- shrewduser, on 10/12/2007, -4/+137then bush could get a program on comedy central where he does john stewart impersonations!
- brundlefly76, on 10/12/2007, -0/+84The problem is that both of them are smart enough to not want the job.
- cypherscout, on 10/12/2007, -7/+91Stewart - Colbert 2008!
- trunkster, on 10/12/2007, -7/+74That would be a great idea. I mean really, from anything I get from Bush is humor. Every speech is funny and telling blind people to take their sunglasses off.. classic.
- stupac2, on 10/12/2007, -5/+69I'd watch it!
- dootisterhans, on 10/12/2007, -3/+648. He has The Daily Show.
7. There would be a media frenzy.
6. He commands attention from and is adored by youth.
5. He has a fantastic ***** detector.
4. He’s not afraid to say what needs to be said.
3. He is a great debater.
2. His middle-left positions.
1. If he wins, he would be a fantastic President - jer2eydevil88, on 10/12/2007, -3/+64I'm not sure Comedy Central offers enough vacation time to its employee's for Bush.
- warmonger48, on 10/12/2007, -5/+62Stewart/Colbert for 2008, then in 2016 Colbert/Stewart....
- dearreid, on 10/12/2007, -4/+54Yeah, right. Like America would ever elect an entertainment personality to the presidency. Give us a little credit. Erm... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronald_Reagan#Hollywood
- braingilbreath, on 10/12/2007, -3/+50Sadly, he wouldn't be on the Daily Show anymore....
- akross80, on 10/12/2007, -1/+43Maybe not, but the State of the Union would be the most anticipated television event of the year, and no one would complain anymore when the president interrupts whatever show they are watching...
- ClassicJBC, on 10/12/2007, -1/+43For those who think Jon Stewart couldn't be taken seriously...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HnqWvioDY_4 - friend18, on 10/12/2007, -2/+42And scaring people with back rubs and then running away.
- lane.montgomery, on 10/12/2007, -2/+39There is already a campaign t-shirt!
http://www.bustedtees.com/shirt/stewartcolbert/male - PantherX, on 10/12/2007, -4/+41Actually, this isn't a half-bad idea. I'd vote for the guy.
- Jrr6415sun, on 10/12/2007, -6/+41too bad that guy in those pictures looks like a total douchebag.. otherwise i'd consider buying the shirt.
- Blazeix, on 10/12/2007, -3/+36He is really smart. Some of his debates are awesome.
On the lighter side, I'd make sure to watch every state of the union address! - AZTriGuy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+35Watch the trailer for the Robin Williams movie coming out, "Man of the Year". Might shed a different light on it. I love Jon Stewart, personally, but I'm not convinced that he would be a good President. It would be great to have him as a candidate for some of the reasons that dootisterhans lines out, especially not being afraid to say what needs to be said, I think it would generate some great conversations. But having him as President? There's a LOT that goes into that job, I'm not convinced he could handle it all. Of course, it would seriously depend on who he was running against. If it was against Bush (running for a third term?) and Hillary, I'd definitely vote for him.
That being said, he'd probably do a better job than W - rrobster, on 10/12/2007, -4/+31He wouldn't lower himself to it.
- uptown, on 10/12/2007, -6/+33What, you don't think Pokemon and Pikachu could handle themselves in the Senate?
- pbaehr, on 10/12/2007, -5/+29PIKACHU! VETO ATTACK!!!!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26I've had it with these ***** terrorists on this ***** plane.
- UnglueD, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24If he won, that'd forever be his moment of Zen
- bemenaker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23and the president writes his speeches.
- mrsark, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25you americans should just write them in (you can do that can't you?).
- bitcloud, on 10/12/2007, -11/+31Stewart/Colbert deal in intelligence and politics and Bush/Cheney deal in humour (oh.. and deception... death...)
I can honestly say that Stewart/Colbert are the two most politically intelligent men in the spotlight at this time. - Tijmen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19only if samuel jackson becomes secretary of transportation *
*or Attorney-General, of course. - itanshi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19well, he'd be on more often i'd say
think of the campaign comercials - borninda818, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20me to, he's a smart guy.
