- xTRUMANx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+30Tell me again, cause I still don't understand this bit of American law; why do women, who have done nothing to help their husbands to earn money in any way, get to request for half of all assets. Michael Jordan's wife, in my memory at least, has never assisted him in any game of NBA basketball. Anyone noticed how none of the 10 ten divorces involve men mooching off their rich wives...
- Salgat, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25See how its ALL women?
- Swishkid44, on 10/12/2007, -4/+23I get so aggravated when I hear this garbage. I don't know anything about settlements, but how rediculous is this *****?

- TheGuruStud, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Who cares about dumbass celebs? Their create nearly all of their own problems, screw them.
- geronimo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8The assets you had before marriage aren't touchable so keep that in mind. Wealth accumulated during marriage is split 50/50.
- xTRUMANx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7how about if u had 700m would losing 350m be so bad, or if u had only 10k... I'm not saying that they shouldn't receive any money at all, but come on, HALF? and also alimony?

beware guys beware - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Many men need emotional support systems outside of a shrink.
This, along with the idea that they most likely use these women a "sounding boards" for advice means that without the wife they most likely would have not made the decisions that allowed them to safely navigate to that much wealth. - Mimi42, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Why do people even care what celebrities do anyway? burried for being a horrible website. - Aroundtown27, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7While I agree with you... I see this comment string being taken in the direction of "why are the divorce laws unfair" which is a good thing as far as I can tell.
I completely agree with the comment about Jordan's wife never helping play basketball, yet she's getting around 150 million - qwerty1024, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Wow, lot's of ugly women in there

After doing all that, it seemed like you didnt really want a husband. You wanted a pet. - Zephir62, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Remind me why people binge drink again?
- oesj, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5the rationale is that the wives' earning power was reduced (either looking after kids/housewifery) and/or they should be allowed to continue with the lifestyle to which they have become accustomed.
some of these are clearly ridiculous, but i can't help but think: if i had 700m, would losing 60m be that bad? - Aliarse, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Everything I own isnt OUR's, its mine. If you dont like it, theres the door, dont let it hit you on the arse on the way out.
- rac3r5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"The Rolling Stones rocker and Texas supermodel met in 1977 and had two children together before marrying in a traditional Hindi wedding ceremony in Bali, Indonesia"
Umm.. Hindi wedding.. Hindi is a language. I think they meant Hindu wedding. The quality of mainstream journalism is going downhill... - CheapDigWannbe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"Never marry a bitch."
That's like saying never eat what will later make you vomit. - osbjmg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Agreed, you can't get married if you have that much money. I am pretty sure the only reason to get married is if the amount of time you can stay together saves enough in taxes that the 1/2 money you made while married paid out is still a better deal.
- Nodaki, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Who actually believes that a single one of these money grubbing hos worked and deserved the money that their husband made?
- stgeorge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It's really sad that a serial divorcee could marry say 5 guys over 5 years, each guy making $50k, and wipe those guys out for half their salary (off the top) and then additional money per kid they have with each guy (say 1 kid per guy = about $10k per kid). She would be collecting $175k a year and hire a single nanny take care of 5 kids, while she's out gallavanting looking for a new richer husband. The guys are screwed because they have to pay the half for LIFE and the child support until the kids are out of college. Any raise they get, half of it goes to the wife. Any bonus, half of it goes to the wife.
To top it off, even if the wife cheats on the husband, she still gets all of these benefits! The laws were designed over a hundred years ago when women were considered to be helpless property of men, now they women have equal rights, you don't see them clamoring for equal rights in divorce law. - sirpsychosexy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2the website is annoying as *****.
- xvertigox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Celebrities aren't more important than other people. Most of them are just whores.

I wanted to support him and help him achieve his dreams. Was I supposed to tell him I was too busy playing WoW when he came to me for help? I did everything I could to help my marriage and help him. That apparently makes me a bad wife in your opinion?"
No, you were supposed to support him, not do everything for him.
"The marketing flyers I created got him the interview with his current employer. "
"I alone wrote his resume, "
"wrote out the questions for him to ask during the interview"
"and talked him into taking the job."
Did he do anything for himself? You might as well have worked the job for him. It sound like (from your post) that your husband didn't want the job, or any job, for some reason. There's a line between supporting someone and trying to train them to be what you think they should be. It sounds like you tried to force him to do something he didn't want to do.
I'm not trying to say he's completely in the right. I'm just saying that from what you posted its clear that you went past "helping" and moved into "doing it for them". - chaos7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2wow

That could be because we live in a society where, on average, men make more money. And no, I'm not saying these settlements are okay. - Paroparo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Women aren't stupid enough to marry hot young studs who're only after their money?
- quickflix, on 11/30/2007, -0/+1There are some awesome, awesome almost-films on offer there. I was devastated when the Halo movie was called off, and frankly, I like to think that Crusade would have been Arnold excellence. I envy the people in the alternate universe where you can pick that movie up in a triple-pack with Predator and Total Recall.
- quickflix, on 11/30/2007, -0/+1Eeep. Wrong Digg.
I cringe at the thought of some of these divorces. Losing $150million after a divorce would sting no matter how much personal wealth you have... - HappyMax, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Why all the hostility? These guys are still rich, and can buy everything they've ever dreamed of, their lifestyles don't change a bit.

When I got married, my salary alone paid all the bills while my ex got started in his career (he could go months without a paycheck). Without my help he never could have made it and literally, he got his career because of me. The marketing flyers I created got him the interview with his current employer. I alone wrote his resume, coached him before his interview, wrote out the questions for him to ask during the interview, and talked him into taking the job. When I wasn't working at my own job I was doing his data entry and filing, entertaining his business partners, creating and maintaining his website, and because we worked for the same company, I took his required online training for him. I saved him from being fired due to a bogus lawsuit. When his work computer would die and the corporate tech support couldn't help him quickly, I was the one who would fix and reinstall everything on his computer. I also made sure that there was always a way for people to call him at all times even while vacationing in Europe and I answered emails for him. I went to his customers' homes to get signatures on documents and did his advertising. By the time I left him, his monthly commission was easily 5-10 times more than mine.
When I left him, I offered to only take 40% of the home equity, not a single penny of the retirement savings and didn't want alimony. I continued paying the mortgage for 3 months after I moved out of the house while paying my own rent on my new apartment. I only took my clothes, jewelry, computers and 1/3 of the items accumulated on vacations. I left behind a fully furnished house and bought all my current furnishings on my own. My lawyer and everyone else told me I was nuts but I was trying to make the divorce as easy on him as possible.
Even then he thought ripping him off and tried to reduce the settlement. -
