal15
Funny thing is, the FCC allows dj's to say 'bitch' as long as it's not done gratuitously. They can also say 'crap' but they can't say '*****,' oddly enought. Can say 'damn,' but can't say 'god damn.' It's really weird and makes no sense really.
Imus was cancelled because 'the people spoke, and the sponsors listened. Then the sponsors spoke, and the Network listened.'
I wonder what XM is going to do, now that so many subscribers are speaking?
They can't afford to lose *any* paying customers at this point, what with a new satellite to pay for and all. I didn't cancel my subscription, but I did wait on hold yesterday with customer service to voice just how pissed off I was. It was funny, they had this little 'if you're calling about O and A, please press 2 now to be transfered to an automated message service to leave your message now' or something like that. - Spuy767, on 10/11/2007, -2/+18There are definitely more 'R's in FRRRRRRRUUNKUS.
- styckx, on 10/11/2007, -3/+19Screw you XM. Cancel 3 radios yesterday. Shoved their stupid AOL tactics up their ass. CANCEL. DO NOT TAKE FREE OFFERS
- Lietmotiv, on 10/11/2007, -5/+20Cancelling my 5 radios one a time. Want to tie up the phone lines as much as possible.
- rugger, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16Yes a company can run itself however it wants, the same way a paid subscriber of the company can cancel his or her subscription because of the actions of the company. If they don't like what the company is doing the best thing they can do is vote with their wallet.
- TheBarbed1, on 10/11/2007, -6/+20Oops, double post. So FRUUUNKUS!
- BufordTJustice, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15...except that XM advertised themselves as censorship-free and made a HUGE deal out of giving O&A free reign. Oops. That's not only wrong, it's fraud. They're free to run the company as they wish. They're NOT free to sell themselves as something they quite clearly aren't.
- DConroy, on 10/11/2007, -3/+16Canceled 5 subscriptions yesterday.
- uptown, on 10/11/2007, -2/+15This is all about the XM/Sirius merger. XM has muzzled O&A because they fear their words will be used against them as the merger with Sirius works its way through the government's approval process. It would be very easy for a terrestrial-radio lobyist to encourage one of the politicians voting on the XM/Sirius merger to use the content of this show (which involved high ranking government officials) as moral justification for why the merger should not be approved. It doesn't make it right ... but the only reason they're off the air is because XM fears they may contribute to the opposition to the merger.
I've cancelled .... - crichols82, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13They just offered me 6 months free and I said no....
Would have felt dirty.... - Devrdander, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13I was on hold for an hour myself, canceled also, with distribution methods changing, satellite, digital radio, internet radio, I hope XM realizes that they cant control the content, the paying subscribers do ultimately, and its good to finally see people using their wallets to protest instead of their mouths.
- ScottyNJD, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13Don't do that... that will just make it harder for others to cancel. The only number that matters in the end is the bottom line - how many subs they lose, not how long their phones are tied up.
PS - Canceled my sub yesterday. They asked me what they could do to keep me on and I said put O & A back on the air tomorrow morning. - rudy23, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14same way tv is dead? you have your dvd player . .
- BufordTJustice, on 10/11/2007, -13/+25Howard's not going anywhere. He's more washed up than Imus... the most controversial thing he's going to do is fart on air.
- bradk50, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12I'm dropping my subscriptions, Been a subscriber since O&A started...I honestly don't see any benefit to satellite radio if they are going to censor an adult orientated channel...
Where did free speech go?
-Bradk - TripleSkeet, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12I waited for 30 minutes to cancel yesterday, then I get in my car this morning and its still on.
Looks like they will be getting another phone call this afternoon. This one will not be half as nice though. - BufordTJustice, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11Wow, now you are the definition of Choad, 'digger.
- cptnspaulding, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10***** XM, canceled my one sub and got the 3 people I referred to XM for O&A to cancel as well. Gonna enjoy my mp3 player and listen to old shows and standup.
- munkyxtc, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9I thought they'd take a bigger hit on their stock today...so far only down .3% or 3 cents/share
Guess we'll have to wait for reports on how many customers they lost due to this for it to actually be affected. - DaveXensen, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10just so you stern fanboys know...this isn't an issue on "who's funnier? ona or howard?"...its a prevent censorship issue
if the same was being done to howard, you can bet your ass id be supporting him
for the record: im an ona fan - cozb, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11I called up, ordered 10 subs just so I could cancel them!
- zakattack2006, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11cancelled my 3 this morning
dont take the credit either that still shows you as a sub - Devrdander, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9I canceled mine, and they said I was paid up till the 27th. Unless you faught for them to refund your current month you still have a week or two of service most likely.