- music13, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17I would surely vote for the guy. Yes, he comes off as a goofball on his show. Yes, he is a comedian. However, did anyone else see the clip of him on O'Reily's show? He is an excellent debater and an incredibly intelligent person. Don't let the ignorant and uncaring persona of "The Daily Show" fool you, he is someone who would be able to manage this country far better than the crop of politicians that is currently out there.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17"we should be trying to find a viable, serious candidate who has a similar set of values and opinions and back them." There is no such thing.
Running for office is simply a popularity contest. People, in general, vote for who they've heard of or who they've been told to vote for. If they've heard of both candidates, then they simply vote for who "looks" like they'd be a better president.
It's sad but true. - wirah, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18I agree 100%.
He would be amazing - estacado, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16There's already a movie being made about it:
http://www.digg.com/movies/Jon_Stewart_for_President_the_movie
http://throwawayyourtv.com/2006/08/jon-stewart-for-president-movie.html
Lewis Black is also in the film. - pbaehr, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17Jon Stewart is an entertainer. I don't think he is interested in running for president and I don't think he would be taken seriously as a contender. Rather than support the idea of Jon Stewart for president (which I must admit is appealing to me in many ways) we should be trying to find a viable, serious candidate who has a similar set of values and opinions and back them.
- jer2eydevil88, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Yeah but he could just possibly make the rest of the world not hate us anymore...
- sroerick, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13It's called fiction. It's meant to be funny.
If you really think that Jon Stewart would be unable to take the job seriously, then you need to reconsider his intellect.
Sure, some of his speeches wouldn't be as serious, but he would still make every point he needed to make and probably drive it home even more. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14Come on AZTriGuy.
A guy whose ride to the white house involves a yellow short bus has that position now.
Stewart can handle it and would make a damn fine president. - MOJIRA, on 05/17/2008, -2/+11I'd love Stewart for president and/or Colbert for vp, but it would never happen.
Is the 18-28 demographic large enough to push him into office? Even if they/we all voted.
I dunno - can we get some statistics?
You know, if not president, I'd like to see Stewart run his own news agency.. REAL NEWS. - banderson, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Barry Levinson has a new movie coming out thats about this very idea, starring Robin Williams.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0483726/ - Protonz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9AZTriGuy you have been fooled into believing that political life is only for the elite.
- bmh129, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13Jon Stewart is a family man who cares about the world his daughter grows up in. He wouldn't run for president because it would destroy his private life, and that's the whole point!
It's nice to dream, though. - guiscard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7the t-shirts got dugg.
all the normal sizes are on back-order. - bemenaker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7That was the fault of Kerry and the Dems. You can't run on no platform. Take a ***** stand. As much as I hate Bush, he takes a stand, and tells you his position. Too bad, he isn't willing to ever second guess himself and change.
- jer2eydevil88, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8"Do you even realize what the Muslims extremists would do to us then?"
Can it be worse than blowing up two extremely important buildings in the heart of one of our major cities?
In any case a Jewish president might help break the bond between these creationist nutjobs and our education system. - spidoman, on 10/12/2007, -10/+17He'd make the perfect president! Except oh wait, we don't know anything about his stances on issues. A blog saying Jon Stewart is popular, and I like him, he should be president. This is possibly the most worthless thing I've ever seen.
I'm a big fan of Jon Stewart, but saying someone should be president without knowing their stances on anything, that's almost as stupid as what we're doing now. - MtnScott, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I'll second that.
Blogs--- not news! - blackjack75, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It's called depression.
- batmanjr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Bush will not be opposed by anyone, he isn't running next election.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Being a "digger" yourself, I'm sure that assessment is entirely accurate.
- evilTak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6"Assuming he ran as a 3rd party (or independent) his left-middle views would take votes away from the Democratic candidate and help elect the republican candidate."
This kind of reasoning is exactly why we always get Republicans and Democrats elected. Nobody really wants them, but everybody's too afraid to vote for a non-big-two candidate for the fear that they'll "take votes away" from the slighly lesser of two evils.
Have some guts and vote for an independent or third-party candidate! -
